2026 Asian Games - Aichi--Nagoya

@reamily

as we all know OCA was all about passport and must have reside in the country for at least 3 years.

same wisdom with FIBA.

it's not all about bloodline nor heritage but based on hard copy and documentation.

Yup , but how can we able to proof dicumentation of residency if they cant provide that passport is done 3 years ago.. only because they play in pba..
But again no social.media in 2000, and if basketball was popular in asia we wouñd be reidiculed that we exploited a rule to our advantage..

Basketball glory takes time, I never thought we wouñd in an asian games in a perennial contenders home.court (China), although korea has better record at home.

It just when the chinese ibner( forgot his account) emphasized that asian basketball is a game of "homecourts", china all these years prevented korea from.hosting any asian championships.. the last window proves us why..that myth of china as asian powerhouse was alrwady broken in my eyes thus korean curse given the "homecourt records of both teams"

European teams during the 60's(?) 70's and 80's are parading naturalized players more than one

same thing with Oceania teams they paraded several non-oceania players during those time.

South American teams has done the same thing.

as far as numero uno USA Basketball during the 70's they paraded Ernest Grunfeld of Romania in 1976 Olympics

the 90's and 2k's the likes of Patrick Ewing of Jamaica, the dream Hakeem of Nigeria, Tim Duncan of Carribean Island

and recently Joel Embid of Cameroon played for Uncle Sam as well.

whatever reason or justification why they choose there adopted country instead of their birth place

the bottomline here it's a reality even during those days.

it's just that here in Asia it started late, only the late Boss Danding has the audacity to copy what those western are doing during the early 80's

and Japan are starting to do the same thing in the late 80(?). 90's and until now.

But this is the starting lineup of Philippines if all stakeholders got together

Asi
Menk
Sonny
Danny
Olsen

Bench
Chris clay
Rob Parker
Rudy Hatfield - might be cut for andy
Jeff Flowers
Kenneth
Dondon
Dennis

This team is deep as as you can sound

this would be able to face China. of course, it would be an uphill battle with Yao Ming as the biggest obstacles but this team would have a boxer's chance against the Great Wall.

A lot of slashing and drop off are needed in the game to make yao in foul trouble..

I might replace Jeff Flowers with James Walkvist or Mick Pennisi, bigs who can shoot outside.

Flowers is an erratic poor man's version of Taulava. He relies mainly on power which where Asi and Menk thrived. I would even choose Ildefonso over him.
But andy seigle was too...but its dennis espino is our best pf and asi too.. if jeff was serviceable

How did Andy Seigle come out in the equation? I'm not even talking about him. My point is, we would have needed bigs who can shoot outside to to bring out Yao and the rest of the bigs of China out of the shaded lane.

Asi developed his 3 point shot in 2002... Janes walkvist cant even.push mike hrabak what more seo jang hoon ( before beating china we have to hurdle koreans)..the best big outside of asi os already dennis espino and extent mick pennisi but im only basing on jong tendencies where penissi wasnt even considered making the lineup.up until the danny seigle injury..

I remember James Walkvist parading his girl flaunting her Mt. Mayon and Mt. Kanlaon everytime a broadcast camera spotted her.

no wonder the late Ed "rib tickling" Pingson and Dr. J can't help smirkin' combine with cough bec. they're biting their Grandpa tongue

not to say something naughty during live broadcast.

man!! those are the days in my dirty squatters worn out tsinelas, a kid who loves watching the game in our old dilapidated black and white device.

it's not all about bloodline nor heritage but based on hard copy and documentation.

So based on OCA rules players Scuba Holt, Zavier Lucero, Mike Phillips and even Malick Diouf if naturalisation papers completed can play but the likes of Barefield, Remy Martin, Boogie Ellis, Kihei Clark, Kamaka Hepa, Kymani Ladi and even Jason Brickman can’t.

Off- topic: Reports circulated that Zamboanga Valientes are augmenting their personnel for Dubai International tournament. They secured commitment from former NBA no.1 draft pick Anthony Bennett; returnees Sam Deguara and Malick Diouf; Terence Romeo and MPBL Finals MVP Jason Brickman. This looks formidable crew than last year’s edition. And they can be a good sparring partner for Gilas in preparation for FIBA 2nd window…

Valientes is not yet complete and if they are hell- bent to compete it would be good idea if they ring Mike Phillips, Kymani Ladi or Remy Martin for this short gig.

Strong Group Athletics reportedly begged off to participate with said tournament. Yeah, after controversial referee calls last year’s tourney.

And speaking of Jason Brickman it seems that he has not signed yet for Meralco…

They called in their first practice. Glimpses of Gregzilla and Vic Manuel are visible…

Sir Fil,

Lucero, Philips, and Malick is a sure thing bec. they've already satisfied that 3 year residency rule. Article 53: 2. b to c

as for Barefield, Martin and Brickman they are in the boundary level, it now depends on how the interpretation of the below provision

considering they've been in and out of the country during those times.

Article 53: Necessary Conditions for representing a Country

2. Competitors will be eligible if they comply with the following qualifications:
b. That they are nationals or citizens of the country they represent and have lived there continuously for a period of not less than 3 years.
c. That they have become naturalized in the country they represent and have permanent residence there.

as for Ellis and Clark unless they've establish a permanent residence here a long time ago during off-season from their respective D1 and club teams.

as for Hepa the only recorded stay was during his NBTC days but after that no available data was available.

as for Ladi he hasn't satisfied that 3 year residency.

off-topic:

actually it's not really an off-topic as a whole.

I've already mentioned this before.

PSC and POC should also focus not only provide a competitive financial package and nutrition

but also it's the mental preparedness because that's a critical part if you are dealing with a formidable opponent

and your aiming for that high level.

in short, mental conditioning is very much necessary and critical in preparing our athletes for future battles ahead.

there's a classic saying, " Sports is 90 percent Mental and 10 Percent Physical".

therefore hiring a Sports Psychology is a must not only tapping World Champion coaches and World class Nutritionist.

I really do hope our sports officials are lurking around this thread and the video was televised in Live Broadcast several days ago.

this the complete interview that I've mentioned awhile ago..

I really do hope concern on mental toughness should be address on all our elite athletes moving forward.

it's really an eye opener to all our sports officials.

Espino for me is the best player during the 1998 AG and a vital cog in the 2002 edition together with Asi, although the latter was not known for his shooting. The best shooting bigs during this time were Pennisi and Walkvist. Jeff Flowers? There are other deserving players than him. I don't even remember him playing in the PBA.
