Last night, Toronto and Chicago played. Nocioni and Delfino were the best scorers for the team:

Nocioni - 20 points, 5 rebounds
Delfino - 16 points, 7 rebounds (19 minutes)

Nocioni dribbling around Garbajosa

Delfino is averaging about 30 minutes a game, causing consternation among fans of Jorge Garbajosa, who say Garbo should be getting more playing time.

Nocioni, like countryman Manu Ginobili, is playing the sixth man with the Bulls, coming in behind Luol Deng. In 4 games, he's averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Ginobili is the Spurs' second leading scorer, behind Tony Parker, this far in the season. He's getting 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.

Ginobili's teammate Fabricio Oberto is playing center "by committee" with Dutchman Fransisco Elson. He just played his best game with 13 points and 4 rebounds against New Orleans. San Antonio has moved Tim Duncan to defend the smaller big men on the team, choosing to put Oberto on the biggest players instead.

Luis Scola is having a slow start to the year, but has erratic minutes. It's expected that he will do better as the season develops, because Houston needs another big man to play more minutes. No NBA observers expect this situation to continue.

Of all the Argentines in the NBA, the most enigmatic is Walter Herrmann. He finished the 2006-07 season with the best statistics of any Eastern Conference center, but has been limited to just under 12 minutes a game so far in Charlotte.

Herrmann a center?!?

they ran small ball last year so he got to play it. just like how Scola is sometimes is used as the 2nd Center for the Rockets. When RA wants to go small ball he'll put him up as C.

Speaking of Scola, he jsut needs to foul less, i love his aggressiveness but he makes it look to obvious that he is trying to harass his opponent...perhaps watch videotapes of Bruce Bowen should cut down on his fouls...only reason why he is not playing enough... Also he needs to hit those shots from the free throw area, if he does those 2 things he is golden...after all Ra likes his C in the high post.

I've only seen one Houston game this season, but I believe it that Scola fouls too much. I think it's so hard for players accustomed to other leagues (NCAA, EL, or wherever) to get into the NBA and aclimate themselves to the game. The fouls are so wishy-washy in the NBA. But I think Scola will be just fine in the end.

Ginobili had 18 points (6-9), 3 boards, and 2 steals in 21 minutes versus Milwaukee. Spurs won by a lot. Oberto chipped in 6 points and 4 boards.

Ginobili might be playing his better basketball in NBA, he seems faster...

Why is Herrmann not playing at all??? there's no explanation.

Scola will be ok as season goes on, it must be hard for him to adjust to play without the ball and no longer play as the first offensive option

I forgot about Delfino, I only watched one game this season, but he seems to have a importan role in Toronto

The Argentine NT met last night in San Antonio.

SCOLA!!! 20 points (10-11), 4 rebounds against the San Antonio Spurs

I'm not surprised. Nobody is, but this could mean that Scola will be more involved in the team. I hope!

San Antonio 90, Houston 84 -- November 16, 2007, AP, by Elizabeth White

Luis Scola, whose rights were traded from the Spurs to the Rockets over the summer, had a breakout game, scoring 20 points.

"He's a hell of a player, but we already knew that. That's nothing new," Popovich said. "It kills me to have him on that team. Just enough to make you spit."

Scola said the July trade wasn't a sore spot for him.

"I just try to play hard every game and sometimes I play good, sometimes I play bad. Today I hit those shots," Scola said. "It has nothing to do with ... the Spurs."

The Rockets (6-4) managed to tie the game at 80 with 3:48 to play on Scola's jump shot...

Scola also was perfect in the half, making all six shots for 12 points. He had been averaging 3.9 points before Friday's game and finished 10-of-11 from the field.

The Spurs pulled away early in the third. But Houston battled back with two baskets from Scola....

Already charging to offense
Easy lay-up

Ginobili: 19 points, 9 rebounds, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block in 28 minutes
Oberto: 0 points, 4 rebounds

Another great game by Luis Scola: 20 points (10-19), 11 rebounds, and 4 assists against Phoenix.

Luis Scola says "buy my new Spaulding-brand basketball. It will make you a better player."
His shooting form looks a little wierd

Chicago Bulls 92, LA Clippers 73 -- November 18, 2007

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- When he wasn't exchanging flagrant fouls with the Los Angeles Clippers, Andres Nocioni was hurting them at the offensive end of the court.

Nocioni shrugged off a couple of hard fouls by Tim Thomas and Chris Kaman and scored 21 points, complementing Ben Gordon's 25-point effort and leading the Chicago Bulls to a 92-73 rout of the banged-up Clippers on Saturday night.

"Clearly in both games he's started, he gives us a presence out there with how assertive he plays. And his emotion and passion for the game rub off on other people," coach Scott Skiles said.

The Bulls were ahead 39-25 midway through the second quarter when Nocioni committed a flagrant foul on Ruben Patterson as the Clippers forward drove the lane.

Patterson got right back in Nocioni's face and had to be restrained by referee Courtney Kirkland, who wrapped his arms around him and dragged him all the way back to midcourt to calm him down. Patterson received a technical foul.

"I've got a mark on my face, and they shouldn't allow that type of nonsense," Patterson said, sporting a welt below his right eye. "He should have been kicked out of the game -- and they gave me a technical foul for retaliating. If you look at the tape, he didn't even try to swipe at the ball. He went straight for my face.

"He's known for being dirty like that," Patterson added. "It's like what he did to Sam (Cassell) in Chicago when he hit him and damn near broke his nose. He's just a dirty guy. And if the league keeps letting him get away with stuff like that, somebody's going to get hurt."

Nocioni told reporters afterward that he was just retaliating to Patterson's aggressive play.

"I made a hard foul because he hit me with his elbow twice," Nocioni said. "I don't have any problems with him. It was just a situation in the game."

The hostilities didn't end with that play. On the Bulls' next possession, Thomas blocked Nocioni's path to the basket and used the opportunity to shove him away with both hands. Those two then had to be separated, and Thomas was called for a flagrant foul.

"That's how it goes sometimes. You get mad and you try to protect your teammates," Kaman said. "I thought Nocioni gave Ruben a pretty dirty hard foul. Ruben doesn't stand for that kind of stuff and he's not going to back down from anybody. Then Tim gave Nocioni a pretty hard foul at the other end."

When play resumed, the Clippers were still down 42-26 with 5:29 left in the first half. Nocioni was flagrantly fouled again with 6:03 left in the third quarter -- this time by Kaman, who shoved him to the floor from behind with his left elbow under the basket.

"I didn't think mine was a flagrant foul, and I'm going to challenge it with the league," the Clippers' 7-foot center said.....

So Nocioni got the Clippers pretty mad, huh? Whenever a player makes a team start crying about one player, you know they're just upset about losing. That's the case here. Patterson, Thomas, and Kaman were mad about losing and they took it out on Nocioni. Patterson really roughed Nocioni up on that play, and Thomas and Kaman just attacked him (and Ben Gordon got roughed up too). Instead of talking about their loss and how to play better, they just talk about Nocioni. Such big egos.

Andres Nocioni had 21 points (6-12), 8 rebounds against the Clippers. He and Luol Deng play so well together when they're on the court. It's just great to watch them.

Spurs in a win against Orlando:
Ginobili: 27 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds
Oberto: 6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists
in 16 minutes (he had 10 points, 10 rebounds versus Atlanta on Tuesday)

Toronto in a win against Memphis:
Delfino: 13 points, 3 rebounds

Charlotte in a loss against Washington:
Herrmann: 6 points, 2 rebounds
Herrmann has gained a lot of weight
Look at those veins...

It's still really disappointing that Herrmann is not getting more minutes. He played so well at the end of last year, he could've been an all-star.

I got to watch Luis Scola play again last night. He did a great job in a loss to Miami (Miami!? Yes, we lost to Miami :() Scola was just great. He played more or less 3 quarters (say out most of the 3rd). He had 20 points (10-16), 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, and 2 turnovers.

Actually, McGrady did an OK job getting Scola the ball when Scola was open. Yes, McGrady chucked up some bad shots, but he also gave Scola a few great passes, and so did Mike James. Mike James gave Scola a wonderful bullet-pass in traffic, which Scola dunked over Alonzo Mourning.

Even when Scola was not getting the ball, he played very well. Scola can really suck in thus loose balls and move right to the bucket or pass out to the perimeter. He moves around the court and keeps the defense honest. He mostly defended Udonis Haslem, who had 11 points, 8 rebounds.

Jump hook shot
Scoring over Mourning

I thought Houston's best line-up was:
PG - Mike James
SG - McGrady
SF - Battier
PF - Scola
C - Yao

Scola and Steve Francis

Scola and Steve Francis

I was debating whether to make a new thread fpr this or not, however I mgiht as well contribute here instead.

I have noticed something in watching the past few games in which Scola was succesful as well as when McGrady returned from his injury. It has nothing to do with the previous debate of McGrady being a ball hog, although I tend to agree; it about Steve Francis and Scola.

Here is one main thing I have noticed when Scola and Steve Francis play, Scola gets opportunities to shoot because Francis actually creates opportunities plays for Scola to show his worth.

This stat is referring to the Rockets Clippers Game, Rox won

http://clutchfans.net/games_box_listings.cfm

Thwre stats and info there, it's also a great way to analyze since Scola started playing more min.

Here is an example, in the loss to the Suns where Scola scored 20 points, Francis also played. In the nxt gae in which the Rockets lost to the Mavericks, Scola played but Francis did not, Scola had no points.

Although it may be a weak argument sine in future games Scola does not score much (althugh consistent so far in hte 8 pts 8 reb/game) from what I have seen in all the recent games so far is that anytie their is a fast break Scola always trails Francis and Francis always finds a way to get Scola the ball for the bucket.

Perhaps this is a sign of a maturity level from Francis not to mention he is more tolerant and friendly towards the intl players on the squad.

PS
one thing that made me laugh was in the recent suns vs rox game, rox won
Scola was called for a travel because he slid his foot laterally too much.. f**k as soon as he gets stardom status he wont be called for such things heck d wade, mcgrady, and others never get called for this, f**k that.

Phantim -- I'm going to watch for that. I hadn't noticed it, but you might be on to something. Interesting analysis to say the list.

Andres Nocioni scored a point for every minute he played, getting 30 points (6-9 fg, 3-4 3pt, 15-16 ft), 5 rebounds, and 3 steals in a loss to Dallas. Chicago lost 98-103 and according to the Yahoo! article, Nocioni was the only reason they were in the game.

A scary moment for Chicago fans
Rebounding

Nocioni is averaging 15 points and 6 rebounds this year, a number that has increased every week of the young season.

Some statistics till now of the argentinians:

Ginobilli : 28.7 min - 19.4 ppg - 4.7rpg - 4.3 apg - 1.7 spg
Nocioni : 25.8 min - 15.0 ppg - 6.0rpg - 1.1 apg
Delfino : 26.3min - 10.3 ppg - 5.1rpg - 1.3 apg - 1.1 spg
Scola : 18.9 min - 6.8 ppg - 5.3rpg
Oberto : 21.2 min - 5.9 ppg - 5.4rpg - 1.3 apg
Herrman : 10.6 min - 3.6 ppg - 2.2rpg

Imo all of them could play more minutes (specially Herrman that should look for a trade or a return to Europe) as their performances are more than good at this moment.

Delfino seems to be finding his place in NBA, I expect his numbers to continue to grow, so far Gino and Chapu are playing great..., Oberto's numbers don't say much, but he's been a huge contribution to spurs so far... I believe he has very good numbers in the new stat (+/-).

I definitely hope Herrmann gets traded or something... his situation is just unbelivable...

PS: Very good pics Matt, thanks

Theres no offense in admitting that Argentina is at least at the same level that the best Nts of Europe. ;)
Argentina is such a great basketball power, with so many players.. there are many many great players that even hadnt ever gone to the NT, and they are so enjoyable to watch!.
