Oftana played well in this game. 17 points on 5-7 (1-3 3PT), 7 rebounds, 3 assists.

Hope he plays similarly and more consistently. And he gets a bigger role this time. Maybe change my impression of TNT turning tall promising wings and tweeners to crap.

Why would they change this quickly. He did have decent numbers.

And they won their only game with him. What gives?

Looks like their doing the BAD strategy by relegating Rusbatch in the injury/reserve list, they probably wanna test who's the better fit

nice, converge has the budget to pay 2 imports

NLEX won earlier behind the 31 points and 8 rebounds of Kevin Alas.

Looks like Converge will not release Rusbatch and will serve as a back-up plan in case their import is injured or just needs to be replaced. It seems that they are copying the strategy of BAD.

Maintaining Rusbatch is bright idea since, just a guess, he is paid at a lower price than an American import.

Jamaal Franklin: 42 pts. (7/18 3fg) 11 rebs. 8 ast.

Jordan Williams: 46 pts. 6 rebs.

Meralco import KJ McDanniels has become slower & less athletic becoz of his extra weight. I think when he first played in the PBA as TnT import some yrs ago, he was so athletic, quick & an explosive scorer. He was a natural wingman back then but now, he seems more like a 4 than a natural wingman. Halatang bumagal talaga sya with the added weight.

Even when he first played with TNT he was a lot bulkier compared to when he was still in the NBA, he was still really athletic compared vs. PBA players but probably not against NBA players. Last year's and this year's versions of KJ McDaniels lost a looooot of his hops.

The Mikey Williams TNT/Jolas dramarama ain't over according to Homer "Shalala" Sayson

CHICAGO - It's not quite the smoldering fire just yet, but the flames are starting to hiss and crackle.

Another potential drama, with Mikey Williams in the lead role once again, is brewing over at TNT Tropang Giga, which made an impressive PBA Governors' Cup debut on Wednesday night by fending off Phoenix.

Williams, the team's highest-paid player whose current contract reportedly pays him slightly over $1 million including at least $250,000 in signing bonuses and money up front after signing, came off the bench.

Williams' former reps informed me that Mikey was able to pry a massive deal from TNT by leveraging a possible departure for the NBL in Australia. Without that he'd be lucky to get half of what he's earning now.

A full-time starter since TNT drafted him two years ago, Williams looked lost and out of sync as a reserve, making only 3-of-12 field goals while going just 1-for-7 from deep.

The usually sharp and prolific Williams, the PBA's Rookie of the Year in 2021, instantly became a dull shooter and finished with a mere 9 points in 27 minutes and 34 seconds of forgettable play.

GIVEN HIS OBVIOUS STAR POWER AND GIGANTIC SALARY, WHY ISN'T HE IN THE STARTING UNIT?

"That could change anytime. Just want to give Jaydee (rookie Frederick Tungcab) a chance to grow. Besides, it doesn't matter if he starts or not," new TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa told me.

"It's not a benching. He is still getting good, valuable minutes. But just like the rest of the guys, he should make his minutes count whether it's 28 or 36," Lastimosa added.

Jolas, one of the greatest players the PBA has ever seen, hinted that injury may have played a factor on his decision not to start the 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard.

"Just getting him back into shape. He was hurting in the offseason and he missed one week of practice."

That's a little too tough to digest.

If a player can clock in nearly 28 minutes off the bench, he sure is healthy enough to start.

Star players like Mikey feed off the pride and prestige of being a starter, the first to hit the floor and the last to leave. If they're on the active roster, the expectation is for them to be in the starting five.

WHAT'S REALLY THE SCORE HERE?

What I'm hearing is that Jolas and Mikey don't see eye-to-eye.

Mikey, sources told me, can't stand Lastimosa, who suspended Williams last October for missing practice. Lastimosa at that time was TNT's team manager, a position he still holds while also performing the coaching duties.

It's unclear if Williams had committed another infraction which led to him losing his starting job.

What's clear is that Lastimosa will not put up with any prima donnas at TNT. His job is to steel the nerves of the young men he leads to battle. He isn't in there to comfort the feelings of the disgruntled.

In the end, though, benching Mikey may not be sustainable given his salary and stature.

And the threat that he may leave for rival SMC if things don't work out for him in the MVP Group adds another layer of intrigue to this delicate matter.

Non-issue for me. Other stars have come off the bench, like CJ Perez.

Letting go of Mikey Williams is like removing one of the big torn in the ass. Simple analogy, he ain’t young anymore and he is FIBA ineligible. If rumors are true, the likes of 6’0 25 yrs. Old Remy Martin, 6’2 27 yr. old Sedric Barefield and 5’10 23 yr. old Kihei Clark may somehow re-consider applying for the next PBA draft, same with the likes 6’3 21 yr. old Josh Pierre Louis of UC at Sta. Barbara and 6’4 23 yr. old Jarod Lucas of Oregon State all Div. 1 player and fresh from college(?) and may also test the water here as well. Those guys may not yet reach the level of the Mickey Mouse dude but certainly they are much younger and hungrier for recognition. Besides it’s really difficult to have so many prima donnas in the team, that is why Coach Mark Dickel was kick out(?) because his No Carb policy was not in the liking of the so-called resident senior Primas like the Blur and Machine Gun.

Another win by Converge. Its good to see a not so talent laden team doing well. Credit goes to the players for playing hard and to coach Aldin Ayo for being a brilliant mentor. At least U can see that Converge always plays to win, unlike sa ibang teams dyan who plays to lose so that it can get a blue chip rookie in the next draft na ipamimigay lang naman nila sa SMC teams

Do you think Coach Ayo will develop Arana the way people here wants JF to develop?
