2026 Asian Games - Aichi--Nagoya

Prime Asi was second only to Yao Ming as Asia's best center at that time. He was running and was very agile then. Of course. Yao Ming destroyed him when they met.

I'd re-watched the Japan - PHL game in the same tourney. Mikaeru Takahashi and Orimo vs Prime Asia and Cariaso. Prime Asi was running and dunking, and was a beast in the paint. I think Prime JMF will have a hard time defending against Prime Asi.

Cariaso was the last cut both in '94 and '98. He was like the only player in the Kazakhstan game who gave a damn after the trauma against South Korea and almost pulled off a '98 Jolas... but ran out of time.

Prime Asi was more 2003-2004 when he got leaner and developed a jumper, the only people who could stop him were all the refs on SMC's payroll. Before that, he was basically a 6'8 bulldozer.

China still has NBAers Wang Zhizhi and Bateer Menk during that time, but I think Asi overtook big Korean center Seo Jang-hoon as Asia's top Non-Chinese center in that fateful Korea-PHL game.

It's eras. Early 2000's, 6'8 for a center (even in Asia with Yao, Wang, and Bateer ) was severely undersized... like Malik Rose or Jahidi White. Seo was getting injury-prone and would soon be replaced by Ha (in the juniors) who was like 6'11 as a teen and grew to be 7'3.

asi was better than wang and bateer during his prime. wang had skills but not the strength. bateer had the bulk and strength but not the agility and skills. too bad for asi that yao had the height, skills, and strength to dominate asi.

Seo Janghoon - Hold my beer.. he was decent enough and skilfull enough but Asi such a work horse..and was an underrated small ball 5 to be honest..His weakness shot blocking and interior defense in this lkevel shouldnt be a disadvantage if Jong Uichico somehow unlocked small ball defense that time..

what is severely lacking then until now among our players is free throw shooting. I miss the shooting touch of our locals from the 1970s and 80s.

People can shoot 100 percent in free throws...if they can on ly stand up on tje court the whole time are in they in a court try to run 4 laps then try shoot a free theow see if accuracy is still.there

hindsight.

that Lee Sang Min dagger will always be part of my childhood history.

just imagine if the likes of Asi/Menk/Alvarado manning that frontline during that time.

with Ildefonso/Hatfield/Espino.

Seigle/Parker/Clay/Hontiveros as our wingmen

with Rara/Abbarientos manning the PG spot.

we never know what dogfight it might have been between China, South Korea, Philippines and Japan during that 2K era.

Good 3rd place?.. The cambodia of asia 20 years before hehe

Jong was utterly depressed by that loss.
Jong had one time-out left and didnt use it. He could have called a time-out after Olsen missed the first, He could have calmed his troops down, ( they were all very emotional, and super pumped up, with the impending win) and instructed his players what to do if Olsen miss another one, or if he makes it.

Jong probably was looking at it in Olsen's POV,as a player himself he probably been in those many situations,he went all in and rolled the dice and it came up "snake eyes".
