2024 Olympics (Paris) - Men's Competition

After watching 2021 Olympics im not fan of that new playing format

8 games in 2 weeks is normal amount for any fiba tournament historically, 6 feels too little

Especially when we can see in horizont like 8-9 very strong rosters in 2024 olympic tournament

Agreed. I think a fair compromise is to have 4 groups of 3 teams. The top two in each group then form 2 groups of 4 (and results carry over). I think the first 3 of each group go the quarterfinals and the bottom two have to play the 9-10th team (coming from a 9-12th group played in the meantime) to get their spot. So top 6 teams play 7 game maximum. Teams 7-8 from the the pool play can technically still win a medal but they have to play 8 games. Teams 9-12 have to play 9 games to win a medal (but let's face it, they won't)

In football Olympics they play 6 games too, and in World Cup other than 1/2 teams(they are playing only 5 games or less)

In football we can see all best players when we want, in basketball little bit harder to see.

Embiid chose to play for USA.
Weak move by Embiid, as expected. It would have been admireable had he chosen to play for Cameroon. I guess USA also went hard for him, considering noticeable drop of talent compared to some earlier years. Scare of getting beaten in Olympics is real. Still have to rely on Lebron, Curry, Durant...who are like closer to their 40 than 30.

Just a horrible look all round Embiid joining USA. Otherwise, I'm sure Spain, Slovenia & most international teams won't be hypocritical & show support for this move.

Big 3 is gods is head and shoulders better than others. If you could choose any 3 other european players play for your NT for 2024 Olympics which would it be?

My choice would be Markannen,F.Wagner and serbias Bogdanovich

My choice would be Schroder, Bogi and Wagner. Guard presence offensively with good size and all three are at least good defenders (Schroder and Wagner are elite defenders). The more guard power you have, the better. Specially when they can play D too.

Another choice Schroder, Wagner, Porzingis. Great positional size and Porzingis in FIBA is a monster. Not only he can comfortably shoot closer (FIBA) threes, but he is effective defensively too. This would make a crazy chemistry at both ends. I don't need Markannen cause he's not a good defender and he's not a good passer. He can only score.

It seems like you're discussing various basketball-related topics, including players' decisions on international competitions and speculating about the strength of different national teams. Here are some comments on the points you raised:
  1. Ben Simmons and Josh Giddey: It would indeed be interesting to see them play together for the Boomers. Their combination of skills and size could make for a unique dynamic.
  2. Embiid's Competition: The competition for players like Joel Embiid between the USA and other national teams adds an extra layer of excitement to international basketball. It reflects the global growth and competitiveness of the sport.
  3. Team USA Roster: The potential inclusion of players like Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Ja Morant, and Zion Williamson would certainly strengthen Team USA. However, comparing rosters across years can be subjective, as each team has its own strengths and dynamics.
  4. Canada's Rising Talent: The mention of Canada's growing talent, including players like B. Mathurin, highlights the increasing depth of basketball talent in various countries.
  5. European Competition: Europe's competitiveness in basketball is evident, with several strong national teams. The balance of power among nations like France, Serbia, Spain, and Slovenia makes international competitions intriguing.
  6. Argentina's Team: Argentina has a rich basketball history, and the mentioned players like Campazzo, Bolmaro, Vildoza, Laprovitolla, and Gabriel Deck have the potential to form a competitive team.
  7. Ben Simmons' Decision: The news about Ben Simmons choosing to play for the Boomers adds another storyline to international basketball. It's always interesting to see how NBA players contribute to their national teams.
International basketball competitions provide fans with exciting matchups and showcase the diverse talent present in the sport globally. It will be intriguing to see how these storylines develop as competitions approach.

Apparently Lebron, Durant and Steph Curry might be on the US Olympic team next year.

LBJ, KD and Steph are locks. Players who could be joining them in roster are Embiid, Kawhi, AD, Lillard, Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, Haliburton and Ant Edwards. That makes 11 and anyone of the 41 men pool could be inserted as the 12th man…

I believe France will go on full gear in Paris. I think Wemby and Spurs has mutual understanding that the organization will not utilise optimally so as to preserve him for Paris. They are pacing the youngster so as to prevent unnecessary injuries before quadrennial meet. Then by next NBA season he will go all out and full blast for Spurs…

Both USA’s big men Embiid and AD are fragile. Their availability for Paris Olympics is not 100% guarantee. With these scenarios, USA will rely more on their shooters.

USA could potentially sweep all 4 golds in basketball this coming Summer Olympics…

possible team captains:

Mens’ team - LeBron
Men 3x3 - Jimmer
Womens’ team - Taurasi
Women 3x3 - ??? Dolson or Burdick

Australia still has very deep and very talented roster. One tiny bit weaker than France, Canada or even Germany ATM I would say though. The discussion on twitter show however that they have tons of talent still. Again, Giddey has to show he can be an ultimate lead guard which he wasn't particularly able to do in WC. While he can be better with decisions and turn the ball less I guess, he can't shoot and that's the problem.

agree with your assessment. How about the womens which team do you posses a threat to US team?

As both The Process’ and AD’ legs are fragile, I do hope Kerr will call Bam. Adebayo will make as an insurance…

So no Kawhi, no Kyrie, no Dame. But Curry, Lebron, Durant in. Do these old superstars can still carry USA NT impressively in FIBA? I kinda not super stunned by this roster. In the MVP race you have Tatum and Ant as best players. They are both nice, but nowhere near prime Lebron, Kobe, Durant, Curry. No-where near. I never liked Tatum. To me he seemed like soft, non reliable version of Durant or whatever.

Still one spot left. It's still on Lebron and KD to make total difference, IMO. Such guys as Tatum and Ant are not exactly there, IMO. I like Ant though, and I think he might get there. Nor Booker can do it. I would be more impressed if they also had Kyrie and Liilard. Now then it would be crazy offensively talented roster.

Now...what if Lebron and KD looking kinda old physically in FIBA and Ant, Booker, Tatum are chucking...Scoring in non efficient way...I could see that scenario. What if France locking them defensively...

They did a smart move at least to have Bam and Holiday. To have defence.

I kinda expect Embiid to be more of a contra productive. In tighter FIBA court he won't feel nearly as comfortable as in NBA. I see a lot of offensive fouls coming.

Greta roster, but I expected even bigger punch.

Embiid is meh though...never liked him, never respected him and now he's just an object of pity to me.

Kerr...I could have coached USA team last year and it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever. That's how impactful Kerr's coaching was last year. But with this Olympic team, I can pretend to be their coach and win it all. LOL

It's a little shame that a country like USA with that kind of national pool of ridiculous basketball players have to seek for naturalization of Embiid to claim Olympics. It's really killing the game. But I guess they feel a little bit insecure.
