The scariest- Alien (1st of the series)
The Ground-breaking - Star wars ( 1st of the series)
Dark - Blade Runner
Ground breaking II - Matrix
Vintage - Planet of the Apes , Invasion of the body snatchers

Just for fun- Terminator, ET

1) Terminator 1
2) Terminator 2

Nothing beats those two films , especially in the context of watching it in the middle of the Cold War .

I've got to add "Wall-E" (2008) to the list.

It's a kid's movie, sure, but it's just great. It's got possible themes, like all great sci-fi movies.

[*]"Westworld" (1973) -- again, a good story with a good premise
Couldn't really enjoy the movie, maybe a little too old for our taste, but it's obviously the inspiration for the Terminator.

Nice. Some of my favourites that hadn't been mentioned in this thread:
- Stalker (1979)
- La cité des enfants perdus (1995)
Probably I didn't get Stalker. Great atmosphere, but didn't get it.
City of lost children was awesome on the other hand. I love these kind of French movies.

Did anybody see the movie "Moon" (2009)? It was a very good movie, although the acting was pretty bad. Great concepts: how to sustain a terrible job and what would happen if you met yourself.
Ok, this movie I LOVED. I think it's a brilliant story. Simple yet sophisticated. Just watch it if you haven't yet.

Dark City and Delicatessen not mentioned? Interesting.
