Remember when Obst smoked Haliburton in Manila.

I think they can beat USA in Olympics even w/ KD around... They are only one of few countries that have size to match up KD and Bron even in a single coverage...I noticed in last 3 minutes of 4th, they starting to rushed shots, they not interested to win in this tune up matches, just like they did last year... But don't be surprised if they meet again, USA might lose to Germans.. the German coach outcoaching Steve Kerr since last year...

USA needs to fire Kerr and hire another coach from the NCAA like Hurley. Or let Spo take over.

Tyrese was a wrong choice. He was already exposed in Manila. Should have been Jaylen Brown or Josh Hart.

It's should be Jaylen Brown. He is a two-way player.

You misspelled Brunson with 'H'-'A'-'R'-'T'

Billy Donovan? He's been in the NBA since 2014. With OKC, then the Bulls.

Moving forward:

Embiid?
Bam
Flagg
Chet
Paolo
Barnes
Tatum
Jaylen
Edwards
Brunson
Maxey

Germany can play FIBA basketball or NBA basketball. I think they are the most versatile team.
They have a combination of size inside with their bigs in Voigtmann, Thiemann, Theis, and Mo Wagner and versatility in Isaac Bonga and Franz. Shooting with Obst and creativity with Schroder.

This is actually a good FIBA team.

Then USA domination is as good as over. Could start as early as this Olympics if they fail to win Gold.

No Davis, no LeBron, no Curry and no KD to carry them. I mean that line-up you listed is really talented but they are no LeBron nor KD that can actually take over the game when the game is on the line. I think of Jaylen and Edwards but jury is still out for them. Brunson maybe but undersized. Bigmen will also be a glaring hole for this team. Embiid looks lost and slow on defense. Chet has good instincts defensively but can be easily cancelled out due to his frame. That leaves an undersized Bam Adebayo as their bigman.

While I checked the roster of Germany via basketnews.com... the oldest is Niels Griffey (who?) at 33 and Daniel Theis at 32... Schroder is just 30 and he's still having 2 Olympic cycle to play for Germany, The Wagner bros are 22 (Franz), and 27 (Moritz), making them available for atleast 10 more years, Isaac Bonga at 24, Obst at 27 (still available for 10 more years), Johannes Voitghman and Mando Lo are both 31 (can play 1 more cycle).. Remember, they can also parade Isaiah Hartenstein of OKC (former NYK) and Maxi Kleber (Dallas) in the future... This German team is stack of talent and still young.. can be a contenders in international basketball for 10 more years..

I actually look at them as the version of 2004 Argentina team who beat team USA in Olympics and won the gold... No big name stars like Jokic or Giannis in their roster but very stack and underrated.. Schroder is the Ginobili of their team, both leaders of their basketball culture of their countries.. Theis is the Scola of their team, very hardworking guy in the post, not so tall but very physical in the lane.. Nocioni and Delfino role taken by Franz Wagner and Andreas Obst, both deadly shooters plus very versatile players... Walter Herman role is taken by Mo Wagner, very versatile forward and physical too.. Orberto role is taken by Voitghman, both very good back up bigs... And also the coach, both Magnano of Argentina and Gordon Herbert of Germany are very good FIBA coaches.. BTW this is the last year of Herbert in German national team.. I'm sure many national teams around the world will call him to sign and take charge to their national team...

the question to them is they can play physical and play D ? Still a loaded roster but no real leader like MJ, Melo, KD, Kobe or Bron to lead the team.. Those players are egoistic that they don't want to be a back up guy since all of them are stars in their respective teams in NBA.. this is a huge downgrade of American talent in their basketball culture history... They can win gold? Maybe, If they start to accept the roles for team USA and play as a team.. this core of team you put need a year or two to establish chemistry together.. but we all know because NBA didn't prioritize much the international competitions, I don't see that happening that they will train for a year..

I don't know about Spoelstra, but he also only knows NBA style of coaching... They should better hire established NCAA coach, who knows FIBA rules such as coach Calipari... Or the guy who rumored to be Lakers coach but declined before Reddick gets the coaching gig (I forgot his name thou)... He is also good...

-Ja Morant if he sobers up
-Devin Booker seems like he is getting groomed to be the leader hence the heavy minutes
-Haliburton is being benched now but will be there too
-Don't count out JJJ just yet

USA Basketball wants to win it all with NBA coaches and NBA players. They're not just fighting for the country, they're also fighting to keep the brand relevant with the hyper-globalization of the game. They want to stay on top of the hierarchy. They know the rest of the world can play but the Olympics is a way to set themselves apart.

Just like PBA with Gilas. PBA will never allow a team full of non-PBA players to represent the country in FIBA-sanctioned seniors level tournament ever again. This already happened in 2021 when a team with no PBA player almost beat Serbia. Tab felt there was no need for PBA, young players realized this as well and had an exodus. As a result everybody hated Tab because they will all become irrelevant if a Tab-led PBA-less Gilas team will have success internationally. Almost all his players then were pro-bound anyway, and they could skip the PBA. But now, as long as we keep borrowing PBA players from SMC and MVP groups, they will no longer allow a non-PBA coach to mentor the team. I think Tim Cone didn't want it before, so we're left with Chot.

In contrast to USA Basketball which is a tool to keep the NBA brand on top, PBA representation in Gilas teams and national team success in FIBA is very important to keep the dying brand afloat. They hate to admit this but we still need validation from international play just to say that "kaya sumabay ng PBA players sa international" when, to its core, the league is deteriorating compared to other leagues.

Yeah, but that is a mistake USAB will do if they keep it.. unless NBA will also adopt FIBA rules too... Even coach Popovich having a hard time adjusting to FIBA rules.. they have to accept only NCAA coaches should coach team USA due to their familiarity with FIBA rules...
