2026 FIBA U18 Asia Cup

Black should be the Batang Gilas coach so he can pass his knowledge of bball to the next gen. Remember his Burlington basketball tips segment during PBA broadcasts?

Kai Patton
James Sanderson
Jordan Mize
(lowkey hoping lol)
Trey Pinkard
Daniel Johnson
(would get passport next week as per ZB)
Quali Giran (still 15 years old, would assume going to be eligible since he still. has 3 years)
Blaze Johnson (same as Giran)
Harrison Jones (still has time)

consideration:

Brian Stevenson
Tyler Merto

Sam Alegre (U16 2023)

pretty sure I am still missing out on a few prospects i just forgot, but these are the ones that I can recall.

like I said, the SBP can pull off a U16 2022 part 2, and voila, we are secured for another decade.

locals that probably does not suck as our previous U16 2025:

Prince Carino (got exposed, but just can't deny the potential)
Mark Dulin
Patrick Pasinos
Ziv Espinas
Chog Moral
(lol)
Tyler Reyes/Owen Calanasan/Andwil Yap (another year of hoping that they would improve to atleast get a sure spot in final 12)
Man, we have all these prospects just for Tenorio to go all Filipino come the tournament, I would be pissed lol. Imagine not learning from the disaster of a tournament we had during the U16s. Hopefully, those prospects mentioned by coach Norman Black during the Las Vegas showcase would at least be available for tryouts. I recall him mentioning the likes of Jordan Mize, Kainoa Patton, Hunter Caplan and Chase Robertson as the standouts.

As for our locals, aside from the mentioned, UE big man 6'9" Eion Braga deserves a look as well as their PG 6'1" Roquid. I expect Prince Carino to make the line-up together with FEU boys Pasinos and Dulin. Skeptical on Owen Calanasan though if he really is batang gilas material aside from his height, hopefully he'll pan out. Moral could also make the cut depending on the availability of our D1-bound fil-am guards.

yeah, i forgot about Chase Robertson, eligible too.

Hunter Caplan is one of the best players for that FANS team too.

Some wont for sure but some will hit. The reality of being a prospect. That being said, D1 kids are just better prospects. They are against better competition for one.
Well, we just have to play the probabilities eh. If we are talking not just Fil-am prospects for our youth national teams but more importantly same prospects for future Gilas senior team team then the more Fil-am prospects we have the higher the chance of ending up with a good No. of Fil-ams that would really be impact players for the national team. I mean, if we only have 1 or 2 Fil-am prospects, chances are maybe none of them will pan out. But if we have 5 or 6 Fil-am prospects, there is almost a certain chance that at least 2 or 3 of them would be as good as a Dwight Ramos, or a Danny Seigle or a QMB or an AJ Edu or a Kelly Williams or a Marcio Lassiter. Parang sumali ka sa raffle dyan eh in which more entries you have the better chances of winning.

imagine if these d1 players dont live up to the hype..lol
What's the chance that these Fil-am kids would turn our to be duds while the locals or homegrown talents would be the ones who will excel?

Nothing is certain in this world. We just have to play the probabilities.

He is legit. My point was that social media stars can make it.
Yup. Got it bro.

but just to add, STML wasnt technically a product of social media like FB, TikTok or IG, simply because he predates them. but he got "viral" and hyped because of those And1 mix tapes and videos. But yeah, same shit but different media.

Anyway, the Professor is having a longer lifespan than Rafer in terms of relevancy, he was his contemporary from And1, stuck around, and still is somewhat known nowadays, but when NBA pros were asked if The Professor had a chance in the league, they all agreed not a chance.

I can compare Chag Moral to pro boxer Ryan Garcia. Ryan is good enough in the pros, but he is nowhere near his reputation in the socials.

I mean, a D1 reject is even better than our local stars here.

Imagine this: Kiefer Alas, the UAAP Juniors MVP and the best 2007-born player in the country, cannot even sniff five minutes per game on a U.S. high school team. This is a team where the best player is committed to a low-major D1 school. They do have another player with high-major offers, but that is beside the point.

If the best local player in the country cannot do anything on a powerhouse high school team, even one that is not the best in the U.S., what makes us think a local player would be better in the long run than a D1 reject or someone with actual D1 experience?

Andy had to go to Canada just to get a chance, but to be fair to him, he did show up for Veritas when he played. That is unlike Kiefer, who has only played three games and is averaging one minute per game, even though his team has already played around 20 games. At this point, I do not even know if he is still with the team, since he is not on the bench when I try to watch their games.

I think it depends on the D1 school and the position of the players. D1 guards talent gap isn’t that far from our superstars. The gap starts at the bigger positions.

Depends, if its a D1 bust like Schonny Winston then yes the gap aint really there but if its a hit like Sedrick Barefield? Then that is big. That being said, most D1 busts are worthy of Gilas consideration. Thats just our level.
