So in the upcoming season there will be "only" 12 teams in ABA
So guys today i see some very rich guy wanna buy Zadar,i think that would be great if they accept
he also says that he would payoff all debts and Zadar would alredy next season play Euroleague

If he actualy does that, Zadar would be incredibly tough to beat even with a mediocre budget, let alone a multi million one.

Olimpija is obviously out of the league so far, but Tajfun (our great Slovenian champion :D ) says they're willing to negotiate as they probably won't find enough funds to play well in ABA. Also their arena fails the 2000 capacity standard.

I hope that MTA and Jerusalem will joing, but less them a slim chance

i dont think that will be possible in future cuz league is now 100% in hands of clubs and there is no more wild cards and those things i think?ask jpf xD

I have absolutely no idea where the league is supposed to get their finances from, but from the feeling I've got the federations (of various countries) will block any team not coming from ex-Yugoslavia joining the league from now on. Not to mention the league will only consist of 12 and not 14 teams. 4 Serbian, 3 Croatian, 2 Slovenian, Budućnost, Bosnian, Macedonian team and that's about it.

Krka signed Ivan Velić, ex-Široki coach and will base their team more towards youngsters this season. They completed their roster already.

PG: Katnić (from Igokea, 194cm, 89'), Rojc (198cm, 93'), Janc (Krka's youth team, 184cm, 96')
SG: Mulalić (195cm, 88'), Zatezič (197cm, 95')
SF: Kastrati (198cm, 94'), Lapornik (195cm, 88'), Zupan (201cm, 96')
PF: Ivanov (Zadar, 200cm, 85'), Tratnik (from Laško, 206cm, 89'), Ritlop (205cm, 95')
C: Lalić (Zielona Gora, 211cm, 86'), Dimec (Rogaška, 210cm, 93'), Polutak (209cm, 96')

Clubs agreed on 14 teams next season, after Slovenian federation threatened to pull out all the teams in case the league management would want to exclude the national champion Tajfun in favour of Olimpija. 14th team unknown at the moment. It'll be interesting to see the criteria based on which that team will be selected as If I understood correctly "wildcard payments" aren't supposed to be the case anymore.

lol this is so unfair but ok,slovenia will get what they deserve in future

What exactly do we deserve? If it was up to Slovenian federation than Krka and Tajfun would play, others did everything they could to put Olimpija in instead of Tajfun.

i didnt read well,fuck it

Participants of the qualification tournament will be Široki (BIH), Zagreb (HRV), Sutjeska Nikšić (MNT) and Kumanovo (MAK)

Olimpija signed Lapornik and Zagorac from Laško and Nikolič-Smrdelj who played in Czech league last season and is expected to re-sign Rupnik.

PG: X , Rupnik (184cm, PG, 93')
SG: Lapornik (194cm, SG, 93'), Mesiček (197cm, SG, 97')
SF: Hrovat (196cm, SG/SF, 94'), Nikolič (200cm, SF, 91'), Čančar (203cm, SF, 97')
PF: Zagorac (206cm, PF, 85'), Mahkovic (201cm, SF/PF, 90')
C: X, X, Vučetić (207cm, PF/C, 96')

Quite a decent team, considering the aproximate 700k€ first team budget only with some room to bring some decent PG and C.

Marinelli is practicing with Kvarner, coach Potočnik isn't counting on him and should likely be loaned to Kvarner for his final year of the contract with Olimpija, Čančar and Vučetić will be loaned to Škofja Loka in 1st Slovenian league and occasionaly play for the first team. Alen Omić has one more year under contract but will definately leave the club against a buyout.

kosarka.si reports that teams participating in the qualification round will have to pay a 150.000 € guarantee before participation, teams that won't make it will get that money back, the winning team pays their participation in ABA with it.
This will inevitably cause intrigue and bad mood in some countries. 2-3 years ago Široki definately didn't have that money, not sure about the rest.

James White in Cedevita, after Žorić second big name for them. Tedeschi obviously decided now is the time to pour some money in.
Nikola Ivanović in Mega

ABA league is an ordinary circus this season.

Because Olimpija not qualify via their domestic league, leadership expanded the league from 12 to 14 teams. This means an unnecessary additional month of playing. Also league reduce semifinals PO game from 3 to 2 wins, lol. And there is no 14th team that can pay WC to play in league.

I agree there shouldn't be 14 teams, however the leadership wanted to have Olimpija in no matter what as thats almost (no diss meant to Krka) the only team from Slovenia they're interested in. They even invented the rule just for Olimpija's sake that the team that qualified to one of the european competitions is automaticaly participating in ABA the next season, no matter the national championship.

The problem with ABA is that Serbs have too much talent for 4 teams only in the league and are exporting decent mid-level players to various leagues for peanuts, Croatia has too many traditional bball centers in Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Rijeka, Šibenik and 3 teams only (2 always being from Zagreb anyway) while with Slovenian federation they're realising that there are teams that would be willing to invest more, but aren't due to Slo league being completely unatractive for sponsors without Krka and Olimpija playing there for more than those 5-6 weeks. From what I've been told the federation might press on all clubs to play in Slovenian league the next season, even if that would mean 3 games per week for them, as they don't see a different way out.
And if Helios would apply to (their president is desperate not to play in Slo league without Olimpija, Krka and Tajfun) and win the ABA qualifications, I know all hell will break lose among the fans.

The league will have to consist of 12 teams and no matter how someone might feel about it and reward the most succesfull teams from the national championship only, otherwise various interests from all countries will tear it apart.

after Berisha, Fisher, older Žižić we brought also young slovenian PG Žan Šišak..

I guess Skokna will then be loaned to Gorica.

some are saying we are still looking for a backup for Kuridža.
our roster currently is:
PG Fisher, Mavra, Žišak
SG Berisha, Krušlin
SF Slavica, Rozić
PF Kuridža, Gabrić, Buljević
C Ante Žižić, Zubac, Andrija Žižić

coached by Rimac and Golemac
won't be enough to win ABA already this year but looking forward on watching them play.

Žan Mark Šiško :) His father Lojze was an ex-Yu U16 MVP in 87 or 88 or something like that, incredibly talented, yet at some point decided to drop basketball alltogether before making an impact at senior cathegories, now working as a coach with Olimpija at U14 cathegories i believe. Žan reportedly got the same idea last year and after a, what the club says was only minor quarrel with Potočnik (now Olimpija's head coach, chief of youth last year), dropped bball for a few months as he got sick of it.
The kid has "šmek" (can't figure out a translation... kind of "mojo"), inteligent PG that makes the offense flow the way it should be and extremely popular with coaches accordingly, while it could be said he lacks in some other classical regards of the game.

Just a comment about Stefan Nastic joining Red Star. I had followed him in NCAA quite closely and he has been a steady developer, with a terrific senior season for the Cardinals. He brings a different dimension to the Red Star center rotation since both Zirbes and Big Sofo are bangers, while he is a more of a technique post up player, with a stable mid-range jumper. He is a bit weak with his left hand and keeps favoring the right hand in his post moves, so that limits him a bit. On the other hand his right hook is a very solid weapon, along with the mid-range jumper. He is a solid rebounder, very good timing for blocking shots but lacks as a post-up defender where he is easily dispatched by stronger centers. He also has a bit trouble coming of screens and defending pick and roll, but is quite a good transition defender and defending face-up opponents.

I think he has a chance to be a very important player for Red Star next year (I don't see Big Sofo being more than one-year stop-gap solution at C), while he can be used this season more in national championship and ABA league, while he improves. We have a good track record recently working with big men, so I think we might have gotten a bargain with him.

Only Sutjeska and Široki remaining for that last 14th spot. Olimpija as 13th paid the wild card.

PG: US guard, Rupnik
SG: Lapornik, Hrovat, Mesiček
SF: Mahkovic, Nikolič, Čančar
PF: Lešić, Zagorac
C: Zakis, Vučetić

A PG away from finalising a roster. Olimpija won't battle for the F4, obviously this is the cheapest team since... 92'? or something like this, but has some good potential for the next season if these guys make the expected progress. Eager to see Mesiček, Čančar and Vučetić develop. All of those three might be registrated for Škofja Loka in Slovenian league and play there as well simultaneusly.

Union Olimpija - Gaziantep 79:77 (23:16, 43:30, 59:58)
Lapornik 22, Mahkovic 13, Mesiček 13, Zakis 10, Lešić 7, Sajevic 6, Čančar 5 in Hrovat 3
