Brooklyn Nets

Nets sign Bojan Bogdanovic to a two year deal and the third year as an option. It is also reported that the Nets are now looking to unload Marcus Thornton via trade.

Brooklyn Nets receives Jarrett Jack from the Cavaliers and then trades Marcus Thornton to the Celtics.

Despite Lionel Hollins not coaching last night, Nets did run their flex offense with post continuity pegged at Brook Lopez, who looked aggressive and primed to score each time he was fed the ball. Problem was even when the double team is coming, Lopez would force a shot; hoping a foul call will bail him out. In a flex where 4 out is unfolding to either free up the low block or get to the weak sides, Lopez must learn to pass and not be fixated in scoring an easy one.

Mirza Teletovic seems to be coming along well, setting screens and quickly establishing a chaff block; primed for shooting. He put the finishing touches against Sacramento last night, first with a three pointer with 59 ticks left and that go ahead jumper; much to the delight of Paul Westphal. Bogdanovic got a massive amount of playing time and showcased some accuracy, but when a defender hones in, he is quite hesitant to take a two step dribble for a pass; often holding on and letting the defense sway him into ball protection.

Plumlee looked hyped as he was active on setting screens, but the zeal is not always fruitful as his screens aren't timed quite right, often setting up while the ball handler was still several feet away. Plumlee also tried to dribble attack, which is quite odd given the flex. His role was to be an active screener and dive for the hoop if he gets a clear cut for an entry pass.

Deron Williams and Lionel Hollins have a lot of work to do with this flex offense; there were instances where the ball was continuously being thrown back out, instead of the open wing or the cutter.

Spacing was effective with Lionell Hollins in tow with two bigs; similar to the hybrid flex and horns set he ran with the Memphis Grizzlies.

What a game for Mirza Teletovic. 26pts + 15 rebs in counting as the Nets are holding on to a 95-93 lead with 15 secs remaining against the Spurs.

According to reports, Nets are open to trade Deron Williams, Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson.

Plumlee is doing great under Hollins' flex. Plumlee is very active on setting screens and immediately running back or fronting for a shot depending on how the defense reacts and how the ball carrier uses the screen. Brook Lopez no longer has the legs to make this flex work as he is more of a post operator.

Deron Williams will miss games due to a fractured rib. Luckily, Jarret Jack can run this team.

Nets are denying it but there's a report out that Prokhorov is looking to sell the Nets. Say what you want about his decision making but you have to admit his ownership makes the Nets a global brand, especially in Russia.

I like their willingness to spend and build a contender. Acquiring Deron Williams and Joe Johnson then. Offering a max contract with Brook Lopez and trading for future HOFS in KG and Paul Pierce. But an NBA high salary could not just do justice as they fall to much more seasoned teams.

Maybe the Nets are due for a fire sale soon, including the roster.

I guarantee you the trade for Pierce was Billy King. That move made no sense whatsoever. They were building a team with an identity and with some stars and they trade for a player who every team he goes to it's all about him with the exception of the Wizards. They mortgaged their future on that trade, too.

Funny you should mention that, as I saw on hoopshype that apparently the Heat are after Brook Lopez. I actually like that move. Hassan Whiteside is a shot-blocking force, and Brook Lopez pretty much does nothing but score in the post. They complement each other perfectly.

I heard about a rumor that the Nets are also talking to OKC and Charlotte about a trade. For Brooklyn, the centerpiece will be Lopez getting shipped to OKC while Hornets will send Lance Stephenson to Brooklyn.

Interesting. I thought Charlotte was the one who wanted Lopez, didn't even know OKC was a part of the trade.

I think this would be perfect. Lance would fit perfectly with Brooklyn, and Charlotte needs to get rid of him because he's not the right fit. I think adding Joe Johnson to Charlotte would make a lot of sense as they need a legitimate top-tier shooting guard and PJ is not that yet. I wonder who OKC would give up or if it would just be draft picks?

Agreed. Too bad it did not work out with Lance Stephenson in Charlotte. Outside his past and if he really puts his mind to it, Stephenson can thrive in Brooklyn as indicators point out that the Nets are willing to dislodge guys like Deron, Joe Johnson and KG.

Yeah, honestly the Charlotte thing confounded me. Maybe if they played him as a point-forward at the 3 it would have worked, but he was never going to be their starting 2 guard. He's a lot like Tyreke (which makes sense because they're both around 6'5 or 6'6 and grew up playing playground ball and are tough and know how to score and distribute but not great shooters) where you have to let him play his game and surround him with guys who can play off the ball and a pass-first point guard. If Brooklyn uses him right, he could be one of the best players in the league and their franchise player. This would probably free up minutes for Jerome Jordan, too, who can block shots any time he's on the court.

Brook Lopez looks healthy tonight and has an extra step thanks to our dis-coordinated defense out of the team's flex offense. Good outing for both Lopez in getting his confidence back and the Nets showcasing him for a trade.

It seems that the trade died down a couple of days ago. I thought it would went down and Lance would get another fresh start. With the current state of Charlotte, they are getting some wins prior to the all-star break.

Yeah, not really sure what's going on with that. Sometimes these executives can't seem to just make the right move and out-think themselves.

Mirza Teletovic is out for the season with multiple blood clots in his lungs. You have to feel for the kid. That's an awful thing to have happen, and if he has to give up basketball then that's going to be a huge blow to his life, especially after coming over so late and yet having the kind of success he's already had. He seemed like a guy who could have a 10 year career in the league.
