Americas Clubs League

J-Mart2

Dear Leader
Proyected to start by October 2007...

16 teams

From Argentina (LNB), Uruguay (LUB), Puerto Rico (BSN), Chile (DIMAYOR), Venezuela (LNB/LPB), Dominican Republic (LIDOBA), Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and the host, México (LNBP).

Will have contracts, like the Euroleague. First team interested in a contract is the Boca from Argentina.

so.. I guess the Puertorrican BSN will change their schedule, and there are rumors Santurce Cangrejeros will try to get in the tournament. I read somewhere that Puerto Rico will have 2 teams in the tournament

OPG this is freaking awesomeeeee, I won't get too excited until it actually happens, but it's a good start. It will be hard to attend any of the games as I am sure it will be a team from Mexico City or Monterrey the one playing on that league, still it rocks!

Its seems great, but there is too little information, It seems that team has to buy a franchise, I don't like that very much, the best teams at every local league should get a spot to play. Plus I hope teams play with their real roster and are not allowed to make two or three big signings just for that tournament. otherwise it would mean nothing to win that cup, anyway I'll wait for more info about this, but this could be huge.

the Puerto Rican League (BSN) said that they will not change their schedule and our teams will play on the Americas League while the BSN is in offseason  idiots

aaa i get it now but is this official yet? or is this something they want to do i dont want to get to excited about this

well, im PR, the owners of the respective BSN teams are raising some doubts about the tournament.

they are not willing to move the schedule neither to play in the offseason, payin $50,000 to play without a full roster.

An owner said that he would sell the team if this goes through

A league like the european euroleague does not exist in america?? A copa americana for bball? Which are the strongest teams in america?(except nba of course)

we dont know, since there is no league :)

there was a tournament played some days ago where central-american clubs played each others, along with a PR Selection of 2nd tier players. Puerto Rico pretty much abused with BSN Bench players.

I suppose the best team is either from Puerto Rico, Argentina or Brazil

No way...
If something like that is created, then the young Latin American talent will stay at home and it won't be "stolen" by Tau Ceramica, Pamesa Valencia and the rest of the Spanish powerhouses :)

SAO PAULO (Liga de las Americas) - The FIBA Americas executive committee has confirmed the body wants to create a new tournament called the Liga de las Americas.

The idea is to create a tournament which groups for 16 teams in the region although the United States would not be represented by a NBA franchise.

Horacio Muratore, a FIBA Americas member and also the Argentinian Basketball Confederation president, told Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo: "The representative of the United States will come from university basketball, the D-League or any other local league."

Eduardo Dagnino, general secretary of the South American Basketball Confederation (Consubasquet), added: "Teams from the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil have already expressed their willingness to take part in the tournament.

"We need TV to take part too. We need a continental station, like ESPN or Fox."

Negotiations will take place in February in Las Vegas during the week of the NBA All-Star Game.
