Stadium Rashed Ben Maktoum-Dubai (6000 Seats)

Teams :

1-Al Riyadi Beirut (Lebanon)
2-Sagesse Beirut (Lebanon)
3-Mouttahed Tripoli (Lebanon)
4-Smart Gilas (Phillipines)
5-Al Riyadi Aramex (Jordan)
6-Ahli Dubai (UAE)
7-UAE National Team
8-Almaty (Kazakhistan)

I don't think this edition will be a big thing for our Teams ,we can manage to have 2 Finalists easily and for sure i am talking about Sagesse and Riyadi who have an upper level and by far than all the others ,then come Mouttahed maybe Gilas and Ahli Dubai (their team based on imports) then the others !
we can see the absence of the Egyptian Teams (Maybe for Bad Situation there from politics) ,also the Iranian Teams (Don't know the reason maybe all their teams have games on this Date in their league or Unstability )

Smart Gilas will be sending an amateur team made up of collegiate players+ some PBA players for 'MEN' purpose so that the young ones dont get abused too much by other teams.
Still no Ray Parks jr. even if the team will be made up of mostly collegiate players. Ray Parks is undeniably more skilled than most of the professional players in different teams in this tournament.

so basing from that. This team is not even the best that the amateur can offer. Most of the outstanding amateurs are now in the ongoing PBA playing as rookies. It was only made decent by Douthit and maybe some mature but minimal-to-no-international-experience PBA players. The team has no experience playing together. Maybe for some players, it is their first time playing with the others on this team. And they all yet to learn the system of the coach.

Does the Lebanese teams will have no import?

Thanks for the info.
The Lebanese teams will actually bring along 3 imports since this tournament allows that ;) All 3 Lebanese teams will be very tough to defeat and will be very prepared for this tournament

Our possible lineup

Greg Slaughter 7'0
Marcus Douhtit 6'11
Ian Sangalang 6'7
KG Canaleta 6'5
Matt Ganuelas 6'5
Kevin Alas 6'2
Garvo Lanete 6'1
Kiefer Ravena 5'11

Other teams will have 3 imports but don't take our team lightly we might pull a surprise without our top players. The difference in skill-level of our amateur and professional players are not that far, expect these young players to gain experience for FIBA 2013.

If we judge our cadet pool with their performance in our secondary league. Honestly we have long ways to go if we take par this team with the training pool of elite asian teams such as China, Iran and Japan. Surely we would be overkilled.. but since Douthit would be there and some "unpolished" talent players from our pro league I hope we give a fight and were still hopeful to have 2 to 3 mainstays to beef up the team in Dubai because we really "need" it.

No one ever takes Philippines basketball lightly.... At least in Lebanon we are very aware of the level of basketball in Philippines and in particular Smart Gilas since many Lebanese teams and NT's have previously played against Smart Gilas in various competitions.

But Lebanon is still one of the toughest teams in Asia having been in the world cup 3 times 2002,2006 and 2010. the last time the pHilippines
played in the world cup is last 1978 if im not mistaken. The only problem with us is Unity in creating the best team ever.

And being able to get all your players to play for the NT... It's really a shame to see PBA teams refusing to lend their players to Smart Gilas... Country should always come before teams no matter what!

You're very correct! Although like Lebanon, basketball is also very popular here in the Philippines, I think there are some difference between the basketball climate there in Lebanon & here in the Phi. For one, Lebanese basketball fans are very very supportive about their National teams. Let's say 99.99% of Lebanese who love basketball will support their national team no matter what happens.

In the Philippines, not all Filipinos who love basketball root for our national team. Most fans of Ginebra team (the most popular ball club in the PBA) for instance don't care about the national team. They would rather see Ginebra doing well in the PBA than seeing our national team winning a medal in FIBA-Asia Men's Championship. In the Jones Cup last August for instance, not too many Filipino basketball fans followed Smart Gilas' games in that tournament. Not too many bothered to watch the games. Smart Gilas' campaign in the Jones Cup got some public attention only after they won the championship of said tournament.

Lebanon has always been a top 2 team in asia until Iran learned to play basketball. FIBA 2013 c'hips is starting to get interesting with teams like Philippines, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar, Korea, Japan and Taipei hoping to crack the top three. IMHO these teams can pretty much match up against each other and has very minimal difference in their level. China and Iran will continue to dominate as long as Hamed and Yi are playing.

If ever the Philippines unite each other maybe we can be the best again in Asia
but for now were left behind by the teams from the middle east.

Ginebra fans even rooted against the national team when Smart Gilas played in the PBA. The ginebra fans were even overjoyed when Ginebra trashed Smart Gilas in the playoffs. Repeatedly toying smart gilas by 30+ point lead. Outplaying, outsmarting and destroying smart gilas who was helpless as Douthit was also outplayed by Ginebra's 6'4 import Nate Brumfield playing as Douthit's counterpart. It was not only Ginebra fans but almost all rooted against the national team. Giving low to no respect at all to the amateur players.

The 3 Lebanese Teams Are The best for Sure in this Tourney and they are by Far better than all the others if we want to talk logically ,we can have an easy scenario of a Lebanese Final in This Tournament !
Just To Note That Sagesse Are first Now in the League with a Streak of 8W-0L ,Riyadi Come Second to their Rival with a record of 6W-2L ,Mouttahed Come 3rd with a Record of 5W-3L ,and that's in Week 8 ,still Week 9 to finish the First Leg of the league !!
Sagesse Having a Great performance Really Huge team ,Riyadi Same even if they lost to Sagesse in Ghazir and Lost to Champville Yesterday in a Big Game in Champville's Home Court (Last Year Champions) ,Mouttahed Also With Fahed and Chatfield is A big Team also who beated in the league Champville (The Champions of last year) !!

Last edited:
Rashad Anderson (196-SG/SF)(USA) Will be Riyadi 3rd Foreigner in Dubai !!

Mouttahed Tripoli (Lebanon) will only Play with 2 Foreigners !! (Eric Chatfield and Marc Salyers)

Who says Ginebra fans don't support Gilas when they faced foreign teams.. Ginebra fans in a way support Ginebra and give tough love for Smart Gilas that time as they want to see what the young gilas are made of that time..

Just not as prestigious as playing for the local league-- sums up really how great the PBA has been doing gate receipt and tv ratings-wise. As you may also know the 2 most powerful rivals in business own the 2 most powerful franchises here so no way they'd be united "just" for basketball :)

That's why we're sending a bunch of role players and college prospects. They are probably our C team if you are asking.
