-Ja Morant if he sobers up
-Devin Booker seems like he is getting groomed to be the leader hence the heavy minutes
-Haliburton is being benched now but will be there too
-Don't count out JJJ just yet

Actually, if I were USA in post 2024, I will only tap 5 stars and the rest are role players.. make them commit both World cup and Olympics for 2 cycles for continuous chemistry... In 2028, they are the host, the expectations there will be high since they have home court advantage... The 5 big name players USA should commit long term are Edwards, Tatum, Brown, Adebayo and Maxey then 2 youngsters of Flagg and Chet.. then the rest are role players who know their roles... In my mind are JJJ (good interior defender, won a DPOY last season), Herro (A good shooter and underrated defender), Aaron Gordon (good role player, can do it all on both ends), Alex Caruso (good two way player, good replacement for Holiday) and Jarret Allen (back up big man).. maybe include 2 replacements such as Banchero and Reaves in case of Injuries or availability... I don't think Morant, Zion, Mitchell or Trae will fit in under FIBA rules... And USAB should have a real program for national team.. if other countries can do, why not them? It's not about star studded line up, it's all about best team possible for FIBA competitions...

After the batch of lebron,kd and curry, usa is devoid of s tier superstars aside from embiid (who is lackluster at the friendlist). Hope edwards, booker, tatum, jalen brown would step up

Luckily for the US, the other s tier stars are from different countries (jokic, luka, giannis, sga, 1st team all nbaers for the foreseable future)

Coach K rejuvenated USAB. I don't know why are reverting to a system/coaching style that didn't work.

It's not the S tier players who will give USA headaches.. teams who will give USA problems post 2024 are teams who are loaded in every position even they are not big names in the NBA... Teams who are already top notch in terms of team chemistry are:
Germany - Schroder (30), Theis (31), Franz (22), Mo (27), Obst (27), Bonga (24), Voitghman (30)

Canada - SGA (26), Murray (27), Barrett (24), NAW (25), Dort (25), Brooks (28), Powell (33), Olynk (33)

Serbia - Jokic (29), Bogdanovic (31), Petrusev (23), Jovic (20), Dobric (28), Milutinov (28), Guduric (28), Micic (30)

Australia - Giddey (21), Daniels (21), Landele (28), Green (23), Exum (29), Kay (31), Reath (28) (note: Mills, Delly and Ingles might retire from National team after 2024 Olympics)...

These 4 nations will be the biggest rival of USA post 2024, and remember their core are still young, can still play up to 2032 Olympics together as a team.. these will be the biggest rivals of USA since 2004 Argentina and 2008-2012 Spain.. but USA have no more Kobe, KD or LeBron to save the day for them... And those 4 are becoming better and better every year.. they not reach their prime years yet together as a team... I think they will be better by 2027 WC and 2028 Olympics...

USAB only has to finish 3rd out of 4 (Americup) or 6 (World Cup) teams during qualifying, the only time their top players experience actual FIBA competition is during the World Cup and Olympics.

They have such a depth of talent from their FIBA Americas U16 to their FIBA World U19 teams that win gold almost everytime. Factor in that probably 99% of all naturalized players is an American-born player playing professional overseas (huwag pilosopo, just making a point how dominant Americans should be).

It's not any different from how things are done here because after that youth level, the best players are more inclined to securing their future as professionals. Go back to our 2014 U17's and 2019 FIBA U19 teams, jury's still out on the latter as guys like Fortea, Panopio, and Spencer might end up in the PBA while we already know how Sotto, Tamayo, and Edu turned out... but who on that 2014 U17 team actually makes a living playing basketball (not a sideline)? Flip the script to the USA, no doubt you can name all the current NBA players on that team with Jalen Green... but how about that team with Jason Tatum?

If there was a way to keep those types of players active since they already have FIBA experience at youth level, they really don't have to depend on a bunch of G-League players while the Lebron's of the NBA only show up when they feel like it. The jump from amateur to pro shouldn't be that hard for them compared to us. It's another story in places like Japan and Europe because the sporting club culture fills that gap. Maybe not the NBA like Luka, but it's rare that you'll find someone who made it to a regional U16 make drastic life choices to become therapists or trainers.

That's the problem USAB should fix, if they want to retain their status post 2024.. it is not about the depth of talent US basketball has, it is all about their main team will fit to the system under FIBA rules... They have no problem about talent, they can put 10 teams in FIBA and maybe half of them will be medal contenders... But USAB should also adjust the way FIBA setting exist... Even we all know NBA is bigger organization than FIBA in basketball world, FIBA is still and will be the main organization for international competitions... Every country only allowed 1 national team per country, So USA have to pick best talent fit to the FIBA rules, Not pick who is the best players and just put it together treating like an all star game.. they are only country in the world remaining (Philippines already go away with that system) that treats FIBA competitions like an all star games... Actually when I watched their games on livestreams... Ansakit sa mata mga plays nila.. just one pass and who ever has the ball then they will shoot it.. no plays whatsoever... Most of them are ill-advised shots... They only have just talent to hang against well established systems of other teams... Meanwhile, I like Germany, Australia, Serbia, etc... style of execution of the ball... Umiikot talaga bola, all of them have touch the ball and find the open teammate.. Last game between US and Germany, you will see the difference between US plays and German plays.. that's why despite superstar caliber of USA team, they have a hard time beating Germany...and this is dangerous part for USA.. The German knows how to beat them and they are not afraid of them.. imagine USA w/o superstar trio of LeBron, KD and Steph? They will have hard time winning even bronze medal if they will not adjust to FIBA setting...

DWade and Melo talked about this in the 7PM in Brooklyn Podcast.

In contrast to Edwards who has all the confidence in the world, they hate how Tatum has it all skill wise but doesn't carry the same type of ego and selfishness stars like Kobe and MJ had, and now that he has won a championship, he has every right to be his own man. It's time to be 'Him'. Regardless he is still a superstar.

With KD, Steph and Lebron retiring from USAB, the torch will be passed to Edwards, Embiid, Brunson, Paolo, Booker, Tatum, Haliburton and Jaylen Brown. USAB's future is still bright with these guys. In a few years one of them will become the face of the league. After Lebron officially retires, one or two of them will share the spotlight with Luka, Giannis, Wemby, SGA and the Joker.

Each categorically strong country has only 1 NBA superstar while USA will continue to banner multiple superstars in their lineup. No need to be threatened by France, Australia and Germany. They might inch close but USA is still the undisputed king of basketball.

there are gears USAB can play that Germany can't. Other teams must play perfectly while Team USA has lots of room for error as shown vs SSD.

In short, USA can chill for 3 quarters and 5 minutes through 4th quarter and still win the game. That's how ridiculous their lineup is.

Effort and interest wise, most USAB players just coasted through those friendlies. More like familiarization with teammates and get a sweat in.

Steve Kerr was experimenting as well, looking at different combinations, how to use players he's not used to coaching.

Germany wanted to make a statement but fell short because they were playing full speed the whole game while USA was just pacing themselves to put the game away. Steph only made 1 three and they still won. If he had a game like that with the Warriors he'll be crucified.

There's levels to this and the FIBA game revealed the hierarchy within the team.

But again, USA better not put themselves in precarious situations in the Olympics because teams smell blood when the stakes are higher.

I am still wondering - if us Filipinos don't like football, why not try rugby (union/15's or 7's)? I honestly believe that Filipinos will really love this sport. I was able to watch some games and I got easily hooked by it. Surprisingly, Japan is the best Asian team in rugby.

Rugby 7's is the Olympic event for rugby as of now, AFAIK.

Flag Football will an Olympic sports in 2028 at LA, its a variation of NFL football (tackle football) , and NFL superstars will be playing. but just last month, Japan's U-21 Team beat USA U-21 in a full-pad, tackle football World U21 Championships

that's great flag football (American football variant) and sevens (Rugby variant) are and will be Olympic events. I believe Filipinos will enjoy these sports.

My Pinay Gen-Z co-worker plays Rugby, the full 11-a-side variation ( i think that's called Rugby Union) , and i think she's one of the backs ( i dont know the position terms) in a rec league in NY. She 2x tear her knee ligaments already. Her positions require lots of cuts and dukes. and those tear-up her ligaments bad.

The deal with Philippine sports is that Filipinos are free to try whatever sport they like. The problem is if one becomes good enough in a sport to compete, there are layers and layers of bs. We got two sporting authorities, one has government mandate to play Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy to our athletes with our taxes. The other functions like a fraternal org no different from Freemasons, Eagles, or the Illuminati. Between the two are sports associations that function as bosses of the sports they run as they try to kiss ass with both authorities (to the point where they serve as board members on that pseudo frat and possibly bribe Santa and the Fairy) while playing nice with the international governing bodies of their sport. Why? Because EVERYONE wants to be acknowledged. It's never about the athletes and coaches/staff. If we cringe at the word "stakeholder" whenever its mentioned, it gets worse with other sports.

Ideally an athlete's job is to train, compete, and let the PSC, POC, and NSA's handle everything else... but not everyone is a PBA/overseas player, PVL player, football player under contract, tennis player/golfer on tour, boxer signed with a major promotion, a sponsored e-sports gamer, or a ranked pool player/darts player/bowler. Everyone else either treats their sport as a sideline or make ends meet as having other sidelines. It's those non-pro's that get the short end of the stick.

It's sad our basketball team had all the support from MVP (paid for Jordan Clarkson, paid for event hosting, paid for training camp, SMC lent out their players) and yet we did not qualify to the Olympics. It must have been tiring to bankroll a Chot Reyes-led Gilas team. Millions of dollars were spent but only led to disappointment. Chot should be charged for gross negligence. Can't blame Filipino athletes from other sports for crying foul they don't get this type of support.

All that money could have done a lot for other sports with a real chance of Olympic Gold.

As far as I know, we have a rugby team.. we are top 4
team in men's division in Asia in terms of rankings worldwide and 39th overall.. I don't know what is the qualification for Olympic rugby but in Asia, Japan is the strongest alongside Hongkong and Korea while 60th for women, 9th in Asia...

We have separate funds for other athletes.. and all of them under support by MVP foundation.. I don't know if all of you knew that but they doing that for years.. MVP foundation also bankrolling Hidelyn Diaz Gold medal run last Olympics... Don't blame basketball for other sports' misfortune (Just like what football fans arguing), every federation has also own version of political agenda in every sports...
