Athletics - Discus, hoping Alekna to bring back gold again, our main gold chance for the Olympics.

i count on our women cycling team and modern pentathlon as well.

First of all, I'm very much like Mindozas. The idea to have most sports in one huge, global event is probably the most beautiful idea in sport generally, so I'll try to watch as much as possible, even the disciplines I usually don't care about at all, e.g. rowing, fencing or wrestling.

Secondly, I love to see the poll results: Almost every sports get its fair share of love here, which is very nice.

Personally, I'm a big fan of team sports. So I'm especially looking forward to the handball tournament and I will definetely watch some volleyball and hockey games. I like water polo, too, if it's on. I've watched a game in one of my holidays in Croatia a few years ago and it's been really cool.

I don't care for football at all though, since it's not very prestigous at the olympics. The best players won't be in Beijing. Furthermore, you'll see some much football here in Germany, it borders on annoying. On the upper hand, the west african teams usually perform very well at the olympics, which is a plus.

Of course I'll be following the track & field events closely, even the preliminaries. Just to see athletes from "exotic" countries and to think "It's nice to have you guys here, too!"
But rather than all the running stuff, I'm more into the jumping and throwing. And decathlon! I admire these guys way more than all the specialists. They also have this cool "big sports family" vibe written all over them, so they represent the whole olympic idea best.

Some gymnastics will be on, swimming will be on, too. No doubt. I'm also looking forward to the diving events, the most elegant sport in Beijing imo (Basketball doesn't count ;)).

And finally, I hope I can watch some badminton and table tennis, two of the most underrated, quickest sports around there.

Whoa, quite a schedule...

Favourite Olympic Sport

Mine is womens' Gymnastics. It's amazing to watch all these tiny yet extremely strong little women fly in the air with such elegance.:) It's a sport but also an art.

On the bad side,it makes me feel as slow as a paraplegic snail.

Amazing indeed. Btw, Chinese are being accused for bringing underage girls in the competition. Maybe it's a new thing but I heard the lower age limit for gymnasts is 16.

Yes.I always thought that in television they appeared smaller than in reality.
But while watching yesterday the chinese athlete compete, the commentator mentioned that she is 16,1.40 and 33 kilos.
Yet she can probably do more pullups than most 1.90 100 kilos men that frequent the gym.:D

BMX was awesome, the most exciting event so far..., offcourse football and judo , some of Athletics and I started to like yatching

Chinese girls and women often look much younger than they actually are, at least in the perception of Western people. The Chinese sometimes say the same the other way round. However, even taking that into account, I cannot believe some of those girls were 16 years old. Most of the talk is about He Kexin. She looks in my opinion like a 10, 11 year old. Her offcial birthday is the 1st of January 1992. There are rules for the Olympics, if it is true and she is younger than 16, those rules are being violated and it's not good. However, what would take the whole thing to another level is if gymnasts have their human growth artificially stopped - which is possible - in order to have them compete over longer than just a couple of years. After seeing what disgusting things are being done to make athletes perform better, it wouldn't surprise me a bit. That doesn't go only for the Chinese of course.

As for the sport itself, in my opinion the Gymnastics has too much drill and not enough joy in it. As there are boys and girls competing, I don't like it.

I most enjoy the Athletics, even knowing that only a small part of these athletes are clean. What can you do? Stop watching is a very bad alternative. Athletics is the heart of the Olympics. Watched it live on three days in Beijing, including Usain Bolt stopping running and looking for his rivals, pardon, victims, after 40m of the semifinals and still doing the 100m in 9.92sec. The things I mostly enjoy are high jump and the long distances.

Watched volleyball and hockey too, both was downgraded a bit by the lack of spectators. And then Spain-Germany and Australia-Iran in basketball. Most of the spectators just wanted to see Pau, Jose and Dirk and left after the first game. Shame.

As for the Chinese people, they seemed to enjoy weight-lifting a lot. Might have to do with all those medals, but everytime you were stopping at a shop or going to a restaurant, they were watching weight-lifting. Basketball, of course, is very popular, table-tennis, and they were all waiting for Liu Xiang, before IT happened.

There was a Chinese weightlifter at my old university, Wright State. He was as strong as a bull. There were not enough weights in the weightroom, so he used to ask people to sit on weightlifting machines for more resistance. Absolutely incredible human being.

They watch it, but almost nobody does it. Obviously the most played sports are basketball, ping pong, badminton, and football. But China's football sucks so much for so long, it's not even funny any more.

I'D RATHER WATCH LACROSSE, hey wait a sec, ohh right that's not an olympic sport, so well in that case, I just gonna keep wtching the major leagues, and forget about the BORING-lympic.

My greatest fear would be that someday they'll include male synchronize
swimming.
