47th PBA Season (Philippine Cup, Commissioner’s Cup & Governor’s Cup)

The big question now is how the PBA will adjust its eligibility rule considering that Brownlee is now a naturalized Filipino. I'm sure SMC(Ginebra in particular) wants JB to play in All-Filipino Conference. Or the league will reformat it's setup?

The difference between the case of Douthit and Blatche, they were associated with the MVP group and JB is with the SMC....

Actually, he's a good option for SMB. A 6'7" 4 who could play 3 in stretches, shoot, pass, and defend.

Malonzo indeed was the difference maker in game 7. Goorjan was saying that their presence brings improvement to their opponents as well as to their team. And it is exemplified by the improvement of Standhardingers game as well as Malonzo. CS in the PBA was all about bulldozing opponents. But now his "jumper" a bit farther from the rim has been money. Malonzo on the other hand showed why a 6'2 import, no matter how good he is, can be nullified by a tall active SF. BAD was forced to play Powell at 3 so they could also play Yang and Lam. Malonzo abused them on the boards because of this. And punished them later when they sagged off him.

Tall SFs have generally not been useful in the Philippine setting because of the extreme phyisicality allowed. Laterals and dribbling skill become useless if your are mugged everytime you drive in the paint. But if calls were like in game 7 they will allow the Malonzos to thrive and actually help Philippine basketball develop to the modern era.

Amongst them, AK34 has a very strong case to play in the All-Filipino because literally his basketball and educational heritage was really established here compared to JB, MD and AB.

I dont think they will allow JB to play as a local. Doing that will open the doors for other NPs. Imagine Kouame, Douthit and Blatche playing as locals. The teams without NPs will be swamped.

The PBA should really amend that old rule. Naturalized players should be allowed to play in the AFC.

Reminds me of The 1999 version of the Rookie The Dynamite 6'7 Danny Siegel is a sight to behold at that time but unfortunately our so-called local coaches hasn't had an idea(?) or just being bone headed even at that time that we really need that kind of height to play the SG or SF position.

Congratulations to Ginebra, people are now calling Brownlee the MJ of the PBA. 6 Finals 6 wins.

I'm recalling a statement I posted back when I said the PBA will make this last until 7 and some people challenged me...I told you so.

last night shows why japs didn’t level up.. if he has good handles, he can easily blow by big liu.. instead he became tentative

It's for the PBA to study the situation. If ever PBA allows them to play as a local, how will be the recuitemnet process? Are they going to be direct hires or they'll undergo special draft?

The PBA should really amend that old rule. Naturalized players should be allowed to play in the AFC.

Just scrap the 3 conference format,, if they are not yet ready for a single-season format, they can implement the Com. Noli 2 Conference format. And make the ALL-FILIPINO CUP a qualifying tournament for FIBA ASIA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The champion of the 2 conferences will represent Philippines in the EASL. And scrap the height limit, or modify it, like top 4 teams can only hire 6'5-6'8 imports and the 5-8th place team from AFC can hire unlimited height import and the bottom 4 teams can hire Unlimited height import + asian import with combined height limit of 400cm.

PBA is too predictable that we can even say its scripted. ;)

How do you expect a guy who has recurring injury and playing hurt throughout the conference to level up his game?

i mean in his career.. from the get go if he only above average handles like a xavier cooks handles he can easily blow by big liu

If theres someone that can break that rule its JB, feel like PBA if demanded by fans enough will cave in since allowing naturalized players as well as College imports to play might be tempting enough to mitigate the talent drain of players going overseas

That means the likes of Douthit, Blatche and Kouame will be allowed too.. And this will change the landscape of the league as whole... Brownlee might be the best of them but Blatche will be the most impactful player out there... He will easily kill the competition even he's out of shape... A 3 to 5 month conditioning will be enough for Blatche to be on shape, PBA management might think of this one...

I think PBA should go the way of B. league as far as mitigating the advantage of moneyed clubs having NPs are concerned. Teams that won't be able to hire NPs should be allowed to hire Asian imports (legit FIBA Asia local, no height limit) aside from former FSAs, at least for the reinforced conferences.

For AFC, as a handicap, the 7-Fil-for/Fil-heritage limit would be suspended for the NP-less clubs, and they should be able to direct-hire guys like Barefield, Holt, Sage Tolentino, QMB, etc. NP-laden clubs would not be allowed to do the same.
