with all the money in the world countries like China and Japan do not naturalize NBA level players though except for China last world cup but didn't end up well because having an NBA level of naturalize player is high maintenance and NBA do not adjust their schedule for fiba qualifying tournaments, so i don't see these countries going for NBA level naturalized player but instead those players that play as an import in their domestic leagues, even European countries don't naturalize NBA level talent, they produce NBA level talent

with their budget and the influx of world-level imports playing in the BLeague they for sure can identify a player that fits their system and is significantly better than Josh Hawkinson. Once that happens they become formidable in the region. Yudai Baba, Rui Hachimura, Yuki Kawamura, Keisei Tominaga, Yuta Watanabe all in their primes plus an NBA-level big??? I don't know which perennial Asian contender can stop that kind of lineup. It's a toss up between them and the Boomers. Everybody will play for 3rd place.

This is always problem for team USA, familiarity.. that's the biggest advantage that international teams have.. and I don't like that they always giving the ball to Edwards.. he's too ballhog..

in these exhibition games they play 60% effort plus KD's not playing. In Paris, Tyrese, White, Edwards and Booker will see the floor maybe 8-10 minutes max.

Familiarity and lack of chemistry will be an issue but they just have too many weapons that other teams have no advantage over them. They can swing the ball all they want, iso if they want, run down the shot clock if they want and it doesn't matter where the ball ends up-- it's always a high percentage shot.

you are too afraid of Japan, if Hachimura stays in NBA, then his availability is always in question, in the last FIBA Asia Watanabe and Tominaga played but only finished at 7th place, and the way you talk as if other Asian countries will not improve, like what i said Japan cock sucking in this forum will make makipilis more ashamed of themselves

yeah right. that's why they're in the Olympics while the rest are watching them at home, wishing to be in their place. Lol. Give credit where credit is due. They built a solid league, developed their homegrown players and played exceptional as one of the hosts of the World Cup. I'm not afraid of Japan, I'm just saying they could be even better with a simple roster adjustment.

If (When) Vietnam figures out this FIBA eligibility thing, they can be like Guam's present NT, full of legit ballers with US pedigree. They can even be better than Thailand, Indonesia, and Mongolia.

If you are talking about exemption, the question is not only limited to how many players the FIBA give such but also for how long they will be treated as a developing basketball country? you will not be considered as a developing basketball country forever.

And that's the problem.. if they doing these kind of things in main tournament, upsets are possible... If you are Steve kerr, you don't habit those kind of things.. teams like Germany or even Serbia will kill them with their competency...

In all honesty the rest of Asia and some LatAm/European teams are f*cked the moment Japan replaces Hawkinson with an NBA-level naturalized player. Doesn't help that Yuta Watanabe is w the Chiba Jets, which means he'll be more involved now with Akatsuki Five.

Watanabe can be defended... The rest of the world not afraid of NBA players... Lebanon is not afraid of those NBAers (they beat Clarkson, Howard, Robertson).. And it's not ideal to tap NBA players as your naturalized players... First of all, availability is important.. the reason why Tim cone always opt w/ Brownlee than Clarkson.. 2nd, team chemistry.. guys like RHJ, Brownlee, Spellman have their time to spend with their teammates than the guys like Clarkson, Hachimura or Schoan.. And lastly, those NBAers have little to none idea of what FIBA rules is doing.. they have to adjust their game to suit in the rules... Even now Joel Embiid has trouble adjusting to the FIBA rule setting...

American NBA players. im pretty sure Luka, Jokic, Wemby, and other players who has constantly played for their flags in FIBA games that are in the NBA knows more about the rules then any of us here.

Yeah, I mean American NBA players.. or some internationals who didn't played yet for FIBA.. take in case Jeremy Schoan of Poland, he did harm than good for Poland, even lose to Markannen less Finland.. same goes to China's Kyle Anderson...while Lithuania, they are better w/ Valencuinas than having Sabonis, despite the latter is member of NBA 2nd team... Valencuinas is the captain and leader of Lithuania.. they have good showing last year, even beat team USA, while w/o him they struggled big time last OQT even w/ Sabonis... That shows having NBA players are not that big advantage...

i am not taking away from them that they qualified in the Olympics good for them that they were able to take advantage of being a host country while we didn't, but my point is why the hell it will only be Australia and them in the FIBA Asia while other countries will just need to settle for third place, when will all these development Japan still hasn't won anything yet in Asian tournaments for the past 10 years, let see next year, until they are able to produce a NBA all-star level of talent that i will not consider them unbeatable for other us and other Asian countries, as their non NBA players are not that far in terms of talent to other Asian players

their habits are solid as individuals they just gotta be in sync as a team come Olympics. This is a team of high IQ players who can adapt quick. Kerr obviously did not play to win, purpose of these exhibition games is to see how certain combinations work. Australia did not care also, more of rehearsal of sets and end game tactics. Not counting out upsets to happen, of course, on a bad shooting night this team is beatable. People expect them to blow out their opponents as early as now but Kerr's approach is familiarization and for them to peak at the right time.

While Japan may not boast NBA all-star level talent across the board, we cannot ignore the fact that they still have more NBA talents than other Asian countries. Add to that their strong domestic league that gives their locals competitive edge over their neighbors. True, they haven't won anything in the past 10 years in Asian tournaments but their performance in the World Cup indicates their program's trajectory as a formidable force in the region.

Why wait next year when we can test this theory in the Olympics this August? Gilas might not be the only Asian country to upset a European powerhouse in 2024. Japan is in a tough bracket but let's see how they'll fare. This is not Japan c*ck sucking lol, it's a good development for the growth of the sport in the region.

why wait next year? because the FIBA Asia tournament will be next year so it will be a good gauge on how other asian teams will fare against them, let's see in the Olympics then if Japan end up winless in their bracket and got blown out by France and Germany maybe the overhyping will stop and Brazil is not an easy team either even with Hachimura playing, i still believe that top asian teams can still beat them and be competitive, i don't see Japan better than the Latvian national team that Gilas beat, i am trying to search the schedule of Japanese national team for their preparation in the upcoming Olympics i want to see them play against European team

lol so much hate towards Japan when they're clearly making strides. Chill out. If they get blown out by France, Germany and Brazil so what? They're still a basketball program that qualified in the Olympics. 12 of the best basketball programs in the world. Don't get me started about how other European teams didn't qualify because if they can they would have.

You're really making that assessment when the last time we faced Japan was 2022 with our cadet team and they weren't full force. Times are different now. Gilas just beat China twice, Gilas are Asian Games Champs, and Gilas just beat a European team ranked no. 6 in the world. Before last year's World Cup absolutely no one will believe Gilas can achieve those things.

On the other hand, Japan has arguably one of the best leagues in the world attracting elite talents from around the globe and has produced multiple NBA players. On a good night they're capable of upsetting powerhouses from other continents. Both programs are progressing, trending in the right direction, but as of this writing Japan and Australia are the ones worthy of competing against the best of the best based on their results... and that's a cold hard fact. ;) What's not to hype about this Japan team when years ago they can't even beat Gilas? As their Asian neighbor we should support them in the Olympics because they can provide a blueprint for us on how to beat those elite Euro and LatAm teams.

i don't give a shit about Japan and their program all i care about is beating them and not emulating them, despite all the turmoil with Gilas in recent years we were not the that far behind, if the basketball patrons in our country will not be too selfish in stockpiling talents for the local school its not impossible for the Philippines to produce NBA players, and also you have to consider that Filipino players use basketball as a way out of poverty so most are afraid to take risk and try their luck outside of our country as there are already offers that can somehow satisfy their needs top college players in the Philippines even earn 6 digits so it's understandable if they are opting to stay, something that Japanese players has the luxury being in a first world country, despite of all the resources and current development Japan has didn't totally outperform Philippines when it comes to international basketball, it just that fucking Chot Reyes being too full of himself and wasted a good opportunity for the country to qualify in the Olympics, but do not make it appear that they are head and shoulders above everyone, that is why i am saying let see in FIBA Asia 2025

For now they are... right beside Australia who beat Serbia just now.

But I symphatize with you that Gilas can achieve more if not for our shitty landscape. It is yet to be seen if we can outperform them with that current group but for now, let's admit that Japan's blueprint is working, while the Philippines is still figuring it out.
