only two from east asia (aside from china).
that's why i think the most affected subzone with this new qualification system implemented is east asia

...imagine if china was not the host. only one among skor, japan, and taipei will qualify!

and to think any one of those three teams can beat half of the teams in fiba asia championships.

wow! that's stupid!!!

well they can always include RP in that region if FIBA wants it..it would be a good elimination round..

it might be avoided if they participated in stankovic cup:D:D:D
it was excess spot the top 5 supposedly for the top 5 teams so the 7-16 syempre di kasali host will bye for the 10 slots in sub region its all their fault really for not taking Stankovic cup seriously yan tuloy they give them a sample:D:D:D:D

the date for the draw (june 17) approaches..

Good luck Lebanon!

What will be funny if all the strong teams end up goin to the same group. then all the weak teams 2geder. That will suck!!
When all teams are eqally talented. Its all about the draw!!

hey it wasn't funny back in 2007, our country was groupew with Iran, Jordan etc... and we lost due to Caguiao's bad mouth against Iran

I'd love to see China, Lebanon, Iran and Jordan in the same group:rolleyes:

I think that can't be bro, because the seeded teams are Iran, Lebanon, Korea and Kazahk..the only question here is where would china place themselves among the four groups..but I guess they would go to the weaker group..who knows, they might challenge Iran or Lebanon even in the elimination stages just to tell them who the boss is..keeping my fingers crossed though.

but frankly speaking, I wanted our RP team bracketed against Lebanon and Jordan..laglagan na kung laglagan.. trans..its make or break group..

if we come to think of it, we have nothing to lose. lebanon and the other M.E. teams have naturalized star players (not mere back-up but star players) so we are clearly at a disadvantage because we are again sending an all-filipino team. we are clearly the underdog.it's good that this is established early in the minds of our players as it might spark the do-or-die attitude we filipinos are notoriously known for. so i say, bring it on!

Well i woul prefer phils would fight a weak team 1st then on the 2nd game a strong team to have a momentum. If you fight a strong team at the start ur team might be off guard.

wow! that's stupid!!!

yeah it's fully stupidness , the gulf region with very low level of basketball get always 3 teams in FIBA asia and this time may b 4 teams !!!!!!
it seems that qatari FIBA asia president uses hes power :(

i believe!!!! this will make a strong statement in basketball whoever wins it... if RP wins against these teams in the first round... they're sending their signal clearly... it's all the same, they would face each other again whatever bracket they will fall.... but i hope it's not china so soon, coz there will be a home crowd advantage plus a factor that china is the favorite... any team in the early round except for china will be good for our team... it's basketball, 40 mins of action, its a matter of discipline and hardworks... whoever plays well and play according to their plan, may win against the others... the problem from our last NT was, they set their mind from the deep hole... they were fazed by their grouping that's why they were not prepared for the game until they realized somewhere in the latter part of their first game that they can go toe to toe with the iranians. that's why when were trailed iranians by uncomfortable lead we suddenly poured our shots slowly then stepped up to the game... it's too close but we are not prepared.... it should go either way. i still believe coach yeng will transcends his PBA coaching style into the international scene....

im still for the RP team...
i hope they'll have the chance to be in the final three

on the other hand, im happy that we are sending an all-filipino team...
it establishes the ground for the filipino-pure blood to represent the RP team...
i will definitely boost the hopefuls
though like what is said above we are the underdogs...
it actually awakens my sense of nationalism...

i would really want to see kelly Williams in RP team..
he is the energizer and he can always spark the run of the team..his astig plays can awaken any team he belongs any time..and its good to see him dunking on those 7 footers from china..contain kelly if you can will be the story of the game..but kelly will not be able to join the team anymore..

Please be informed that the following teams would be competing at the FIBA-Asia Championship in Tianjin, China this August 6-16, 2009:

Host: China
Qualifyers from the FIBA-Asia Stankovic Cup: (1) Jordan, (2) Kazakhstan, (3) Kuwait, (4) Qatar and (5) India.
Qualifyers from the Gulf Cup: (1) United Arab Emirates and (2) Bahrain
Qualifyers from WABA: (1) Iran and (2) Lebanon.
Qualifyers from SEABA: (1) Philippines and (2) Indonesia.
Qualifyers from EAST ASIA: (1) South Korea and (2) Japan.
Qualifyers from MIDDLE ASIA: (1) Uzbekistan and (2) Sri Lanka

The draw will be held on June 17 at Tianjin, China for the Preliminary Groupings. The top four finishers of the 2007 FIBA-Asia Championship in Tokushima, Japan are seeded in order of their finish and would be on one group each. China as the hosts has the right to choose which group it will be under. Iran, Lebanon, Korea and Kazakhstan were the top four finishers in the biennial meet two years ago.

It seems that FIBA is disagree with the Fiba-asia's arrangement that the contenders of Asia Stankovic Cup automatically get the slot in this year's Fiba asia championship. Some of NTs which played in last year's Stankovic cup will not have the qualification to compete in Tianjin.
There is a report in Taiwan today that Chinese Taipei would be able to step into this year's Fiba aisa championship and the president of CTBA would show more details about that tomorrow.

I hope it's not a rumor.

the draw will be tomorrow...
i hope that boss Nardy can give us updates on the draw..

ill keep my fingers cross that the RP team will not be group together with china..
not just yet..
i wish to see the RP team vs china(if in gods grace there will be) in qfinals of semis(i wish)
