Anton Ponomarev has finally come alive.

China has no post-up game, they rarely finish on drives. It seems they rely a lot on their outside shooting without Yao Ming.

Liu Wei has turned from a shoot-first PG to a PG who doesn't want to shoot. He needs to score and stop being a decoy.

China might have a harder time against teams with talented big men like Lebanon and Jordan.

Wang Shipeng is playing great so far after hitting only 2 3pt shots during the 2008 Olympics.

I don't see significant improvements by Sun Yue after 1 season with the Lakers.

Halftime Score - China 39 Kazakhstan 25

Ponomarev with an impressive performance in the first half, but too much by himself on that team. China will probably come up with an easy win Their roster is too deep, big and talented for most asian opponents, even without Yao around.

I have to say Wang Zhizhi is still in very good shape despite of his age.

Yi still doesn't play the inside the game, he's tall but he plays the 3 better.

Great no-look behind the back pass by Sun Yue to Liu Wei.

just tuned in to the game..from my perspective..China is dwarfing Kazakhstan.. :)

This 3rd quarter is China's worst quarter so far in the tournament.

Liu Wei is already 29yrs old so that might be the reason for his declining offense.

He didn't score that much also in the Olympics last year. Correct me if I'm wrong but has Liu Wei played with the Chinese national team since 2002?

It seems that all good teams are not doing very good in this tournament (except Jordan).

Iran were neck and neck with Taiwan.
Lebanon failed against Jordan.
And now China with a very unimpressive performance.

Jordan will be the winners. :p

Awful game.
Should protect the rebounds much better.
And Hu Xuefeng and Zhang Qingpeng were really bad...

I think the real level of the teams should start being considered in the second round of this tournament.

ugh was too drunk to wake up and watch this game. Too bad Hu had a bad game, he was pretty impressive against India. But from the looks of this, the game against qatar is sure going to be a nailbiter.

How Liu Wei is still on the CNT is beyond me, which shows you the quality of guards in China. He doesn't ever play defense, and when he does he fails horribly, average shooting at best. Him and WSP, several good games are good enough to keep them on the team despite a career of mediocre-ness.

I agree, the top teams are just getting warmed up. The real China, Iran and Lebanon will rise in the next round. I hope the Philippines continue to improve. If we make it to the quarters anything can happen.

At the same time, i feel either Lebanon or Jordan will beat China this year.

China led Kazakhstan by around 20 points throughout the game. That is bad? Kazakhstan is no pushover. Kazakhstan have lots of talented young men, the only thing with young players is that their performance fluctuate alot from day to day.

iam just surprised that china's coach is a local!! not that its a bad thing but
china had foreigner coachs since olympic games in athens as i remember
