Best Turkish player performances of the week thread.

Finally the Turkish NT has a 2,5 level scorer who can additionally defend and has an amazing verticality. He will give an extra depth to the roster. His shot selection can be sometimes very wild but these last 3 games gave him good experience. Every playoff game in Europe is a bless for him and for the Turkish NT.

Now the NT just needs a four who can defend and stretch the floor and we have tons of guys who are on the verge of making the next step.

Play making is still the biggest problem of the NT but with Larkin we could go around it. Sipahi with his rock solid defense can take the role from the bench.

Its still a very young team lacks abilities here and there but this is really the deepest roster what we have since 2010.

OK regular season conclusions...

BSL:

Turkish 5 of the season.

Dogus Özdemiroglu
Onuralp Bitim
Egehan Arna
Ercan Osmani
Sadik Emir Kabaca

MVP (among Turks) Onuralp Bitim

The rising star of the Turkish BSL: Kerem Kuthan Konan (2004)
Most astonishing performance of the season: Yagiz Aksu (2006)

Sadik Emir Kabaca: the almost 2001 born Power forward who played on the center position due to his 6'10 length with solid frame had his ups and downs during the season. Though there has been a certain development in his game since Pistolis became GS coach. Despite having every tool you can imagine for a great big with huge potential Kabaca couldnt read games very well, slept on off ball defenses etc. and was a mistake prone. He still is but his understanding is developing from game to game. I think Pistolis is bringing him on the next level. Should have his break out next season. Amazing speed with solid wingspan and solid outside shot.

Ercan Osmani: Again a 6'11 forward with shot and length. Makes unnecessarily stupid mistakes from time to time and is an injury prone but also a great talent who can play on both ends on the floor. Could leave Besiktas and try playing in the Euroleague.

Egehan Arna: after having a very disappointing season last year he stepped up big time and showed his potential again he was showing during his youth years. Great shooter who can create a bit for himself. He can put the ball on the floor, has a solid size with his 6'8 and contributes well grabbing rebounds. He is really helpful if it comes to spacing. Truly one option for the NT. Dont give him high chances but you never know.

Onuralp Bitim: unexpected rise here too. After Freemans departure he got unleashed and finished the season with 15 points. He needs to polish his game further but has truly talent for being a very good two way Euroleague player.

For next season I expect Kabaca and Kerem Kuthan Konan to have their break outs in Turkey. Expect Mert Akay to return strong to Turkey.

The situation of Samet Yigitoglu and Demir Dogan in Macedonia is unclear. Worth to follow is 2002 born David Mutaf for Gran Canaria. The NT will have great shooting guard options after his development. A three level scorer with weak defense and Yiğit Hamza Mestoğlu who is ready for the next step in Spain.

Onuralpas Bitimas decided to stay in Bursa. First of all even if Bursa loses the final against Virtus there is a high chance that Bursa gets the invitation of Euroleague since Frutti Extra the sponsor of Bursa is also sponsor of Euroleague.

Onuralp Bitim needs to establish himself at this level and must get a bigger role next season. Thats the only reasonable reason for staying in Bursa. He showed that he fill the role as a finisher and the next step would be a scorer who can create his shot. He needs to polish his game even more and must be the first or in the worst case the second option of his team.

I love how his coach talks about him and Turkish players in general. They are expected to not to touch the ball except for shooting or in defense, they are given 0 initiative and are taken out of the game with their first mistake and then we talk about why we don't have any guy who can take initiative in the national team. Alimpijevic is literally the first coach I've heard saying this and also actually putting his words to use. He helped Onuralp develop so much

I dont know if it was Alimpijevic or not. He gave him a bigger role for sure but the boost came after Freemans transfer to CSKA. If you get the chance you must grab the opportunity so it was a good season and he is also a very very needed profile. We need a scorer who can create his shot and defend at the same time. Lets hope Bursa gets the spot for Euroleague. Without Russian teams there will be 3 spots open and considering Virtus winning it on Wednesday there is a big chance we get the spot beside Partizan and Valencia.

Another very contributing coach in terms of using Turkish players was the Slovenian Coach Saso Filipovski in Bandirma.

Expectedly Efes won the first playoff game against Karsiyaka with ease. Yigitcan Saybir looked very strong. He finally reached the body for playing in the Euroleague. Liked his defense a lot but the kid must find ways to score. Playing off ball most of the time is good but not enough.

Ömercan screams "I am talented" in every single move but he also screams "i am lazy as hell". Again a wasted talent.

Very good minutes of 2001 born play maker Ömercan Ilyasoglu also known as Ömercan, the magician. Ataman changed him in the last 5 minutes for Larkin and lost. I wished he would have let him play. Ömercan is one play maker prospect with one of the most amazing court visions and passing skills in whole Europe but he normally lacked effort in defense and offense. After Bitims breakout it would be insane if this happens with Ilyasoglu too.

What a game of Onuralp Bitim against Fenerbahce. He single-handedly killed FB by himself. Very good spot up shooter with range but uses too many difficult shots. They got in today 6/9 from three with 22 points 9 rebounds 3 assists and 2 steals. Isnt polished enough for Euroleague now but can be used in various ways. Great rebounder for his positions, has a good feeling, lob target, unstoppable in transition, very strong finisher around the rim, good positioning.

I think with Sengün and Larkin we are able to run many lob offenses. He will give the Turkish NT a whole new dimension on both ends.

Onuralpas Bitimas averaged 20 points against Fenerbahce a team with a very solid defense. I really buy his open shots, they are now more than reliable but he must create his shots more efficiently. This is his next step and yes this series proved that he can take a serious role in Euroleague and can give more than Sehmus Hazer gives right now.

His BBIQ is growing too. He sees much more, really not a comparison to the past. He really ate Mahmutoglu, Biberovic and Guduric alive (Guduric from time to time). All three are bad defenders btw.

If Sadik Emir Kabaca makes those crucial threes and does a solid defense like this there is nothing to fear for Eurobasket. You mustnt let him play with the ball but he is working well as a finisher and a defender.

So i watched Sadik Emir Kabaca in the last 3 games closely against Efes and I want to write down what I saw in those games. First of all he has all the tools to be a great 4. Long arms, fast legs and he plays with lot of contact on the defensive end. His long arms help him to defend the perimeter very much. The distance between hand and the ball is very good when he is able to anticipate the shot in time. Sometimes his reaction could be late especially if hes not focussed. On low post he is not bad at taking the correct position, sometimes again, very rare he gives his opponent the wrong ankle but he contests the ball solidly and plays with contact.

Reading the correct defensive game is often a problem but if he reads the situation well he is able to make spectacular chase down blocks. He is definitely able to follow wings

Offensively, his shot is his first reliable option but he is also able to create his shot in the low post by using his good footwork. Getting the good position is one of his other strength. His touch around the rim is also good. Reading games offensively is easier for him for sure.

One thing you shouldnt let him do is playing with the ball, he mostly uses the ball when he starts dribbling but on the defensive end and as a stretch four he is able to give good 15 minutes for the NT. I am sure Ataman is impressed as well.

Onuralp Bitim with 34 points and 6 rebounds against FMP. Unbelievable we put Mahmutoglu over him...

Onuralp Bitim with 31 points against Merkezefendi. He is our first guy in a Turkish team who is the first scoring option since idk when. I am not sure where to put him tbh. He is not as efficient as he should be but its a matter of experience and time. He is a guy with pure scoring instincts and he needs to get in rhythm but he causes too many TOs for higher levels.

Besides solid defense at least for his position he is also a great rebounder for his position.

He is on a different level now. Better than even last season. Easily the MVP of first month. He justified the role that is assigned to him.

He is my favorite player since the first time I saw him playing in Efes youth setup. I always put him before the likes of Osman, Korkmaz and etc. He improved his mental status on floor, reduced his temper and now leading a very successful team, thanks to coach Alimpijevic.

I am not sure if he can manage to control his excessive number of turnovers, but if he does, there will be no serious deficiency that withholds him from being a serious player at highest level.

Speaking for today's game his teammates wasted at least 5 assists of him. Keeping his composure and finding the right play is this season's bonus for him. Most of his turnovers owing to getting into traffic overmuch. I see his terms with ball has been improved aswell.

He increased his market value a lot. I expect him to sign a German Euroleague team next season.

Bitim is our best player in this moment, I always put him as our main guy for future.

I like everything about him, he is not pussy player, he has good shooting technics, character and physics. He is already way better then Korkmaz and Cedi

Just idiot can put Melih over him, and we saw that month ago.

Him and Saybir will be very important for next window. With Osmani and Kabaca , we need just one decent pg to be at least contender in games to go.

In terms of offensive talent he is not better than Korkmaz but he can be a better player in some years premised he makes correct decisions. Considering the offensive and defensive impact we could discuss.

Every of them have their usage. Osman as well as Korkmaz are valuable pieces but both of them fill the wrong roles. Bitim is important because he can play on both ends and is learning to lead a team and finish games. Thats what we are lacking atm.

He is definitely growing as a player but the level between EL and Eurocup is really big but he must try out the highest level somewhere but going into traffic like he does in games wont help at all. We need at least a guy with the mentality and role like Grigonis. Its not possible in Turkey but smaller budget EL-teams are not used to give Turkish guys such roles. He must earn it.

He increased his market value a lot. I expect him to sign a German Euroleague team next season.

Another maybe the best option would be that he reaches Euroleague with Bursaspor and Alimpijevic. Showing what he can on EL level in a known surrounding and with a role he is used to would be the best option. If not a German team or Zalgiris etc. would be great.
