Joaquim Gomes "Kikas" was again the MVP of the tournament after getting the 2007 honour.

He is a very good player but not a pure Center that can defend bigger players, this team needs a real center to be able to get to the higher level of competition they almost lost to Tunisia if it wasn't for their experience I see they are going down if they continue the same way
 
A note to say Angola became champion using only players from the domestic championship. Quite an achievement.

GOMES LEADS ALL-STAR TEAM
TRIPOLI (Afrobasket 2009) - Angolan Center Joaquim Gomes leads the All Star team of the 2009 Afrobasket, as he was voted best center and overall MVP of the tournament.

He was companied by playmaker Pape Amagou for Cote d'Ivoire, forwards Romain Sato from the Central African Republic and Amine Rzig from Tunisa, and center Diop deSagana from Senegal.

The All Star Five was selected by journalists and experts of the tournament.

Top scorer of the tournament was Romain Sato from the Central African Republic, best rebounder was Robert Thomson from Rwanda, and best three point shooter was Carlos Morais from Angola.

Cameroon received the fair play-trophy of the event.

I wondered about that particular pick too. Diop rebounded well,thats all.
Funny thing is, that Africabasket.com posted All-Star teams and i know the guy who compiled them probably did not even care to watch the games.
