Caribe Basket 2009: Caribbean Championships

BVI 67-60 Antigua

Wow. Could the BVI actually qualify for Centrobasket? It gets tougher from here.

Trinidad/Tobago 90-63 Barbados

Barbados shot 24-85 from the field.

Barbados should have brought their track+field team. They would have sprinted past everyone and scored easy shots from under the basket without any defense :)

Trinidad/Tobago 86-82 Bahamas
Antigua 70-59 Bermuda
Jamaica 96-74 Barbados

Bahamas blows a second-half lead for the second day in a row. Looks like the power in the English-speaking Caribbean has officially shifted...when is the last time T&T made it to Centrobasket?

I think, they have never done so.

How many teams qualify for the Centrobasket?

I looked it up, last time Trinidad made Centrobasket was 1989.

Top three advance.

Cuba 84-77 BVI

Trinidad & Tobago .vs. British Virgin Islands
Cuba .vs. Jamaica

Winners advances to CentroBasket and Gold Medal Game.
Losers play for the last spot in CentroBasket and the bronze medal.

I would go with T&T and Cuba here.
T&T is now on a smooth ride while the BVI may lack the firepower to compete.
Cuba needs another good showing against a rocky Jamaican team that did not convince so far.

Jamaica beats Cuba in overtime, either 98-93 or 98-95 as the live stats got a little messed up. 32 for Efejuku.

does that mean that Jamaica qualifies for Centrobasket 2010?

Yup...
and so does the British Virgin Islands :D

Cuba and Trinidad & Tobago to play for the bronze medal and last spot in Centrobasket.

British Virgin Islands :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Wow 6 Caribbean teams will play in the next centroBasket, and only 2 from Central America:(

Jamaica beats BVI 65-61 in the final.

Cuba over Trinidad/Tobago 91-77 for the third spot in Centrobasket.

Watch out for Jamaica in Centrobasket 2010. They have Chaz Carr and other players that play in NCAA I and in Europe (Rhymer). Centrobasket 2006(I guess) they almost beat Puerto Rico. This is a very dangerous team.

US Virgin Island
British Virgin Islands
Jamaica
Puerto Rico
Cuba

the Dominican Republic has not qualified as far as im informed, they'll have to host I guess, since Central America have 3 spots to be awarded in the next Cocaba Championship.

Cocaba will qualify 2 teams, the other spot would be for the host or already hold by the dominicans.

Mexico and Panama are the only competitive Central Americans anyway.
