47th PBA Season (Philippine Cup, Commissioner’s Cup & Governor’s Cup)

Troy Williams is playing great but there is no help at all from the locals of blackwater.

Phoenix and northport are heading to an early exit this conference.

Everyone is loving the ex NBA imports but the question is, why aren't they playing in leagues that pay more? Just curious. LOL

pba imports salaries are not being reported publicly unlike other pro leagues, and there is no reported maximum limit. they are probably being paid way more here than other foreign leagues, and play in a shorter season giving them flexibility

There is/was a salary cap but its the PBA. Plus the PBA allows imports to carry teams heavy which is good for their next contract.

The Converge NLEX game was good. Converge led most of the game, led by 53 pts from their import. Alas though was unstoppable in the 4th making clutch basket after the other, punctuated by a 3. Semerad also made a clutch and 1 layup over Arana. Making Ayo sit him for the more mobile Ebonia.

I'm seeing Tyrus Hill play the 3 for Blackwater right now, and he can play the position. I wonder why he didn't get minutes at 3 at Converge. He and Murrell are taller, longer, and maybe faster than Jeron and Racal. Speed-wise, Hill and Murrell are perfect for Ayo's Mayhem defense.

As good as Ayo is tactically, I don't like the fact that he prefers shorter players like Racal and Jeron at 3 when there are taller, longer players with solid defensive instincts or potential like Murrell or Hill. Just because shorter players fit his system more?

Yes he likes certain players but he adjusts. He traded for the small PG from La Salle. I was scared he was going to force a small PG. But after a game when the guy scored 20 something I haven't heard of him. And lo and behold, in the two games I saw, against SMB and NLEX, no small PG. Alec Stockton, Ahanmisi and Balanza alternated at the PG spot. Ahanmisi was supposed to disapper because Ayo doesn't like Filfors, but he's the go to guy and he is having career high numbers. Jeron is usable now. He plays SG or SF. But he is not the go to guy anymore. It's Ahanmisi. Converge has been winning games, so even if a bit questionable, I think Ayo's moves so far have been effective.

Last games of TNT, SMB, and BGK are done.

So is everyone accounted for? No injuries besides Pogoy from the Gilas boys?

Oftana with the game winner for TNT and a stat line of 14 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Kelly Williams was the player of the game with 16 points and 3 rebounds.

Nice to see Oftana getting the minutes & opportunities to score. Oftana actually is shooting an impressive 50% 3FG this conference. Hope he can somehow carry that performance over the FIBA game with Gilas. Another aspect of the game I like with Oftana is his passing skills & court awareness.

Oftana had been killing the O boards the whole game when JMF sits. The SMB wings are just too short. If this doesnt convince them to get a tall wing, I dont know what.

Teams need to realize Oftana is a rebounding wing, all thanks to his years of playing the 4 spot in Beda. He might be primarily a corner guy (by design) but if you don’t put a body in him, about 8 times out of 10, he’d go for the putback or offensive rebound. For this window, I think he’s got a very good chance to make the cut, and if I were Chot, I’d select him. We could use some length and the rebounding from the wing position. His 3 ball would come in handy, too, esp one designated shooter in Pogoy got injured.

I wish we could accomodate both Oftana and Tolentino, but knowing Coach Chot he’d rather load up on guards than lengthy wings. I could still remember Navarro’s skill set gone to waste.

That's weird, because Oftana is a shot creator at 3, a couple notches below Parks, and a notch below Dwight. That's the shot creating 3 Chot likes, e. Plus, Oftana might have the ability to play 2. His defense is also an asset, but Chot prefers offense to defense.

For some reason he gets only a few minutes of burn under Chot. Is he a worse player than Pogoy?

Weird no one is crucifying Gallant on sitting down JF unlike what Pido did in Northport
