Rumor is, Balciunas offering NT head coach post to Kurtinaitis...

Not sure I'm a fan of that. Not idea that to think about it. He had some amazing success giving all possible freedom to Chuck Eidson. The game plan to give all possible freedom to Jakucionis and Buzelis?

He would bring more discipline and kinda old school values...that's good. But as a specialist I think he's way outdated. He doesn't grasp the game detailed enough just as Maksvytis and maybe even more. On other hand, maybe Kurtinaitis would have more balls defining proper roles. Maksvytis was pathetic at this. Like random redneck "fizrukas" just made mediocre most pathetic decisions. I liked how Kurtinaitis made 20yo or so Gecas the leader of Rytas. Dude had balls to do that. Maybe he would have balls to unleash Jakucionis and Buzelis at the right time (like instantly, flat out).

On other hand, Kurtinaitis kept Kalnietis, Pocius, Janavicius aside NT in 2009 and took some cringey Mazutis, Jomantas...But it was mainly Butautas...Butautas is typical "Maksvytis". The redneck with "fizrukas" mindset. He would make the most pathetic decisions. He would take fucking Lukauskas, but would not unleash 19yo Buzelis :D Hate that kind of Lithuanian coaching scrubs, simply hate. Idiots.

So, it's a bit tricky, and more like NO to me, but I have to say it's would also be interesting to have Kurtinaitis in the NT.

We are anyway fucked because of having to choose between mediocre Lith coaches. So, it's meh if it's Kurtinaitis, Zibenas or whoever else.

ATM, to me Kurtinaitis > Zibenas. Kurtinaitis nevertheless is respected old school dude. And I think Kurtinaitis has more guts to make some brave decisions, defining the roles looking at players abilities and not age.

I'm sorry, but Javtokas answers are ridiculous. He has no idea what's he's doing, what he's going to do, he has no vision, no ideas, no power, nothing. It's almost cringey and this guy has to beat pro active Balciunas.

NT coach candidates is maybe uleb level , federation main head is more interested in stealing money than results, NT didnt have even one elite perimeter player last 15 years and most ltu fans still living in world where LTU NT ale is top 4 team :)

Lithuanian basketball overall becoming funny from all perspectives

Such generalizations are funny.

Lithuania is 6th in Europe FIBA ranking. Ahead 1 Serbia, 2 Germany, 3 France, 4 Spain, 5 Latvia.

Lithuania is not becoming funny. Lithuania is blessed to have such level players as Buzelis and Jakucionis again.

To me it's funny to hear all these speculations. You need 1-2 game changers, those who would bring wins. Even USA in 2028 the way their talent shapes, will have issues, cause they don't have their next obvious Kobe, Lebron, KD, Curry level players.

All this money, system, infrastructure, coaching level is important, but it comes down to the main thing - exceptional players. We were broke in 1992, but we had Rooney, Sabas, Kurtinaitis, Karsis and they carried us to the medal. We had no BB school, no courts, no money, nothing. Yet we had Sabas and Rooney, boom.

I like Spanish example the most. They have the best or second best BB school in the world, but they don't have next Pau, not even next Rubio. And they are in trouble in this very moment. They don't have next special player.

It all comes down to this. Lihuania is blessed to have Buzelis and KJ.

LTU basketball has no busts of such level prospects. It doesn't mean it can't happen, but highly unlikely.

The question is if they can carry a team or not. Every of those countries you mentioned above have player who are the best players in their NBA teams or one of the top three at least.

The next question is if their skill set can compensate the weaknesses of the team. There is a looong way to go.

You're way too preoccupied with LTU basketball situation and lust to be on the down side of it :D It's pretty funny. I can only say this. Turkey will never be as Lithuania. Never. It's not basketball country, you don't have history, the list of special players is extremely short and even some better stretch is unlikely. There's huge countries as Turkey, Russia, Poland, Norway, Sweden, UK that you can never make BB countries of them. Your inner competition with Lithuania and other traditional powerhouses is intrinsically inadequate. You'll never have what we have in BB.

You are right. We will be way better.

You were saying that about Kazys Maksvytis until he passed over some of your favourite youngsters. Then you began condemning him in the strongest terms.

Validating your personal preferences isn't part of the coach's job description you know.

:(

Yeah, just like you are now with 1 medal in history, no Olympic games and 27th FIBA rating. No-one cares about no-body in basketball Turkey. That's all.

We will probably use a naturalized. Its not clear so I cant give you a clarifying answer.

That's not a good standpoint to be optimistic about NT anywhere soon. Naturalization leads to medals super rarely.
