Someone's watched Solaris?, I mean the 2002 version, not the soviet one from the 70's. I've recently read the book and I'm interested about the film. If someone has seen it, please tell me if its good enough.

I saw Tarkovsky version with Lithuanian actor Banionis. And it is freaking long and slow. You just can't watch that film one piece though I haven't seen version with Clooney. It is widely considered that Tarkovsky version is much better than USA version but still IMO book was much more interesting.

Sci-fi is mine favorite movie genre and best films IMO are:
Blade Runner - totally agree that probably the best sci-fi movie ever.
2001 - stylish, cool film which even today looks awesome. Very good story also. But it is slow and I didn't like ending.
A Clockwork Orange - cool story. One of the best films I have ever seen but I am not sure that you can classify it as sci-fi.
Allen - now that's one awesome sci-fi film, pure entertainer. When I saw it first time I almost crapped my pants. Though no story.
Twelve Monkeys - good. I liked it. Brad Pitt acting was awesome.

I saw the 2002 version, but I haven't seen the '72 version. I thought the '02 was very good. I enjoyed it a lot. It's very dreamy in style, and perhaps a little slow, but it's definitely worth watching.

"Akira" is also very good. The action scenes are great.

If they ever film dimosthenis' liakopoulos' theory about the history of mankind into a movie then it will most deffinatelly be one of the best, if not the best scifi movie.

What do you have against Demosthenis? He and I are Putin's biggest fans in Greece :)

Did anybody see the movie "Moon" (2009)? It was a very good movie, although the acting was pretty bad. Great concepts: how to sustain a terrible job and what would happen if you met yourself.

I didn't know that. That's interesting. I'm not a David Bowie fan, but his son is apparently much better artistically than he is.

No, it wasn't a great movie, but it was far above average.

No DUNE????:D :(
I know, I know. There have been two good versions of the book (the one with Sting and then another recent one that was on the Sci-Fi channel here in the US). They were both extremely interesting visually. They were fascinating movies to watch just because of the visuals, but I've always found the story a little boring. :o

lol WHAT?!?!?:D
ok the david lynch movie doesn't make any sense at all even if you know from before the story, but the mini series was pretty good.
Dune has one of the best and most complex science fiction storylines-even better than the Foundation.. it's only in the inabillity of the directors and scenario writers to put that into screen.

but the David Lynch movie is a disgrace :D No wonder later he tried to distance himself by using pseudonym in the credits.

well..what d'ya know..are you a virgo by any chance?:D
No wonder shawshank redemption is thought as the best movie ever.;) :p

I know, I know. Even my Dad calls me an idiot on this issue.

Yeah, it does. I admit that. But it can be kind of boring don't you think?
-even better than the Foundation..
WHAT!? :D

Nah, that might be true. Foundation had so many little things that made it great, but I think it was too complex for it's own good. I think in the third book, the additional characters just became pedantic.

I think that's true.

I want to like "Dune." I really do. But I just can't...:(

Alien and Aliens

There were no sequels I don't care what anybody says.:p

No hyper depressing everyone dies movie, and no 'what the hell were they thinking' Alien/Human/dropped on it's head baby monster thing film.

Just Ripley, Vasquez redefining badass, and Newt stating a new family with Ripley, Hicks, and torn in half uncle Bishop :p
