The US did their work to have an easy route from group stage to play-offs. Or maybe I am bias? LMAO.

Pretty sure I wanna see an all NBA-players game in an International game with Canada and USA playing each other, especially in Finals.

What I meant is the format. Look, US will face Serbia for the third straight time - second this Olympics and will be beaten again badly. On the other side of the fence, you have Germany-Greece and France-Canada. How is this fair?

I get that we have 3 groups out there but why was that?

On a two group preliminary stage, you may have bracketed those teams in the following way:

USA
Serbia
South Sudan
Puerto Rico
Germany
Spain

Canada
Greece
Australia
France
Japan
Brazil

Much simpler and more fair to anyone.

But I see Germany will win vs Canada... Germans are more loaded team and they have height in every position... Schroder is a 2 way player that can limit SGA alone... Wagner bros and Voitghman will bully Olynk, Powell inside...

Semis would have been more exciting if US was facing Germany or Canada.

The only reason I see why they did this awful format is to just minimize the amount of games played in the Group stages (3 games total in 3 group format Vs 5 games total in 2 group format).

Well Greece is not that strong.. maybe slightly better than Brazil but that's it... Germans might have their bad game but still won by 15...

Well, because US has the higher quotient system, that means they are the highest seed.. Germans also tried to up their PD but US are much higher.. They copied the football format of having 3rd placers will also advance into the playoffs...

Good idea but I doubt if that would be possible schedule-wise of the Olympics.

Teams will basically play 5 times in the elimination alone, that will give too much fatigue. Also if their schedule will be as it is right now with having 3 days interval each game, it would take 15 days for elimination alone (Olympics starts from July 26 until August 11) meaning the elimination alone will take the full Olympics schedule.

If they are going to make it 1 to 2 days (2 days won't still work schedule-wise), I doubt the players willingness to play, especially the NBA players to play in a set up like literally having a competitive game day by day. It would just be so exhausting with new NBA season coming through.

And all of this is for the elimination only, with play-offs not being included.

They might win with how their chemistry going on right now.

Still rooting for Canada though, the entertainment will exceed the ceiling with the players' credential alone with Canada vs US finals.

Why fix when nothing is broken with previous format?

I think this was the old format in Olympic basketball.

Oh I see, I did not know that, maybe I am still young after all lol. So meaning it would still be applicable schedule-wise.

Imagine, by using the previous format, standings end up like this:

US
Germany
Serbia
Spain
South Sudan
Puerto Rico

Canada
France
Greece
Australia
Brazil
Japan

QF

US
Australia

France
Serbia

Canada
Spain

Germany
Greece

in the QF alone, US might have a hard time against Australia. After winning that, you have France waiting (if they beat Serbia).
