Not much to do in Qatar though and the weather isn't for everyone. And they're not really a basketball country. I'm betting 80% of the fans would be Pinoys.

Nope... They will play in fully air conditioned arena, the hotels there are nearby the arenas who are only 10 mins travel time and also the European fans will have lesser hassle to travel since it is just only 1 or 2 hr flight to Doha.. Lebanese, Greeks, turkish, Serbians, Sudanese, etc.. fans can go to Doha easily unlike last year that the travel time to Manila is about 12-15 hr flight...

It's hard for Durant when he was guarded by Alien... Curry take that advantage of lack of quality guards of France... But France will definitely have a bright future with Wemby as their leader...

Edwards and Booker will have big responsibility to continue the American basketball legacy.. this is hard because the next batch of American stars are no nearby talent of those 3 legends... Tatum is a disappointment this event.. and I don't know if he will play again at Olympics after this... Chet and Flagg should lead team USA 2027 World cup team.. they badly need experience...

Any team USA shorter than this team in terms of talent and cohesion will have a high probability of losing the game. We are talking about the team USA with LeBron, KD and Curry in the line-up yet they needed clutch from these players to win. This is the best US team assembled in recent memory.

After this Olympics, US will still send better teams but without the presence of quintessential players. When things go south, these players carried them. Without them, I don't know what will happen to team USA. It remains to be seen what will happen to the team post-LeBron, Curry and KD.

That shot Curry took when he was completely covered by a double team is the perfect illustration of his supreme confidence. KD was wide open to his left and LeBron was wide open on the corner. France was doing everything to make him pass. Yet...he shoots and he scores. Unbelievable cajones.

Quite interesting that among the top performers of team USA in the 2024 Olympics are the most senior members of the team - Lebron, Curry & Durant. All of whom aren't expected to play for team USA in the next Olympics. Lebron turns 40 in December. Curry & Durant are around 35 or 36 yrs old.

So what does the future holds for team USA? What would be USA basketball team look like in the next 4 years or so? Who will succeed Lebron, Durant & Curry?

Experience is very important, especially in short, high-pressure tournaments like this. That's one of the flaws of the US World Cup team, it was mostly newbie players in terms of international play with no real veteran.

Aside from the US vets...Fournier, Batum and De Colo showed why experience is valuable.

Wemby (if he stays healthy) will be scary starting next Olympics and beyond. This defeat really stung him.

I'm just waiting for new updated FIBA ranking maybe later this week... I'm sure USA will hold the top spot.. while Serbia, Germany and France will likely be in the top 4 rankings while Canada will be in number 5.. Spain, Argentina, Slovenia will likely go down further in FIBA rankings.. I see Japan might enter top 20 rankings together with SSD... Lebanon (maybe from 28 to 26) will slightly up and Philippines (maybe from 37 to 34-35)... Iran (from 29 to 35 to 36) China (from 30 to 38)will likely go down while Jordan will not move.. Korea will go down further more... If we are better than Iran and China in FIBA rankings (with Jordan) before the FIBA Asia cup next year, we will get better draw for next continental event in Jeddah... Our target is to be atleast rank 25-28 range going to 2027 FIBA World cup to avoid harder group for the quest of Olympic stint in 2028 Olympics...

Where did that list come from? Embiid if healthy is essential. He's what forces teams to play zone defense and is vital when other teams go big/strong. They would still need a similar player.

Serbia, Germany, France and Canada are still the strongest contenders of USA for 2027 and 2028 cycle.. their roster are young and will be better team in next 3 to 4 years... Australia will now entering new era post Mills and will be led by Giddey, Daniels and Green, maybe dark horse team... Slovenia and Greece should find better naturalized players to help Luka and Giannis.. they can't bring their respective countries alone... Spain will be in rebuilding phase and will wait for Mohamed Dabone to be in their seniors team to be back on top teams in FIBA ... Latvia badly needs healthy Porzingis... and I know we should not be surprise if one country or more will emerge as new threat, same what Germany did before 2023 FIBA World cup (maybe Bahamas)...

Embiidis not always 100% healthy and will be older in 2028... I don't see him joining again unless he will be good enough to avoid injuries going to 2028... Pan am games is like Asian games.. not FIBA sanctioned event... He can switch especially if the next head coach will be Eric Spoelstra....

Booker has discovered a new dimension to his game. He turned into a Klay when it comes to defensive effort. He was picking up the other team's lead guards full court, and was covering for Steph on D. And then efficient on the O side.

Would be interesting if he gets traded to the Warriors.

Interesting considering he turned up his defence in the NBA too after surprising people with his effort on the Tokyo Olympics. I'm convinced he's just pacing himself during the NBA season and can do a lot more if he isn't asked to carry the offence by himself. One of the reasons I like the addition of Monte Morris and Tyus Jones. He doesn't have to be forced to play PG anymore

The way he full-court pressed all opposing PGs and got in their grill chippy put a lot of pressure on other teams and disrupted tempos. And then I think he shot 60% from 3 the whole tournament, and because of that even if he didn't shoot, just him being a threat standing on the corner was valuable for spacing.

It's wild that France and Serbia had no choice but to play a lot of zone even if Steph, KD and Booker were on the floor together.

My biggest takeaway from this is...before, the US won games because of superior athleticism. This one was because of superior shooting. The game has truly changed.
