That's why we need a "real" 5-7 man core, even Gilas changing coach, the players' familiarity is there... This is what CTC wants.. maybe we want heading or Abando or Baltazar, but this decision by CTC to stick to his players is a good decision... I'm sure many here don't like Oftana or Perez or someone else but all of them are important pieces for CTC... He values team chemistry and familiarity over talent...Maybe here For sure pick Heading over Oftana but in the eyes of CTC, Oftana is more value in his system than Heading...

yeah but the difference here is that Kai, Heading, Perez and Rhenz have already shown they're capable at that level. Oftana has long ways to go

My Olympic power rankings

1. USA (it's hard to deny their talent anyway)
2. Germany (only team outside USA are complete in any position)
3. Canada (best talents outside USA but lack of bigs)
4. Australia (they proved in friendlies that they are for real)
5. Serbia (anytime they have Jokic, they are still contenders)
6. France (they are disappointing in last 3 friendlies)
7. Greece (this is Giannis and only Giannis)
8. Spain (they are entering rebuilding era after their golden generation became old and retired)
9. South Sudan (doing great in previous friendlies especially against USA)
10. Brazil (underdog team but don't underestimate this team)
11. Puerto Rico (they have good guards but lack of bigs)
12. Japan (weakest team in the competition)

But as long CTC is the head coach, he needs Oftana and others for familiarity.. you know how important chemistry and familiarity in FIBA tournaments... We are not team USA to just pick best players and "bahala na" plays... Maybe Heading come back to the PBA and request a trade to Ginebra right away... This is the chance heading will have shot with Gilas... RJ and Go might have a chance since they were now playing under CTC this upcoming PBA season...

I don't know but South Sudan is the most loyal, most rabid and even most annoying fanbase in Africa in terms of basketball.. All African countries are football mad countries, they only treating basketball as 2nd or lower fiddle interest depending on the countries interest... Last year when some Filipinos doing their livestream on FB, SSD fans are also watching and like our attitude towards Gilas, they are also the same for SSD... I think they are the only African nation that love other sport (basketball), than football... Not declare yet but South Sudan is already another basketball country like us, Lithuania or China...

the thing they don't have the money to be a target market for NBA, it's the same with us they know that in Asia our country is one of the most if not the most passionate about basketball, but we also don't have the money of countries like China and Japan to be a target market, the only difference is Japan do not have a Shohei Ohtani for basketball to be the face of NBA in the country, yes they do have Hachimura but Hachimura at his best is a serviceable role player

It's amazing how South Sudan was able to make a Hugot System work for them.

Their players are from all around the world and yet they play with so much cohesion and chemistry.

They are the equivalent of the Olympic Refugee Team. But in a good way, because they'd overcame all adversities, as a nation. Luol Deng is the GOAT Humanitarian through sports.

my favorite best team in asia will face Serbia tonight another bukake in the making, with all the money and hype still the best team in Asia can't compete against the top teams in the world, maybe they need to add more imports in their league

Ok Tito Bob, that confirms you dont know anything about the 11x FIBA African Champions

Well, the same said for USA, they are successful basketball nation but as for popularity, basketball is only 2nd behind American football... You can search in any sites, Or tell most of Angola sports fans, they will tell you that football is their number 1 sport...

Same goes to countries such as Serbia, Greece, Turkey, Israel, etc... that they love basketball and it's popular but football still the king sport on those respective countries...

Yeah.. that is sad reality... Example last world cup, most of popular NBA players decline to play here, while last 2019, Guys like Giannis, Jokic, Sabonis played.. Chinese market is hard to decline.. We are one of the most rabid basketball fans but economic and market wise, we are below than other more rich countries.. maybe in 2027 FIBA WC, most of NBA stars, especially international ones will play in the world cup since Qatar is very accessible and good destination for sporting events.. they have a good job hosting FIFA World cup 2 years ago... I'm sure it's easy for them to host FIBA World cup and they can convince most of NBA stars will play in that event... That's the luxury rich countries has compare to us..

Japan's problem is size. Filipinos have bigger d̶i̶c̶k̶s̶ players who can stay with 6'3 guards, 6'8 wings, and 6'11 bigs who can all shoot.

As great as Tominaga looks offensively, you're not putting him in a switch to some 6'8 wing. They tried that with Yoshii who's 6'5 against Germany... but he moves like an Asian center. They're not stopping anyone in the Olympics if they keep trading baskets.

yes, that is why i can say that for the resources that we have, we are doing ok as a country compare to other rich nations, the same way with African teams their genetics compensate for lack of resources, while you have teams like Chinese Taipei who loves basketball and also has the money but still sucks at it

this Japan cannot out Euros the Euros, they need to make it a grind out game, that game against Finland was a fateful game and they deserve all the credit the same way our game against Latvia where everything went right for our side, and sadly Filipinos don't have bigger dicks than them based on statistics we are 4th to the last, I hope we are the outliers haha

yes. Angola is 11time African basketball champion but their most popular sport is football…

11 Most Popular Sports in Angola (sportsfoundation.org)

not defending SADIK but he's right, football is the most popular sports in Angola, and being popular doesn't even necessarily mean that they will be as good as their neighboring countries in football, and also using the same logic outside of the old Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, Spain is one of the winningest European country in world cup and in Euros while basketball not being the most popular sports in the country, in short it's the talent level and system make a country successful in sport not the popularity of a particular sport in a country

and Spain being a football country has more basketball world cup trophies than football world cup trophy

they need to replace Hawkinson to take it to the next level.

they need to replace Hawkinson to take it to the next level.

they need a banger, they already have a lot of shooters what they lack is a solid inside presence, though it seems JBA likes stretch bigs, as before Hawkinson they had Nick Fazekas, a naturalized player at the same mold of Ratliffe is what they need

They need a Sofoklis Schortsanitis in the ocean of 3 point shooters. Schortsanitis was a crucial player for Greece to beat the US.

Shaq Taganas is available. lol. but right,

I think Lebanon saw this too hence the Omari Spellman signing.

Spain did this with Serge Ibaka. Indonesia did this with Marques Bolden.

we also sort of had a Sofoklis Schortsanitis with Andray Blatche in 2019 problem is we didn't have an ocean of 3 pointers.

with Japan's budget, top of mind is naturalize James Wiseman or Robert Williams or Mitchell Robinson.

one of those 3 mentioned centers + Rui Yuta Tominaga they can hang with the elite elite teams
