Philippine Basketball Association (oldest pro league in Asia)

there is this Kelvin dela Peña...a 6'2 PG a Filipino who grew up in Canada, he's father is a former PBA player...although he is still playing in the NCAA Phils. for Mapua Cardinals, I believe that he can make it to the PBA soon.

I don't know any Fil-Canadian in the PBA...

Former York University guard Dean Labayen use to play in a semi-pro league in the late 90's..he had an unsuccessful try-outs in one of the PBA teams here

scouts should definitely come up here in the great white north
and take a look at some filipino talents
no wait this is canada after all
thanks for the replies guys

..and also 5'3 point guard Karlo Villanueva of British Columbia U....

i've heard of karlo villaneuva he played for UBC
but i havent heard from him since

There are three canadian imports that played in the PBA.

Jim Zoet, during the 70s.
Steward Granger 1986
Anthony Simms 1990

Anthony simms, a good import and he played for the alaska team.

it will be hard for guards to play in the pba especially with the abundance of talented guards we have now...

Any more info on this guy? Google doesn't bring up to many links.

Also according to the 2009 PBA Draft wikipedia page, some guy named Andrew Catigan went undrafted. Anyone know anything about him?

There is a Filipino-Canadian who played for the Pasig Blue Pirates in the MBA, his name is John Dumont and they say he played for the Canada Junior team back then....:p:p:p:p:p

I remember reading about Labayen once. I think he played for the MBA's Pangasinan Wave.

And the 7'0 Jim Zoet was discovered to play for Mariwasa-Honda in 1979 after his stint with the Canadian national team that played in Manila for the World Basketball Championship and placed 6th overall (behind Yugoslavia, USSR, Brazil, Italy and the US in order). Zoet wasn't the first seven-footer caucasian though that played in the PBA. In the 1977 Open Conference, 7/UP paraded the 7'0 Steve Stroud alongside the 6'7 Chris MacMurray (who then played for the Crispa Redmanizers in the 3rd Conference of the same season).

A footnote: Toyota once beat the Canadian national team (led by the eminent Leo Rautins and Jay Triano) in an exhibition game held at the Big Dome in 1978, a week or two before the World Basketball Championship. That same Toyota team likewise demolished the eventual world champions, the Yugoslavian national team (featuring Drazen Dalipagic, Dragen Kikanovic, Kresimir Cosic, Slavnic, Delibasic, Radovanovic) in their other exhibition game. Crispa wasn't as lucky though, losing to both teams. Toyota was allowed to suit up their twin imports, Carlos Terry and Bruce "Sky" King in those exhibition matches.
