Who are the top 5 countries not participating in the 2010 World Championships?
 
Israel, great team supported by fanatic crowds, should be in Turkey;
Italy, powerhouse in basketball;
Great Britain, good things from basketball in the island of football;
Montenegro, another big nation in basketball, coming from ex-Yugo;
Dominican Republic, deserved a wild card instead of Germany.
 
In no particular order

Dominican Republic: Injury and upset away from being here.

Montenegro: Considering how old the national team is they've done some amazing things, I'll be shocked if they aren't here in 2014.

FYR of Macedonia: Finished higher than Germany or Lithuania in Eurobasket, and look like they'll qualify for 2011.

Great Britain: Sure their nation might not care, but they're playing great bball this summer, they went 0-3 at Eurobasket, but that's against Spain, Serbia, and Slovenia, while almost beating Spain!

Israel: Kind of here by default, since I tried to type Belgium but my fingers wouldn't let me, then I tried to type Italy but I burst out laughing. Really the best of the rest imo.

Then the World Cup has a really good coverage if these are the best teams out.

They have good players but maybe bad teamplay. Gortat Lampe Logan are some medium good players are better than germany (without drik & kaman) new zeland, iran, el libano, micheal Jordan team and china

Italy tops it I suppose. They're a regular participant in international tournaments and are currently in a very bad situation.

David Logan is not playing for Poland this summer, which make them really worse, for sure, at least they are all poles...

You can't compare teams from different FIBA Zones, although Lebanon, New Zealand and China are good teams in WC, not underdogs at all.

Italy is improving and they have chances at least to be in the AQR next year. It's really important to a country like Italy to be in EuroBasket 2011 to fight for the Olympics.

I would've put Italy in my top five but their struggles over the last two years puts them on shakey ground. After losing to Finland at home last year, and then dropping three of four qualification games to Israel, Latvia and Montenegro (althought they seem to be playing better or late), I'm not ready to say they're back. That's just my opinion.
