Usually we say Eurovision is all crap.

Of course though, in its run of so many years, there were real good Eurovision entries, real gems (mostly old) that were winners and at times non-winners as well which were memorable and far better than the winners.

This is a thread to tell of the songs you really liked (possibly...)

Please for discussion of 2008 songs there is another thread. So use this one only for 2007 and before.

For 2008 songs the thread is:

I just love the French entry for 1991 from Amina. Quite a long title though: "C'est Le Dernier Qui A Parlé Qui A Raison"

Didn't win either... Just second place

Great band also.

An absolute favorite of mine is Gina G, the UK entry "Ooh Aah... Just A Little Bit", a sexy antheme song in 1996. It didn't win, but believe it or not, this Eurovision non-winning song was a top 10 hit in ... the United States...

Years later still sounding fresh at G.A.Y club. This is 2006

Nel blu, dipinto di blu is probably the only song that I know of that is one level above everything else (and everything else is camp pop crap, taking out a couple of successfull parodies..). if there were more valuable songs in there, they got lost in the crowd of mediocrity..
imho Eurovision is losing it's focuss lately. this way I expect it to die off slowly (preferable scenario) or to transform into what it pretends to be, but isn't - amateurs pop (strictly!!!) song contest. please no "rock" or ageing rappers. imho any weekly commercial European top-20 is better than the Top-20 Eurovision songs of the last couple of decades. so why pretend we're having a huge contest, when what it really is is a parade of mediocrity (to put it the mild way). and the bands countries like Spain, UK, Germany, France, Sweden and so on are sending are God awfull (especially when compared to their better known internationall offerings). and these walking misunderstandings are competing with wannabe international "stars" from the Eastern or Central Europe, who come with crap songs, often performing below their pottential, just to fit the imaginary EV format, that hardly even exists anymore.

on the other hand, masses always enjoy crappy entertainment, so maybe the more crappy EV becomes, the more poppular it will be. we've seen stranger things happen..

Of course the song you are referring to is the charming Domenico Modugno's Volare, Nel blu, dipinto di blu for Italian entry in 1958, so its exactly 50 years old now...

A massive international hit done in hundreds of versions

It was a time when Eurovision was about the song and not the show...
And the live band is cool !

I agree.. And the band was certainly more visible and the band conductor was credited by name in equal terms with the performer... and was even applauded. Not any more these days.

I have a feeling, even some of the music is canned, not actually played in recent years... I may be mistaken, but this is the case as I notice in the rehearsals.

I wouldn't be surprised if they turn to playbacks for the singers one of these days.

Dustin is the ideal candidate to represent Ireland this year.I am tired of the Eastern European countries with their
