After Gilas, what do you suggest?

After Gilas, what do you suggest?

Yes we definitely should continue the Gilas porgram! If we do it long-term, amazing results should follow. If we have a short-sighted 4-6 year perspective, nothing really big will happen, but if we continue this upwards of 10 years, better results will follow.

Here is my suggestion:

1. Gilas program should be continued for 3-4 years, keep the core players and have a deep pool of player for training (U16 - U18 - U19 players will do)...

2. Rehire Toroman or hire a coach that has the same philosophy (euro style) for continuation and improvement of play, tactics and the system.

3. Ask some pros (3-5 players) to be full time for the NT for the next 2-3years (if possible).

4. Get additional sponsors that will fund the NT for overseas tours... (more international exposures.)

5. Train the big guys to be more ready for next FIBA...

5. And at last every filipino must support our NT no matter what... Stop being selfish, crabbing, politics etc... We should all cooperate and be patriotic... Para naman sa bayan to db?

There you go... This is only a suggestion... Not meant to hurt or bash someone... Hope this will help... =) cheers...

Whatever the program will be (and whoever sponsors them, so the title of this thread is a bit misleading-- it should be a long-term national team) all i want is continuity.

On assumption that most of the Gilas players stay with the NT and not declare for the PBA draft i think it's best that they stay in the pool. Whilst there's risk that they will replaced in the final line-up (for every tourney) by more proven PBA players-- it comes with the territory since they are there for the development part.

1) fire Toroman

2) fire Toroman

3) fire Toroman

4) fire Toroman

5) fire Toroman

6) hire local coach

7) PBA selection still the best

I also agree that we should keep the core and elevate some guys from u-18 and u-19 so that when the times comes the original cast gets old, the young guns will be the successors which is good having an exposure and familiarity in international games already.

well I don't see any improvement in our future teams unless the different stakeholders of SBP and other padrinos of basketball in our country would work out their differences. One man or one company can't do it all alone in running the show of basketball here in the country.

If the Gilas program succeeds (gives us an Olympic berth or a semifinal finish), continue the program.

If it doesn't, then the SBP together with the PBA should form a training pool composed of PBA players + 3 amateurs, sponsored by the PBA and will carry the PBA brand while representing the country. (I know this is absurd, but making the team owners sponsor while marketing the PBA isn't a bad idea imho). (and one player from each PBA team, unless one team is willing to give up more than one player)

The PBA-backed team will practice together with a foreign coach for two years, participating in only two conferences each season. The 3rd conference will be reserved to FIBA tournaments, international tournaments and full-time training.

In 6 months prior to the FIBA Asia, the team will practice FULL time.

Of course, as long as every party agrees to this. If this happens, a slot in the 2014 Worlds would be guaranteed. (himala muna)

(sensya medyo magulo ideas ko, hope you understand)

Yes and miracles. Lots of miracles.

A miracle to unite stakeholders? yes.

A miracle to to pull off great victories. no.

I think all boils down to the teams performance, if it places at least final four continue the program if it places lower let us say 5th to 6th continue the program and tweak some rosters and coaching staff and players perhaps we could now get parks and ravena to play for us right?

7th below I thinks SBP has to think of something better

1. continue the program.

2. keep Toro as coach

3. start with a new pool players.

4. then they'll be reinforced with the previous Gilas Players(Baracael, Casio, Aguilar etc) who by that time should be playing in the PBA and aready established themselves in the league. that way, there will be no problem with the reinforcements learning international style and Toro's system
--

then this new batch will graduate from Gilas then join the PBA, then'll start a new pool again now with a wide selection of internationally trained players.
then start all over and continue the cycle

look for another sponsor if in case MVP abandons ship.

Probably the most important factor of all. Curiously, Noli now works for SMC. Will we see another NT-sponsored effort from his new company? Was this part of the consideration when he was hired-- knowing Noli has connections with FIBA AND, more importantly, knows the ins and outs of running an NT program?

If it happens, will we have the same problems in acquiring talents for the NT because of the Cojuangco vs. MVP (business) rivalry? With tables turned, will MVP support the NT (and release) his players? Or will he do an SMC (not really committed to the NT, unless they are running it)

to SBP and their stakeholders...

how about providing more public awareness programs for our U-age groups. case in point, seems like more Filipinos were not aware of the Gilas Program prior to their PBA campaigns. kung hindi pa nag-amok ang Air21 at nanapak ng fan si Winnie Arboleda e hindi mababalita ng todo ang existence ng Gilas. don't make me wrong though, basketball fans like people here in IBN Pilipinas forums knows a thing or two about our NT's and upcoming junior players, I wish the information could reach the general populace. aside from strengthening our NT's campaign, public awareness should be promoted too..how could you expect people's support if they don't know the existence of our NT's and what are they doing in preparation for the FIBA-sanctioned tournaments.

another thing..I hope SBP provides grassroots development programs on the smallest level of communities, up to barangay levels..so we could have "national standards" if not international standards on officiating and conducting basketball on that level. para educated naman sa tamang basketball ang mga common Filipinos. just my thought.
