Americas League 3rd Season

This B Group in this tournament is very tough.

The team of Isla Margarita of Venezuela has in their roster

Angelo Reyes (Puerto Rico national team strong forward)
Hector Romero (Venezuela national team strong forward, probably is going to be in Venezuela by that time of the year)
Jack Michael Martinez (DR national team)
Richard Lugo (Venezuela national team center)
Alex Quiros (Ex Venezuela national team pg)

Theres a lot of talent in this team but is a division II team. THIS TEAM MOST BE ONLY BY DIVISION I TEAMS.

Flamingo of Brasil has Marcelo Machado, two more brazilians nt players and good foreign players.

Mexico has a team with Jeffrey Aubry, Carlos Rivera and international puertorican Ricky Sanchez in the squad plus other international players of team Mexico.

This going to be a tough group.

Capitanes de Arecibo, have some players overseas but I hope that they can have most of their players back for they can have a good presentation.

Vaqueros de Bayamon should be in this tournament even with the four top players not available.

Two corrections

Hector Romero probably in that time of the year might be playing in Europe.

This tournament should only be play with division I teams of this respective countries. NO!!!!! Division II.

"Hector Romero, happy to stay in Venezuela, will go back to Europe in January" (Latinbasket). I guess this means Romero wouldn't be available for Espartanos if they make it to the Final Four.

Actually, the matter with Espartanos is that they aren't really a Division II team, because Venezuela's two pro leagues are unrelated between them (thei teams even sign the same players, since those leagues' calendars don't match), but LNB definitely the least powerful of the two.

PS: i think the toughest group is the A, and the D is the weak one.

Malvín just became the Uruguayan club to play the Americas League, by winning the local Super 4 tourney. The team has a few players with some experience in other South American leagues, like PF Torraye Braggs, PG Joaquín Izubejeres and PF Pablo Morales; a ultra-veteran like C Marcel Bouzout, and a stable member of the NT like C Nicolás Borselino.

Hot damn!

The Capitanes just signed Angelo Reyes, now we got no excuse to not finish top 3 in the tournament.

For the first 2 seasons Buster Figueroa carried Arecibo, now theyve got:

Andres Rodriguez
Bonzi Wells
Angelo Reyes

At least in terms of individual talent this is the best representation Puerto Rico has had in 3 seasons.

Do anyone know if Fox Sports Español is going to televised the game in USA?

It finally starts tonight! Group A tips off in Córdoba, both games at 8:00 PM and 10:10 PM local time.

cardenales: apparently these games won't be televised for the US. link

I think in Puerto Rico is different...:p

in the opening game, Quimsa beat Minas 82-75, even though they lost the final quarter by 20. Six players scored 10 points for the winner. And check this out: Minas scored 38 points in the 4th quarter, but only 37 in the first three.

And the hosts Atenas beat Soles comfortably, 89-74. I got the impression that Atenas's rough defense was too much of a difference.

Soles beat Minas 87-86, in a game led by imports; the top five scorers were Wheat, Penny, Lewis, Jeffries and Sucatzky.

And Quimsa beat the hosts Atenas 75-72, with a huge play by Mázzaro, who blocked a three point shot by Figueroa that would have tied the game with :06 to go.

And now, Quimsa is 2-0, Soles and Atenas stand at 1-1, and Minas is out at 0-2. But Quimsa still faces Soles in a must-win situation, since a loss would favor Soles or Atenas in a tiebreaker.

Yeah, this Quimsa - Soles match will be pretty intense.

I couldn't watch any of the games yet, I will try to catch some this looks like it will be a fun tournament.

Quimsa won the group unbeaten as they beat Soles 77-67. Atenas later took the second place in a meaningless game against Minas, 115-85, both teams using their whole benches.

Quimsa 3-0
Atenas 2-1
Soles 1-2
Minas 0-3

Quimsa had to overcome three injuries to win the group, having lost Dionisio Gomez before the opener and Franco Balbi on Day 1; and Federico Marin not at his best condition after Day 2. Let's see how they recover.

And this is another sign of international success by Argentine clubs so far this season, since they went unbeaten through all Liga Sudamericana and mantain that status here.

Yeah maybe Argentina can do what Brazil did last season and win Liga Sudamericana and the Liga Americas.

The game ended with a Flamengo win (81-66).

Flamengo beats Capitanes without Marcelinho

ISLA MARGARITA (FIBA Americas League) - Flamengo Río de Janeiro found other offensive weapons and with a good defense defeated Capitanes de Arecibo 81-66 to open Group B of the FIBA Americas League played in Isla Margarita, Venezuela.

The exit of Marcelinho Machado due to injury wasn't an excuse for the Brazilian team that came out with an intense defense and was paused on offense. Helio Vitor Da Costa Lima netted 23 points, Jefferson William Andrade Da Silva 18 and Duda Machado 15.

Flamengo won the first quarter 19-17 as Jefferson led with 13 points. Capitanes had Angelo Reyes with 5 points and Bonzi Wells 4.

Capitanes took command in the second quarter, taking advantage of the opportunities in offensive rebounds and then points off turnovers to have a 37-33 lead. Wells had 11 points for Arecibo to lead in the half.

The Brazilian team started to take control of the game in the third quarter, led by Helio who netted 11 points and with a more consistent offense inside they were up 59-53. Helio had 18 points at the part of the game.

In the final quarter a free throw by Larry Ayuso placed Capitanes down by just three points (66-63), but Flamengo made an 8-1 run to take off 74-64 with 2:48 and then a three pointer by Duda Machado secured the game with a three pointer to be up 79-66 with 43 seconds.

Bonzi Wells scored 20 points, Angelo Reyes 13 and Larry Ayuso 11 for Capitanes who will face Espartanos on Tuesday.
