34th Dubai International Basketball Championship (SGA/Zamboanga)

I wanna ask, just how many imports are allowed each team in this tournament? If we look at SGA's roster, you got Cousins, McCullough, Richardson as world imports. Then you got Blatche & Kouame as naturalized Filipino players. From what I remember from pervious editions of this tournament, they allow just one naturalized player in each team which is not counted as an import, so one among Blatche & Kouame should be counted as a world import. SGA therefore has 4 world imports.

Please someone here enlighten me on this.

I think this is an open league.. you can parade all import line up and still no problem....

I think basketball governing bodies in Gulf countries will eventually come up a common ground and establish a regional league. Home and away format. At least 3 teams from Saudi ; 2 from Qatar and 1 each from Bahrain, UAE and Kuwait. Guest teams from neighbouring West Asia, 1 each from Lebanon and Jordan. Another 2 guest teams 1 each from Egypt and Philippines (like SGA) that is to cater its respective large expatriate communities. That make 12 teams.

Home and away format may apply with Jordan and Lebanon because of its proximity to Gulf countries. Whereas teams from Philippines and Egypt it’s possible a Gulf city which has large community of Filipinos and Egyptians may adopt and host them. To maintain parity Gulf teams can utilise 3 world imports at the same time while guest teams can only have 2. All 12 teams can have a maximum of 2 naturalised players… Well, this is just a figment idea of mine…

Actually they have already, the WASL.. top 2 ball clubs from Lebanon, Jordan, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Bahrain battling it out for being best team in West Asia.. top 2 teams there will be the representatives of WASL for BCL.. Al Riyadi is the defending champs for both WASL and BCL and currently tagged as "best ball club team in Asia" today... It gathers huge crowd and fan bases in most of the games.. especially the rivalry between Al Riyadi vs Saggesse (bitter rivals in West region ala Manila Classico of 2010s).. Egypt represents Africa and they joining BAL...

Ah OK. I think this wasn't the case some 6 yrs ago in which 3 world imports were allowed each team but only 2 can play at a time. Then a team is allowed 1 naturalized player which doesn't count as a world import

honestly, I'm not into the x's and o's of the games.

whether SGA or Valientes won this tourney, it doesn't matter to me that much.

just hearing that hala!! hala!! halaaah!! helwa!! helwa!! helwa!!! chuk chuk chuk

all game long of that arab broadcaster, I'm done for the day.

mababaw lang talaga ang kaligayahan ko...trans. laughter is the best medicine.

The only 2 import can play at a time tule is still being enforced as charles tiu has recently mentioned in an article. Not sure what the max is but sga, zamboaga techinically has 3 each not counting the naturalized ones.

Does hairboy getting quality minutes? I was hoping to see if he can display some swagger in the international scene once again.

Day 4

STRONG GROUP (85) – Cousins 26, Kouame 14, Ildefonso 12, Williams 8, Richardson 7, Blatche 6, McCullough 6, Abando 4, Brickman 2, Sanchez 0, Liwag 0.

BEIRUT FIRST (78) – El Darwich 26, Haidar 18, Mezher 10, Ledo 7, Farmer 7, Mahmoud 5, Kadji 5, Khoury 0.

I feel "panghihinayang" on Dave Ildefonso. I think he should be playing in the PBA instead of being idle for for some time now. While he isn't a national team material, at least for now, I think he won't do badly in the PBA, especially if he lands on a not so talent laden team (wag lang syang babagsak sa SMB or sa Ginebra). The guy is only 24 so there's still a lot of basketball years ahead of him & mag e improve pa sya in the coming years. At around 6-foot-4, he's a good size shooting guard. Let's be honest, how many 6-foot-3/6-foot-4 natural shooting guards do we have in the PBA? Kunti lang, di ba?

The players are looking better individually. Kouame looks better. Dave looks better offensively. He knows where to get open looks and has stopped his drive then stop BS move. It seems it was hard for the lanky players in this game. The opponents are physical and have decent length. Several calls were bad. The team wasnt able to give good screens. Abando and McCullough couldnt get good looks against the physical defense.

Only catched a glimpse of the game for maybe 3 mins of game time before the 1st half ended; all calls, yes all calls were in beirut's favor. Good thing SGA was able to build a big lead already.

1.88 m or 6’2. 6’3 with shoes I guess. Good size for SG but still slow defensively.

that’s his issue when he’s in KT sonicboom before. his defense.. same complain from Baekpd1983..

I hope he (Dave I) will talk to Northport management heart to heart, same what Heading did and now Mikey.. If he wants to be traded then talk to them with positive aura.. Don't put on his situation that pride in his part will kill his career.. I still think Northport will willing to trade him to his better team situation (ex: Converge) as long he and his camp will lowered their egos and talk to Northport management directly...

I still think Tolomia and Caperal are PBA material players.. Dyip or Blackwater should sign Tolomia for more firepower while Phoenix should sign Caperal for added size...

Where did you get the news that Mikey talked with TNT and "lowered" his ego? Lol.
