Yes exactly, there are other ways to address it but boycotting is not the right move. Anyways marcial and those other pba teams shouldt be saying those things as if the pba doesnt have problems of its own.
This. IMO they should have just publicly condemned the officiating then route the other team. I doubt they'll try anything fishy given the public outcry.

The thing is we saw a ridiculously undersized Gilas 1 team under Toroman play everywhere in the Middle East through bad calls and took a lot of losses, not only against pro Arab and West Asian clubs with all their foreign players, but even National Teams that weren't restricted by FIBA eligibility rules. Before SGA, pardon the vernacular... sanay sila na tinatambakan mga Pinoy.
Slave trade is in their blood and they have just tolerated Filipinos who will say yes to anything. The Arabs will probably wait on the Indonesians to get better at hoops or hope for more Chinese migrant workers so that they can try to invite Chinese teams instead. Either way, if the PBA had balls to say something... then why haven't they sent legit PBA clubs to the Middle East to play an Al Riyadi or Al Ahly? They couldn't even win the EASL.

Was personally not a fan of the boycottt as well but its hypocritical for some of em especially those with TNT and those with teams thats always the beneficiaries of lopsided calls and trades to say those things. Imo this is just them subtly saying to the lao's they wont be getting their own pba franchise anytime soon.
My exact sentiments. Doing the boycott was a weak move. But, comments coming from executives of a different league is also distasteful.
Their intention is pretty much obvious when they said..."we should be very selfish"...when it comes to allowing the use of Team Philippines.
Deduce what you want from that remark.

I actually agreed with the boycott. I saw all the games except the semis. The calls were all blatantly against SGA. Fifty fifty calls like fouls and last touch always goes against them. I think that's why in the quarters they focused on their outside shooting. This is actually how uneven calls go. You will say it's their fault for not driving enough. But what you don't see are the uneven calls. They get hacked on their basket and no calls and on the other touch fouls are called. I didn't see the semis but I doubt it was fairer than the other games. SGA already adjusted their attack in the quarters. The thing is if physical contact on jump shooters are not called, saan ka pa pupunta? I understand SGA. They've been here at least 3x. I also watched those games. And to me this looked like the worst called tourney for them. You can't blame them for skipping the 3rd place. There was no respect for them. Look did the organizers react on their boycott? The silence is golden. It is obvious for anyone who watched most of the SGA games in this tourney that the organizers weren't fair to them.
Edit: And you see all the "local" players whine about every call against them. It seems they expect calls to always favor them like spoiled kids. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Please correct me if this is how they always are in their own tourneys. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth when they whine when most 50/50 calls are already getting their way.

If that was bad officiating, how about Jones Cup calls? But we are there to train and build chemistry not to win that why not a lot of complaints in previous tournaments.

Because SGA spent all that $$$ to compete. Getting for NBAers plus local stars isn't cheap. They went all in and built a talented team. Their budget is probably at least double of what Zamboanga spent just to lose like that. I'm not saying what they did was right but I understand how they feel.

Smart Gilas 1 performed well in the 2010 and 2011 Dubai International Basketball Tournaments, even securing victories against Lebanese and Egyptian teams that had 2-3 imports.
Correct.
Smart Gilas finished 3rd in 2010 in that tournament & a runner-up finish in 2011 edition of that same tourney. I remember there were even games where Smart Gilas played importless while the opposing Arab pro team played 2 American imports, yet Smart Gilas won the games.

I remember watching Red Bull play some Qatari clubs back then and they got blown out. This was the team with Miller, Villanueva, Torion etc. They brought Sakboy with them. of course they didn't really play against real Qataris but played mostly against players from Senegal, Cameroon etc as the locals either don't care or aren't good enough. They did it just to flex their money and stroke their ego.

They reached the finals last year with arguably a less offensively talented team. They fought Arakji's team toot and nail. This year that team didn't even join. I guess the organizers have favorites. They really loved KQ. And I think it favored him in the calls. In the finals Arakji got him to fly in the air on a fake. When he bumped Arakji on landing, no-call. Even Arakji was surprised a few seconds on the no-call.

So i guess the boycott is a calculated move after all. Snoe badua is saying that is SGA planning to start a similar tourney next year here in the country. Let's see if they're able to pull it off and invite solid teams.
