In the NBA? In Turkey that definitely wasn't the case. If you look at play-by-play, only 2 of his 23 assists in this tournament created a Durant field goal.

But I don't quite see the relevance regarding USA minus Durant being -14 in 43 minutes against those six teams either.

There's no statistic that tells the whole story. But comparing the stats with what I saw, I'd say it's both going into the same direction.

I'm talking about graphs like this. They tell a far better story than what you provided.

I mean, let's hear what you have to say? What does the graph you posted mean?

Hypothetical- who would you choose to win in a 7 game series- the U.S. team from this year or the below team?:

PG Rajon Rondo , Aaron Brooks
SG Brandon Roy , Tyreke Evans , Ray Allen
SF Joe Johnson , Paul Pierce , Josh Smith
PF David Lee , Al Jefferson
C Tim Duncan , Amare Stoudemire

This would be our 'B' team IMO. Given the same practice time, preparation games, etc. I believe this team would beat the team we sent this year. And wouldn't that make our team from this year a 'C' team? Or no?

That frontcourt will score anytime they want against them. 2010 team was more of perimeter oriented team feauturing Durant. You put a guy like Josh Smith on him, he will work harder for his shots just like when Artest guarded him. In a 7 game series, this team will beat that Durant team in 5 or 6.

I guess I'll just quit on the whole arguement.

Obviously I imagine team chemistry, set plays and role players a bit differently and my aspects on the game are just too different.

*shrug*

I guess? Because when I made my Team B lineup a few pages back, I took player attitudes into account. You don't have any alpha male superstars on that squad.

I am with you that I would love to see better half court sets, more motion in offense and to develop more chemistry on the U.S. team. I love that kind of basketball.

Coach K had a good, related, quote the other day about how he and his staff approach preparing the U.S. players for tournaments now:

What you want to do is put enough in that doesn't make them non-instinctive," he says. "We put in enough and allow some slippage, where it's not completely right, just so that we don't become basically anal in making something perfect. And hopefully attitude and speed can make up for it. It's just very unusual and it's unlike the other [international] teams, because they have that continuity [of returning players]."

So, because of the limitations of the U.S. system right now (high turnover between tournaments, very little preparation time before tournaments, etc.) they are trying to teach the team some half court sets, etc. but they aren't attempting to teach them an entire offense because that would make them less instinctive.

It would be nice to see a U.S. team move the ball more in the half court but that would probably necessitate the team being set and able to play together for a few months prior to any Olympics / W.C. which probably won't happen. I foresee the turnover still being an issue for the U.S. in the future.

Let's cross out Chris Kaman, he played for the German NT already. Please insert Gordon Hayward on the wings and add Cole Aldrich. This team can not win even the bronze though.

I know them. Good luck calculating five man units manually.

I mean, let's hear what you have to say? What does the graph you posted mean?
That USA was -14 in 43 minutes vs. Russia, Slovenia, Croatia, Brazil, Turkey, Lithuania with Durant off the floor. Outscored by four of those six opponents while Durant was off the court. +108 in 197 minutes with him oncourt. Very simple statement.

But in the end, it's almost unnecessary to go through the troubles of calculating +/-. In every tight or more important game (Coach K obviously considered the friendly in Madrid as such), Durant played almost the full 40 minutes: 38 vs. Spain (friendly), 39 vs. Brazil, 37 vs. Russia, 38 vs. Lithuania, 39 vs. Turkey. Probably because K thought they could win those games without him, right?

Nice how you're posting false facts (Westbrook) by the way, then fail to respond once they've been identified as such.

1. Once again, I was curious as to which five man sets are the best.

Ah...so you were trying to imply that the US couldn't win those games without Durant? OK...

2. I was using their NBA stats. Hence why I said, "They built up a great chemistry together." They play on the same team in the NBA. Curious as to how they played together on court in FIBA.

Team USA will always rely on their speed and athleticism. I don't think Coach Mike K will include them on the roster. Lol.

I haven't been following this thread and don't care what you guys are arguing about, but please please please tell me you don't actually think this is a meaningful statistic.
