Cape Verde basketball

The Cape Verdian basketball federation is seeking to hire a foreign coach for the national team. The federation's president is in the USA trying to hire a coach whose name wasn't revelead, but who knows very well Cape Verdian players, especially those playing in the US (like NBA's Ryan Gomes).
If this hiring fails, the most probable candidate is former NT coach Emanuel Trovoada who conquered bronze in Afrobasket 2007. The team is looking forward to repeat the deed again in Afrobasket 2009.

How does one get into international basketball scene I am a american high coach who would love to do some clinics in Africa or anywhere else
 
The new NT coach will be Cameroonian Lazare Adingono. Adingono led the Cameroon to a surprising silver medal in Afrobasket two years ago and was assistant coach at Canisius College until the beginning of April.

A very short and fast played league it seems. Seven Stars defeated Pantera Negra 61-49 in the final to claim the title.

:eek:!! The league lasted for like less than 2 weeks :D.
It's good at least they have a league and their NT has greatly developed especially due to their players abroad in the States.

Yeah, their national team could be very strong if all the players in the US would join.
 
Just being curious: do Cape Verdean players play in Portuguese clubs as national players? Because that could benefit its NT greatly
 
CPV – Afrobasket 2009 : Alex Nwora to replace Lazare Adingono as national head coach

Mr. Alex Nwora has been appointed on Saturday 04th July 2009 as Cape Verde’s national coach. He replaces Mr. Lazare Adingono who is unavailable. The newly appointed head coach met his players who are camping in Praia (Cape Verde).

Mr. Alex Nwora will have to lead the Cape Verde’s team to another podium’s spot at the Afrobasket 2009 as the team grabbed the Bronze medal at the Afrobasket 2007 played in Angola. Ahead the 25th FIBA Africa Nations Championship for men, the team will have two camps in Praia.

The first camp that already begun will end on 10th July 2009 and the second one will begin at the end of the Games of Lusophonie. A friendly game against a local team will be played on 07th July 2009 in Praia.

Cape Verde alongside with Angola will take part to the Games of Lusophonie to be played from 11th to 20th July 2009 in Centro de Rui Maior in Portugal.

Cape Verde’s team will jet out to Tripoli on 2nd August 2009.

Cape Verde as head of Group D will fight against Rwanda, Morocco and Tunisia in the preliminary round of Afrobasket 2009 in Libya.

Cipriano Cut from Poznan - Oct 22, 2009 (by Pedro Gomes)

According to team website, Cape Verdean national team players, Pedro Cipriano (206-F-83, college: Southern), Played his last game for Poznan, against Anwil Wloclawek, a total of 3 games. The Cape Verdian did not impress the coaching staff, during the two-week trial period, and the club decided not sign him with the seasonal contract.

'Along with the president and director of sports, we have decided to part ways with Pedro Cipriano. He helped us in the system, during training, but I thought that his offensive capabilities are a bit limited as a big man. He is a very good person, and I wish him all the best for further career '- explains coach Kijewski.

Basketball: Ivan Almeida leads Stonehill to victory over Adelphi in OT, 60-59

Capeverdean Sophomore guard, Ivan Almeida, ended with a game-high 16 points (13 after halftime), shooting 6-for-12 from the field while converting 3-of-4 free-throws, to go with six rebounds and four assists to lift Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll, to a 60-59 victory over Adelphi University in a key Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball matchup at the Center for Recreation & Sport.
Stonehill came away with its sixth-straight win - second one-point comeback win of the week.
Look for Almeida to have another strong performance as Stonehill (15-3, 12-1 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Le Moyne College for a key NE-10 battle in Merkert Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
