Americas League 3rd Season

Espartanos beat Halcones in double overtime

ISLA MARGARITA (FIBA Americas League) - Espartanos de Margarita defeated Halcones Rojos de Veracruz 109-105 in double overtime to close day one of Group B in the FIBA Americas League.

Espartanos dominated the first three quarters, winning the first 21-16 and at halftime the lead was 40-32 as Cordell Henry netted 9 points and Kevin Freeman 8.

In the third quarter the offense of Halcones recovered led by Carlos Rivera and Ricky Sanchez and were down 60-58.

The first overtime was forced by a three pointer from Ricky Sanchez with one second left in the game. Halcones shot 4-8 from three to come back and force the overtime.

Espartanos had a five point lead (88-83) in the first overtime with 1:56 left but Halcones reacted and a three point play by Arim Solares forced the second overtime tied at 94.

In the second overtime Cordell Henry secured the win with two straight three pointers with less than a minute left.

Hector Romero led the winners with 29 points while Cordell Henry had 25 and Kevin Freeman 20.

In a losing effort Carlos River had 28 and Ricky Sanchez 20.

Nice effort by Flamengo, considering they don't have any imports.

Im really impressed with Flamengo win. Not only because they were without their main star (Machado), but because they were playing poor basketball this year.

Last year, I thought that Flamengo was the main contender for the title. This year, however, I thought they would come back with 3 losses.

is head to head the tie breaker here ??
if Capitanes win, only Flamengo can surpass them, not Espartanes ??

thanks

Yes, that is the tiebreaker.

Opening the gameday, Halcones Rojos beat Capitanes 92-84, which also eliminated Flamengo's chances of winning the group. And in the second game of the double-header, Espartanos beat Flamengo 77-69, hence getting the spot for the Final 4. A Flamengo win would have put Halcones Rojos into the F4.

Espartanos 2-1
Halcones Rojos 2-1
Flamengo 1-2
Capitanes 1-2

And now is a good time to remember this:

"Hector Romero, happy to stay in Venezuela, will go back to Europe in January" (Latinbasket). I guess this means Romero wouldn't be available for Espartanos if they make it to the Final Four.

-What will happen to Espartanos until February?

-Will Romero leave for Europe or take this chance to play acontinental final stage (which Venezuela and its clubs haven't done in recent years)?

-Will those players committed to LPB teams play the F4 or be forced out by those teams and the upcoming LPB season?

I think the answers to these questions will also define how successful the Americas League can be.

Is possible wacht the matches with some stream? the final match tonight Xalapa - Obras?

FIBA Americas League Final 4

FIBA Americas League Final 4

Just wondering does anyone care about this? Can't find any videos, or topics about it. Didn't even know they were this far until I stumbled over it at FIBA.com.

It's already started with Penarol and Quimsa opened with victories, and it will be over by the end of the weekend. They're playing tonight, but hell if I know where to look for it.
