24th FIBA-Asia Championship [Jul 28-Aug 5 Japan]

  • Thread starter Thread starter Kings2
  • Start date Start date
Well if u ask me guys,,i would say watch out of those teams Jordan,Iran,kazakhstan..they might be the black horses of this championship,,
i know that our jordanian history doesnt have that much in asian achievments
AS NTs of course,,but things change..we have an excellent roster..with american jordanian players who play in the US also a new Naturalized super player Rashiem wright..with great coaching staff Mario Palma x-angola head coach..with 2 months of his arrival we reached final for of Asian games in doha,,and were near of getting a medal...but we couldnt cuz of some problems happened in the 3/4 game ranking death preoblem i mean..

Iran also is an extreme threat for other teams,,they have great players they play physical alot and got strenght...same goes for kazakhstan...they showed great level of Bball and gave big teams a very hard time...they lack some experience..since they are all young..but still i will give them a big credit

peace

By FIBA men's ranking

11. China CHN 262
24. Lebanon LIB 57
25. Korea KOR 52
26. Qatar QAT 45
28. Japan JPN 39
37. Islamic Republic of Iran IRI 18
(The ranking is calculated within the scope of a 2 Olympic Games cycle)

If I have to base on the recent(and past) achievements of asian teams, I will rank top 4 like FIBA rankings.(eventhough that ranking don't care Asian Games) Korea did bad recentely(05 FIBA-Asia 4th... worst ever, 06 Asian Games 5th.. worst ever), so we ranked low.

My personal ranking.. for 07 FIBA-Asia

1. Korea
Old asian basketball fans still remember Korea was good, but kids don't and can't know cuz our recent results. I don't blame them, we had to show better plays but so many reasons stopped our players.(injury, coaching problems., referee problems... but I knows that become excuses. we have to show the results)
We couldn't focus on International games recently, but I still believe if we prepare well, we can show our real power like 02 Asian Games.
At now, we still have good players(like asapa11 said), but associantion didn't know how to use them.
prepare is most important thing for Korean team.(team that beat China in 02 Asian game, and the team that beaten hardly by China in 05 FIBA-Asia is not changed so much. even Korea team add some good players like Ha SeungJin. that shows importance of prerare)

p.s some guys put Korea down to Japan. I really can't understand. We never lost to Japan for 10 years in senior A match. And even we sucked in recent years, we alway had better place than Japan, and beat Japan more than 10 points(06 asian games). Maybe blind for Japan's money power?

2. RP
First time I put RP and Lebanon placed same as 2nd, but RP is more dangerous for Korea I think. RP prepares well for competition when they want. And RP players knows how to play basketball. They have absolutely has good 1 on 1 skills. But their problem is height. With only Asi, they can't stop top centers/PFs in Asia. But they also has good 1 on 1 defence, so I gave them 2nd place. But some times they lost so easily(like 3/4 place match in 02 ABC), they need consistancy.

3. Lebanon
They will miss 2 good players(Brian Bashara, and the guy 206-PF/C-68..can't remember his name), comepare to 04 WC. They had important role in their team. So their absent is so bad for Lebanon.
And same as Korea, with no prepare, Lebanon shows bad results.(06 Asian Games).
But they still have Khatib and Fahed, and some good players.
Beat France is not a easy thing, they have still good powers and chances.. Their powerful plays will give hard time for Asian teams.

4. Qatar
Has some good players. but need more teamworks. and also sometimes ruin games easily.(maybe they have PG problems. Daoud Daoud is not pure PG)

5. China B
Good size but too young and has not enough skills. They don't have experince compare to above teams, so that could be crucial.

6/7/8/9/10/1. Japan, Iran, Chinese Taipei, Syria, Kazakhstan, Jordan

Frankly speaking, my top 3 has so little gap for me. conditions and referee's call can make another result. But if we prepare well, I guarantee that we can get 1 direct ticket for olympic.(hope RP or Lebanon or Qatar get another ticket in wild card competiton.) I think, Lebanon plays strong to Euro teams(compare to Korea strong to Latin teams)(cuz Lebanon plays like Europe teams), so they have more chance to grab the ticket in wild card competiton.

NICE ANALYSIS BRISTON! ;)

Welcome aboard bristron to the forum of bball talk.

nice analysis on your end. drink a shot of sochu for me on my behalf!

u Lebanon guys make so may excuses for your team,
so I think, maybe I need excuses for my team..

Korea and Lebanon meet 4times in Fiba-Asia,
and has same 2 win and 2 lost.
(who said leb win more???)

my excuses..

99 ABC Lebanon win Korea.
but Korea had 2nd place and Lebanon had 7th? place.
Fans in here, believes that we lost to Lebanon on prupose to meet China in Final.
Korea team didn't want to show our secret tactics for China in earliy games.
(in 99 ABC final, Korea team showed long tempo games, so game score become low)

01 ABC we easily beat Lebanon in earliy games as expected. and in semi-final, referee problem makes Lebanon's victory. referee calls ridiculous calls. I'm still strongly believe that is to help lebanon(After Lebanon and China fight,
China had to give some cost for Lebanon cuz China's players did bad behaviors)
And 01 ABC, our PGs are not 1st grade.(Compare to 02 Asian Game, we win 1st place, our top PGs like Lee SangMin and Kim SeungHyun was not in there.)

03 Fiba-Asia, we also don't have our top center Seo JangHoon, SF Chun Hee Chul(97 ABC's MVP) .If your team in 03 was B team, our team in 03 was also B team. But Vogel, Fahed, Khoury.. still key players of Lebanon was there.

06 Asian games,
Fadi played 35min and 40min when Lebanon lost to Japan and Kazakhstan.
(while Bang Sung Yoon played only 1 games more than 5 min)
we sucked in that competition for some excuses but by beat Qatar, showed we have still have powers.
And beat Japan more than 10 point while Lebanon lost to Japan.

Dear briston,i think you didn't read my post vlaski said that S.korea is much better than lebanon.my question is what's the arguments to say that?? in my last post i declare that lebanese NT And korean Nt is tied 2-2.So re-back to my post and see what i'm saying!
One more time Guys, stop saying which national team is strongest than others asian NTs! we want just to present our NTs and give ur thinking about Asian championship 2007.

Nice analysis briston,i think you are the only who give a pure analysis, but still my choice is different than u.
And about Top 4 asian teams,i think lately to declare our choices because we didn't see at the moment any asian NTs,so after Asian cup for clubs i'll give my opinion specially that,in asia 2007 for clubs we will see for the first time RP team, Jordanian team ,Kazakhstan team, also we will see the new 3 Syrian-Brazilian players.

Note:Don't forget that in asian champinship we will see a new strong team like syria, jordan, iran and japan...don't be fastly in ur choices.

the 1968 206 is paul khoury , i dont think he even plays anymore since his injury last year just b4 the WBC , + i think hes a bit old now......but who told u that brian beshara is not gonna play with the NT ?

In a news about Lebanese NT,Coach Fouad abou Chacra and he said that will not be with the NT this summer because he will undergo a back surgery .
Also New tv a lebanese channel revealed that there are problems between FAC and Tannous concerning the formation of the technical staff and other issues.

I feel sorry about this decision!!

common briston south korea cant be better than lebanon....leb has been to the last 2 WBCs 2002 and 2006 , and the reason why south korea doesnt go anymore is because now leb is going everytime along with china.....so we can say since leb got better in 2001 , south korea isnt going to the WBC anymore which means lebanon took their place as 2nd in asia and now qatar is 3rd...i think the rankings in 2005 ABC are the 1s which the teams are ranked now....leb doesnt do well when the tournamants mean nthng to us like in ABC 2003(4th) and asian games(9th) cuz in 2003 china obviously was the olympics qualifier and the asian games meant nothing us , we just went cuz qatar insisted everyone knows that......

Haha,funny!!!!

The Philippines has obtained the world third good result, but that only was appears briefly!! Even the very many Asian fans all did not know at all, also does not acknowledge!! But our China NT enters eight strong topics repeatedly at the Olympic Games and the international championship then often loves to talk about by the Asian fan discussion!! This is two team's biggest difference!! Does not have the inside story team is impossible to dominate for a long time Asian Basketball world!! Moreover also asks you Philippine not to have always to say our China NT dominates Asia is for a long time because they repeatedly have not sent out the strongest PBA player to participate(that is biggest fun!!!)!! But in 1998 the Asian Games we the Chinese men's basketball team has won at the semi-final by A lvin Patrimonio, Allan Caidic, Johnny the Abarrientos leading signer Philippines team of 8 minutes hundred year dream!!

You more emphasized the past the glory more showed your reality the helpless! As far as I know the Philippine basketball besides the dirty petty action on only then the pitiful speed, and You only can depend upon the hybrid member, does not have the height, does not have the technology…We may dominate at least Asia, later we also will be the world crack force, but you forever only could live in the past recollection! ~ I sympathize with you

You such match simply is not worth respecting!!!Because you have not respected the match the tutelage

Last to you:I am thinking what should i say when CHINA b team beat you...and what will you say ...hahaha!!!!you 'll never win!You do not match make our Rival!!!Asian two-three class team

Please brush up on your grammar. I only understood the second paragraph. Yes that was yesteryears that our country was on the podium, but don't underestimate the Philippines. Much like the USA NT, we are starting to learn from our past mistakes.

Welcome back, Bristron! We've been missing your sensible and sober hoops insights for quite awhile now.

You're right about the the top spot being anybody's ballgame and any of the 3favored teams -- Korea, Lebanon and RP -- can pull one over the other on any given night; with Qatar, Japan and China Team B capable of springing a surprise. Japan especially will come with all guns blazing; they have a lot of pride.

You also hit the spot with regards to RP's strengths and weaknesses. Our lack of consistency can be attributed partly to a lack of mental toughness (which in turn is a result of a lack of international experience and playing together). Mental toughness in this case is not just about "swagger" and confidence (which we have in abundance) but also focus, concentration and on-game discipline. By playing more competitive games together, though, I hope we can correct this.

This is something we can learn from Korea, in particular your discipline in executing game plans and your "no excuses" attitude. Mental toughness indeed!

Our players, on the other hand, still have a tendency to relax or lose focus in short bursts -- but we can't afford this in FIBA-Asia, where 1 good run is enough to make or break a game. While we have a solid heart and fighting spirit, it is important to convert this into intense focus, which is an area for improvement.

1. China
2. Philippines
3. Lebanon
4. Korea

5. Qatar
6. Iran
7. Jordan
8. Japan
9. Chinese Taipei
10. Kazakhstan

since China will not be sending Yao Ming and its Team A, i think it's a wide open race and anybody can win this tournament.

Jordan is becoming a threat, Lebanon is still strong as ever, Qatar keeps on getting more reinforcements, South Korea is unpredictable, and our Team Pilipinas is excited and upbeat.

i have a question, has the Lebanon NT started practicing and who will be in the lineup?

if only we had the money to naturalize Baron Davis and play for the RP Team. hehe, kidding.

actually, i'm quite wary of South Korea.

they still are a very strong team despite their recent decline.

i believe the South Korean NT will be visiting the Philippines this June, not sure yet.

You still didn't get it do you???

i am not living in the past achievements of our NT. The point is, i am just showing to these guys that if we were able to make it to the top before, we can make it happen again. I am not saying that we are the best team in asia right now... not yet... may be after this asian championship.

i know what's happening in the arab basketball because im staying in this oil reach land for two years now... and watching their brand of basketball and ours allow me to compare and give assesment on which team could perform well in the upcoming asian chamionship. In this part of the world - arab region... basketball is still way too long to go before it could level the kind of love and the brand of game we are playing in the philippines...

the sudden rise of lebanon and qatar in international basketball is cannot be credited fully to the development of sports in their respective countries... it's because of the naturalized players.

I am just wondering what if the FIBA didn't imposed a ban on us... and we were able to play in international competitions with our Class A players? What would it be??? would there be lebanon and qatar in the WBC???

It's a two year ban... a lot of things could have happened if we were allowed to play...

No man Lebanon has only vogel naturalized(1 player being naturalized is totally legal)qatar has 11 and they naturalized a center called mamadou last week , his new name is mohammad yasmine :)

all i can say is that, take out the god dam powerhouse (china), and this tournament is going to be really fun!

p.s. why do i keep on pressing the "go advance" button? grrr

The SEABA Game

The SEABA Game

A breeze or an ambush awaits SMC-Team Philippines in Ratchaburi, Thailand as it plays the host team, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore in a single-round, no-final competition to dispute the SEABA men's championship from May 24-28.

The Nationals take opening-day bye on the 24th, then tackle Singapore on the 25th, Malaysia on the 26th, Indonesia on the 27th and Thailand on the 28th.

The team with the best record after the single round robin is automatically declared the champion. Ties will be resolved by the quotient system of tiebreak.

"The schedule and the format of competition obviously were designed to favor the host team. They scheduled us to play four straight games with them as our final opponent. They're looking for an ambush," said PBA commissioner Noli Eala.

PBA coaches say the host apparently is thinking that's the best way to upset the Philippines, resigned to the fact that they can't beat the Filipinos twice.

But coach Junel Baculi, a new addition to coach Chot Reyes' staff, believes there's no way the all-pro RP team can be beaten in SEABA.

The Nationals can't afford not to win the SEABA championship as it serves as the qualifier among Southeast Asian countries for the FIBA-Asia championship in Tokoshima, Japan in July.

The team warms up for SEABA and the FIBA-Asia Championship as it leaves tomorrow for Tehran, Iran for the Fiba-Asia Champions Cup from May 12-22.

"We're not going to Tehran to win. We're going there to get better," said RP team coach Chot Reyes on his decision not to exercise their right to play with an import in the Champions Cup.

Twelfth man Enrico Villanueva, accompanied by RP team assistant coach Nash Racela, follows the RP team in Tehran right after Red Bull's out-of-town game in Cebu versus San Miguel Beer Saturday.

Right after the Red Bull-San Miguel game, Villanueva takes the 9:30 p.m. Cebu Pacific flight to Manila then tries to catch the 12:20 a.m. Emirates Air to Tehran.

Still uncertain is Villanueva's stint in the SEABA men's championship.

The Thais, who have reportedly recruited two Thai-American players, could well offer the toughest challenge to the Nationals in SEABA. They didn't expose their recruits as they opted not to play in the recent SEABA Champions Cup in Jakarta.

THis news is one of the reason I put Korea on top of the other team in asia. I guess korea will surprise its opponents in the asian games with their new players. Korea knows how to play good basketball, and they love surprises... they have proven it a couple of times before against china and philippines...

I am worried about the koreans because they know how to scout the philippine team... and they are really prepared to play against us. Korea can beat Lebanon, japan and Qatar... and even philippines with their new team. They always been an explosive team and i am expecting them to be a lot more better this coming Fiba asia champ. But before that, the SEABA which is the qualifying for the FIBA ASIA.

Dont you know what's happening in international basketball????
we were banned by FIBA for 2 years... how do you expect us to play??? misinformed or no information at all????

Where is your brain???

the reason why you are sending Team B is because you dont need to play hard and win just to be eligible to play for 2008 beijing Olympics. As a host nation you are already qualified.

Your NT is avoiding to be scouted by other teams...especially Philippines... ask your coach which teams they are most weary to play against??? hehehe and you will get the answer...

Chinese Teipei is good but not good enough to paly our TEAM A... remember that we were sending Team C & D in most of the international competitions where we were in the losing end...

Taipei is not the team to beat in asia... it's your team china... we will see you in the finals.... mark my word...

YOur team has nothing to brag... yours is up to asia only...

Please don‘t too arrogant vlaski,please look at this video,is this your“Basketball power”??Funny!~

Thank you for showing your "uncontrolled behaviour" in court.

The referee could have called a foul against our player but look what your Big Zebra looking guy did to our player... a traitor's act... what a loser... just because of a could have been fouled backs out... he put his damn fist to this guy...fighting behind his back is not something to be proud of CHINA TEAM.

Though i don't know these guys... i mean our players... i guess they are from Class C or D team...

Don't be too sensitive when i ask for your achievements in World Basketball...
Just show something else... okay???

Ohhhh may be you've got nothing to show off... so you picked this video instead hoping to put us in shame... but the video tells us otherwise...hehehe... oh man... sometimes you have to use your brain...

Hope next time you do.....hehehehe....
