2025 SEA Games

The SEA games record never really mattered that much. What made the Chot silver medal so bitter is that it was Wright, Pogoy, Tautuaa and Fajardo that lost that game instead of Francis Lopez and Wil Navarro. Bullshit short-sighted loss that only came with humiliation and no long term development

Chot was right that it was his fault, I'd never blame the players. Putting veterans like Wright and Fajardo to experience a humiliating defeat like that in a poorly assembled team instead of younger players is like feeding your military general low grade dog food instead of feeding their replacements.

A full force Indonesian game narrowly defeating the team that Tab sent to the King Abdullah Cup would never have been remembered and used as a boogeyman for this long. Pinoy fans would probably even be giving the Indo team props to this day instead of trashtalking them

i've mentioned this from the other thread.

the ideal lineup for next year's SEAG must be composed of young ineligibles that has a chance to be exempted moving forward.

maybe adding Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, Mason Amos and AK34 from our Team A is just a fair game

plus QMB, Barefield, Balti, Lucero, Datu, Kai Balunggay, Ken Tuffin, Schonny, Stockton, Mike Philips, BGR

with Stephen Holt and DJ Fenner as an insurance, despite not having a chance to get exempted as per previous discussions(from the other threads)

we cannot deny the international talent level of this 2 hafus and somehow be our "panapat" to the notorious Thai hafus like Lamb, Morgan bros and Lish

my wishful thinking Kamaka Hepa and Remy Martin

those lads that I've mentioned will be competitive enough up to 2026 Asian Games as well.

interesting about next edition of the SEAG, is the what if's:

1. what if Vietnam gets the approval and paraded the likes of Juzang of the Utah Jazz and Jaylin Williams of OKC plus those line-up from their 2017 SEAG

2. what if INA paraded the likes of Prosper, Diagne DMX and Beane alongside Jawato, Grahita as part of their "resbak" line-up

3. what if Cambodia paraded again those naturalized dudes alongside that notorious Cam-Am who schooled our guards during that Cambodia SEAG

man oh man!! 2025 SEAG mens basketball event would be a dandy to watch.

I felt that the only positive contributors on that rotation against Indonesia were June Mar, the Ravena brothers, Wright, and maybe Troy. Montalbo and Pogoy didn't have much of a positive impact. Navarro and Tungcab could have helped more, honestly.

In my opinion the SBP should just tap the talented collegiate players to form a team for the SEA games

CENTERS:
QMB
Ange Kouame (Naturalized player)
Mike Phillips

FORWARDS:
Mason Amos
VJ Pre
Francis Lopez
Jacob Bayla

GUARDS
JD Cagulangan
Clint Escamis
Jake Figueroa
Tony Ynot
Nic Cabanero

Yes for development. But would the general public accept it if we lose in SEA? They would crucify the kids online.

My suggestion is to form a team composed of the following.

4 Top College Prospects
2 Top High School Prospects
5 PBA Players
1 Naturalized Player (Kouame)

I don't think they will. Chot losing was an embarrassment because we lost with A LOT of PBA players in the team.

Besides, our collegiate still has the chance to either win or keep the game close.

And if they are getting PBA players, they should get those who are NOT the elites of the PBA.

It's an open secret that the SEA Games is a tournament is often adjusted to favor the host country (we also do this). We really should not put too much weight on it.

Maybe, as the senior team win games against more elite teams, people will start paying NO attention that much to SEA Games basketball. IMO, it's more prestigious to win or get close against legit teams like Latvia, New Zealand, Serbia, Georgia than winning over "reinforced" Thailand or Cambodia.

Forming a team for next year’s SEA Games will be a huge challenge on SBP as the event will fall- in the midway of 2025-26 Commissioner’s Cup and EASL campaigns. And UAAP would be in the Final 4 by then. Korea’s KBL and Japan’s B.league are ongoing. Headache in calling available players that won’t conflict their respective leagues’ schedules. The only player I think that won’t have problem will be Kouame

Moreover the Thais who will be hosting maybe parading all- out and full-gear. Expect their heritage players like Martin Breunig, Tra Holder, Tyler Lamb, Moses Morgan and Freddie Lish to suit up plus its homegrown star Chanatip Jakrawan. And if their federation will decide to tap a naturalised player then definitely a nightmare for us in our quest to defend the crown.

It's the Commissioner's Cup that bothers me. This means to get PBA vets, they have to shortly pause the PBA again

Then again, I don't think it's much glory for a reinforced Thailand to beat a Team C collegiate team.

The other option is MPBL players. Lol

Isn't Tyler Lamb also playing overseas now?

Sir Art,

just let those young ineligibles but had a strong chance to get an exemption to play on this tournament.

then were good.

same thing on 2026 AG a mix of our A-team plus ineligibles.

There is no exemption in SEA Games. Why do you think Cambodia's basketball team were mostly mercenaries?

Also, talented ineligibles deserve better than SEA Games competition

Not sure but does playing for the NT even in non FIBA events carry any weight when applying for an exemption?

Another option for SEA Games crew make-up is form an all-rookie team to consists PBA class 2025 plus Kouame and perhaps Brownlee….

Non-FIBA tournies don't have fixed rules. They have the choice to follow FIBA or not. The SGA team is even like half (aging) import, half Filipino.

An option are the near-retirement from basketball players who are no longer "serviceable" to play in FIBA games. Lol

Problem is, SBP is mandated to follow the directions of POC. If POC wants sure gold, then SBP needs to adhere to it. I dont think it's solely up to SBP or its Project Director to decide who to send or not.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I mean it would certainly look good on our ineligibles' resume to have played for our NT even in non FIBA events when applying for their exemption? Dunno if that would help their case

Sir weird,
cc: Sir Art,

even though it is not literally(?) encoded word by word the sentence "strong domestic connection" on the existing FIBA playbook

unless some active IBNers provide us a newly revised official copy

then I'm extremely happy that I will be corrected.

as we read the existing playbook "the wisdom" of strong domestic connection are very much indicated on any paragraph

in fact, I just read one provision in Chapter 1: Eligibility, National Status and Availability of Players - ELIGIBILITY OF PLAYERS
7. Players who participate in professional leagues must be registered with organization that are affiliated to a National Member Federation; OTHERWISE THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITIONS OF FIBA.

that is only one of those many provisions that has that wisdom that I'm talking.

"playing as a local" in a domestic league has a very strong merits, hands down

but as an added fortress to that merit, playing in a FIBA sanctioned tourney like 3x3 or FIBA- Asia Champions Club, I dunno if EASL is a FIBA sanctioned.

even though SEAG and Asian Games is not a direct sanctioned but we all know the referees and other tech. personnel are under the FIBA umbrella

in fact, the official uniform of the referees had an official "FIBA" logo on the upper part of their tees.

additionally, playing in the collegiate level, semi-pro like PBA D-League, MPBL, Sinag Asya, Fil-Basket, among others are also part of that merits as well.
