Tagal pa kasi eh. Way too many things will happen before August. Gilas doesn't even have a coach, there could be a bunch of new and even returning faces to the program based on their performance in the PBA like Juan GDL and Caracut. Even Balanza is decent-sized for the FIBA game. Maybe try out Santillian as an undersized 3 or even a 4 the way Quiambao was at FIBA Asia. If JC gets a callback, I'd like to see Carl Tamayo because he spreads the floor better than every other big Gilas had (including RdO). We'll just have to wait for FIBA Asia Cup qualifying before looking ahead to the OQT.

Yeah… others are too rush even the event still months ahead… most of the players are playing professionally… they are busy from their mother clubs…

I would consider picking Kouame over JC or JB. With Kouame and Edu there we can rotate them and have a good rim protector who is excellent at switching on the floor all the time. We dont need to play JF who always becomes target practice at this level. Kai would also be optional. Our SF, SG spot would be weaker but I think a rotation of Dwight, Newsome and Malonzo can be decent. Newsome proved he can be decent at the SF spot last Asian games.

The perfect big man rotation for Gilas is Kai and Kouame at 5,AJ at 4 with a backup from dual position Balthazar and Tamayo. That's the tallest and most skilled athletic big men frontline that Gilas can ever field.

by OQT July, if SBP wanted to Philips will be exempted, (no Asian team would contest his inclusion in the OQT) , only one who would oppose is the PBA ,, as he would join B-league.

given their success in the asian games wonder to what extent will the smc block's involvement be? and if it will still be longhair running the show will he continue to shun those who ask for the "moon"?

With the timeframe... it's just going to be Clarkson unless the program brings in Kouame or a 36-year old Brownlee. I think Kai Sotto is done as far as bargaining power with Chua there. AJ Edu will be happy to join the team without drama. Who are other SMC bigs? Sanggalang? Tratter? I really can't see them bringing in outsiders to the pool unless they're trading for them soon. I don't trust them any more than I trusted MVP and his henchmen.

The SMC bigs are June Mar, Japeth Sangalang, Tratter, Tautuaa (ineligible), Laput (ineligible), Reavis (ineligible), Manuel and Brondial.

After June Mar, their cupboard of quality eligible bigs for FIBA is bare. Japeth's retired.

I think they just tap Kouame, If Brownlee still suspended... SBP will not waste money for now to JC... unless SBP will tap new naturalized player for OQT, especially the chances are slim... What happened to JB's case? Why until now WADA/ITA still silent on JB's case?

That's why Edu and Kai still necessity in this program... The next best eligible big man in the PBA is Justin Arana already....

Only poor people don't understand how basketball here is just luho to these conglomerates (unless they run a farm team). Some people buy Playstations for fun, these conglomerates buy basketball teams and have the league in their pockets for fun. MPIC is a lot poorer than SMC but still had more than enough money to host the World Cup, pay both Clarkson and Kai Sotto, then keep wasting (what rich people call investing) more money on power/toll roads/water/health care/light rail/logistics. It's not so much SMC wasting money than it is trusting in his ability to create shots better than say... Mikey Williams? In Kai's case, his value is inflated based on the lack of rim protection apart from Edu, JMF, and Kouame. Sige fine, para may maka-dunk din tapos happy mga tao.

A full-strength Gilas team with proper international coaching will be competitive. Now, it's a matter of being able to win at least one vs Latvia or Georgia, then pull an upset against either Brazil or Montenegro and hope the final isn't against Latvia, if it is... maybe upset Latvia. If Clarkson wants to play, I have no doubt SMC will pay him whatever he was getting for the World Cup. Bahala na sila mag-usap. Kai is another story because it's really up to MVP's people who gave Kai and his family the whole kabuhayan plus package that PBA players normally get when they're retired. So all this talk about players asking for the moon has layers of value versus utang na loob attached to it. At the end of the day, we'll want to hear this "for the country" talk, but there are options ranging from who has been there before, who impresses, and who can actually make the team better.

This YouTuber thinks we should send a young squad for the OQT, similar to what sir DAdmiral said:

https://youtu.be/o1pmhOhiZH8?si=Fhpg-gLV4LGQ9IQn

He says that we should send younger PBA players, the overseas guys, and some collegiate players.

Honestly, I agree to an extent. We just need some veterans that can still play in 2027. We should be able to balance development of a core, and ability to compete with world-level teams.

So do we have to name the people who have the power to block this proposal? You put up a lineup and it will be same people, with an addition of Long Hair and SMC.

Yes, If Ange doesn’t get any attractive offers overseas it’s only logical that PBA will give him a special privilege to play as local.

But for sure MVP will not waste big money to tap JC… If JC will take discount then why not? But I think it’s better to tap JC in games that have chance on winning…

Unfortunately, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has a prior agreement with the PBA that national players would be made available to their mother clubs until June 22. Given how much the league has sacrificed for the national interest, this agreement takes precedence. Therefore, the national team will miss the opportunity to play in Lithuania by about a week.So much for the PBA adjusting their schedule to accomodate national interest. So if not the PBA then get other players, good time to make a Team B and CTC or the assitant coach can learned something.

See, this is where having a full-time coach and a bigger pool would have been helpful. It's as if the SBP only looked at the window dates and tournament days while disregarding the possibility of being invited to these friendlies... which favor National Teams who can organize better. You're not organizing anything last-minute if your coach has pro club commitments and your best international players aren't playing in your own local league.

I hope SBP still accepts it... Assuming SMB might make it to the finals again, They can still bring 10 players there... I don't see Ginebra in the finals because they are not so good in AFC laden conference... Maybe TNT (only Oftana and f*cking Josh Reyes) is another one... They can replace by Toletino, Abando or any Ginebra players that can be useful...SBP, don't be fool... This is one of a kind experience, We didn't face Lithuania main team yet in history.... Please accept it....

They can accept it even we just have 10 players.. If CTC and SBP Have minds.. Ginebra is not a good AFC team, So i expect them to be eliminated before June 1... Ok, SMB might be in the finals, we will lose Junmar and Perez.. So basically 10 players... Assuming TNT will be their opponent, we will lose Oftana... Still OK, 9 players still enough... They can add Tolentino or even Abando for that stretch... Or PBA will adjust their schedule, finish the conference before June 5....

It doesn't have to be 10 players,2 more players they can use as replacements and good enough for Gilas duties, its like training guys for reserve duties.

Hoping that Ginebra will not make it to the finals (Sorry Ginebra fans here, Gilas is more important for us than PBA).. So that Gilas can afford to just add atleast 2 replacement players atleast... Or i hope PBA will finish their AFC before June 5 or atleast that date, It's already finals... I assume SMB will make it to the finals, maybe against Magnolia, Meralco or TNT (I hope Magnolia).... That Lithuanian invite is hard to pass out... SBP should think that... We need to expose more European competition..
