i dont really brush off our past achievements and i really admire it and acknowledge it. but what i believe that we should do is to put these achievements on our trophy cases and use it to inspire us. then we should start from scratch and acknowledge the fact the we arent the best right NOW and take the necessary steps to get back our glory here in asia then the world. coz we dont really know if we can make it happen all over again.
That's what im trying to say.. we were once the best in this part of the world... i dont think the way we play basketball is inferior tha the rest of the team in asia... all we need is ample to time to assemble and train as a team. individual talent and skill wise, i believe that Philippine cagers are the most talented in asia... but basketball is a team competion... and we have players assembled in few weeks before the actual competitions... what do you expect to happen??? we dont lack the talent and the skills... we lack the time to build a team for international competitions...

the level of competition right now is very much different from the 50's and the 80's, basketball has evolved all around the world, and achieving or past achievements again would be nearly impossible as it is every countries goal to surpass these achievements. and i bet that it is also nearly impossible for our RP nt to repeat these achievements. because of countries having a very deep budget and limitless resources.
Only the rules changed... the level... i guess is much the same because during the time all those who played basketball use the same rules.

i'd say that we ARE the best in asia if we could prove that we could win it all again, but with Lebanon, South Korea, Qatar, China and a whole lot of NTs aiming to be the best, we are far from being the best right now. as history shows we have not been asian champions for the last 10 asian games competitions and also for the last 8 fiba asia basketball competitions. so clearly these proves the we arent the best right now. you could say that we WERE the best in Asia, but you cant say the we ARE the best in asia right now.
im not saying that we are the best in asia nowadays...
i think your data is wrong.. we captured the gold in 1985.
as i have said... we only send Class A Teams in Asian games...
ABC and other tournaments, we sent Class C & D...
ANd these people are judging the performance of our present team from our Class C & D teams who competed in international tournament such as ABC...

anyways, despite or arguments, i still believe in our RP Nt and with china sending their team B our chances of being champs this year may be a lot more possible.
dont get me wrong, but i just respect opposing NTs so much that you cant just disregard how much they could match well against our RP team. thinking that we could just beat them all is just an act of ignorance.
As i am saying here... we can beat teams like Lebanon, Japan or Qatar easily... as per my assesment of all these teams not only because i love Philipines to win. We have beaten these teams before in exhibition games with our Class A players. Eshibition games only because our Class A team from PBA were not able to join because of its own tournament schedules.
I cannot blame this peole why they look down the present Philippine Team. They have based their judgment from the previous teams we sent in international competitions which were Class C & D from PBL & MBA which are far more inferiors compared to our Class A players from PBA.
We even made good impressions to US Basketball League (USBL) a profesional basketball League in the US on how the RP NAtionals play and its talent in basketball when they played in the US soil in April 2007.
I believe that these people are misjudging our present NT. Well, as i have said... we will make a good surprise for the these teams who neglected our prowess in basketball.
Mine is a fair and square assesment... i've seen Lebanon, Qatar, Iran, japan kind of game and brand of basketball... and the way our NT is palying and preparing now... we should not have any problems beating these teams...
The team to watch out are still China and South Korea...
They have been the pain in the ass for years for Philippine Team.
