Anyone things Domantas Sabonis could enter NBA soon ( ? )
On August 13, 2015, ESPN placed Domantas Sabonis 20th for 2015-16 season NCAA players ranking, describing him as one of the best, and edgiest, rebounder.I thing its just a matter of time.If he plays in the Eurobasket 2015 this year with Lithuania and is successful or wins a medal this could be a huge boost for him,and this would open many opportunities for him. Many NBA scouts are already keeping an eye on him.

Kazlauskas saying some strong words about Domantas. Paraphrasing him, "I think he's going to be another star of basketball, the way 19yo feels in the senior NT...his character, working ethics, a lot of things suggesting he'll grow as a great player. His body suits a great player, he's a quick decision maker, his basketball understanding (the image of his father at this point), his technique. He's going to be a star"

Quite a bit to hear this from Kazlauskas who is not hyping anyone without a reason.

High praise indeed. And Coach Kazlauskas is usually very sparing in his praise pre-Tournament.

:)

:o according to 2016 Mock Draft . Detroit Pistons wants Domantas Sabonis. He is actualy Compared to Luis Scola  Would you agree. I mean Luis Scola is a legend. All the info from nbadraft.net

I also don't like Scola's comparison. I would say it's Zach Randolph or Greg Monreo. Not overly athletic, but has the sense for rebounding, physical game, fundamental basketball instincts, dirty work.

Monster performance from D.Sabonis. Scores a new career high 26 points and played only 21 minutes. Also 7 rebounds and 1 block. Watched the game and I really like his energy on the court always on the move. A very promising player. I would say more promising than what Valanciunas was,Strong character type of player.

So you're saying he should be 1-4 pick? Because Valanciunas more or less lives up that draft pick. Domantas isn't such big prospect as JV was, but I would be very happy if he would become better player! He can become above average NBA player in my opinion - surely has his own advantages. I like that all 3 star bigs in JV, D-MO and Sabonis are very different.

That's quite optimistic. I think he might have a chance to be a mid-first rounder depending on the season he might have. Keep in mind that NBA rarely drafts Bigs high who don't play above the rim. I have been following him so far this season, Also they have played against an absolutely terrible team with 11 freshmen!!! Gonzaga is a regular tournament team, almost always in Top 20 so keep in mind that this blowout was expected. Especially against the teams who can't field a team and have PF/C problems (most of small schools do).

I like his energy and hard work. I think he can have a more complete game compared to JV, and be worth more to the team. I do have doubts about his real position, the height and frame are there to play C and I am sure NBA would love him at C to be athletic for that position, move well in transition etc. , but it might hurt him in terms of his other skillsets. On the other hand, he might never be a starting PF for an NBA team due to his lack of explosiveness.

Who knows this might be the season were Domantas Explodes with his performance. If he gets picked by a good NBA team that gives him minutes to play and let him improve he can become really good. Domantas is a Quick learner second season in NCAA, he probably knows more English than Lithuanian which will help him there. Thats an advantage that Valanciunas didin't have coming from Europe. I just think overall Domantas is more prepared for NBA than Valanciunas or Motiejunas when they started.

No, I don't think Domantas will be a very high pick. Probably 12-25 would make sense, but I also think he might be a steal of the draft eventually.

Sabonis scouting video of the new season (DraftExpress). Notice his defence scouting - how he's able to stay with opponents in perimeter and how he's able to play p/r D, verall positioning and help defence. Impressive. At this point both JV and D-MO were complete puppies compared to Sabonis. Liked how he's shutting down Okafor defensively who is lighting up NBA at the moment. I agree that 19yo Sabonis is so much more NBA ready than JV, D-MO was at this age.

Interesting read from Today's U Sports. Sabonis is compared to Davis and Porzingis. Here's couple of flashiest quotes. This came after his first dominant performance.

"Not that Gonzaga would ever approach 100 possessions in a game, especially with Sabonis on the court for all of them, but he is currently averaging over 60 points and 17 rebounds per 100 possessions with an offensive rating of 146.1, according to basketball-reference."

"Honestly, he may be a member of what seems to be the next evolution of basketball — which is big men like Anthony Davis, Kristaps Porzingis, etc. being able to do everything on the offensive side of the ball without there being huge flaws in their games. To be clear, I’m not saying Sabonis “is them”, but he has similar skills and size. What separates those pros from Sabonis is that they are both athletic marvels and he is merely (relatively speaking) really athletic. Oh, and Sabonis has yet to shoot a three in his career."
