American Football World Cup 2011

USA won the last WC in OT vs Japan in 07 with mostly Division 3 players. Japan was their only competition and they wrecked South Korea by a record score. I expect the USA to send an amateur, collegiate all-star sort of side. It's better for these nations rather than go up against Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, AP, Ray Lewis, ect. Although one could say this could be a good tournament for NFLers due to lockout ;) . It's nice to fantasize an NFL Dream National Team but it won't happen for awhile. Japan is the only squad and maybe Germany with an outside chance of beating the US.

It would have been hilarious if because of the lockout, real NFL players showed up in order to get in shape.

That's interesting, do Canada and Australia suck because they keep forgetting they can't use their own rules?

Also does Japan recruit Sumo wrestlers for linebackers? :D

No, they recruit godzilla

I'd love to see College Studs that are projected for next year's draft to suit up. Chances are slim though to see the likes of Andrew Luck (Stanford), Matt Barkley (USC) or Quinton Coples (NC) etc to play.

American roster from 2007 is there...as you can see, while there are a few D1 players, but not the big names, especially at the skill positions.

I think it'll be a few World Cups before we see a serious D1-level squad. Right now this squad has already beat up the world and this is a JV squad. The juniors did the same thing. Once the world starts to catch up and get better, so will the US, just like in basketball ;)

I find this very difficult if only for the limitation (helmets, shoulder pads, court) imposed by the sport. There's no way American football can become even 1/100th of basketball worldwide IMO.

JGX is that the only organized league for women's football? I'm surprised there are actually more than 2 teams participating :D

sino, don't get me wrong I do not think american football will ever be as popular as basketball or rugby or even baseball due to its complex nature and need for equipment (which is pricy). Just playing for my high school we had to pay a $100 user fee (60 kids were on the team). Covered jerseys (2 sets of game jerseys, 2 sets for practice), pants (game and practice), helmet (and logo sticker), shoulder pads, pads for the pants, field usage, and transportation....a lot of equipment and a lot of money. Fun game to play without pads though. I don't know about other countries, but I know in the states it is quite popular to play pick up tackle footbal without pads, similar to pick up basketbal.

I had no idea this was going on. I like it, though.

usausa, why do you say that Japan is the only "competition" for the US? Why not Canada? They've got their college leagues and a pro league, so there is obviously a base for players. Just curious.

I'm basing off previous WC results. Japan won the first two and in 2007 pushed them into OT. I hope Canada is good competition, as at the junior level these two have gone at it. Also, Canada has never participated in the IFAF World Cup before. But I am sure that this year the team's with a solid chance will be the US, Canada, Japan, and maybe Germany. Mexico I think leads the next tear along with France and Austria.
Heres the US roster, just released.

Canadian Footbal and Americna football are basically the same sport with different rules like FIBA basketball and NBA basketball or NCAA basketball but Australian football and American football are 2 completely different sports there is no relationship whatsoever between the 2. Australina Football is a kickin game much closer to soccer, Football is a throwing game, the foot is not really used that much inspite of the name. a American footbal player could play Canadian Football and vice versa but an Asutralian football player could not play American or canadian Football unless it is as a kicker because theier skills are not traslatable, and An Americna football player can't play Asutralin football either becuase they lack teh spesific skills for that pasrticular sport.

and no, canadians don't suck becuase they forget the rules (Canadian and American rules arent that different really it is just minor diference) They suck becuas ethye never send they best teams, like an all star of canadian Universities or canadian players in the NCAA or NFL, if they did, They would win the cup every year (unless USA NFLers show up) but The American Football federation don't want that becuase them they Championship won't be competitive and balance and it would be an unfair advantage aganst the other teams expect the USA and maybe Japan

the only team thath really bring their best players is Japan, becuase Mexico could do a lot better too you know

so all in all, this championship doe snot measure the real talent of Mexico and Canada, who could easily beat Japan with a real team mad up of their best player which is usually the best team in this championships.

Hey, Australia managed 75 yards of offense and only one turnover. Not bad. If they had Ben Graham punting it would have changed everything.
