I dont like DR’s chances , no Kat and Uncle Horford

DR already forgot Horford… he will not play for them forever… however, Towns didn’t commit this year because he’s not 100%…

Just about right, but they looked at Philippines as an upset team in the making.

I always notice that everytime having nba players on their roster, fiba always overhyping it.. Bahamas played poorly those preparation games but fiba put them too high on power rankings… I don’t see them beating well prepared Poland team, maybe they have advantage vs Finland w/o Markannen but Bahamas is like Rich version of Guam.. only rely on talent, no chemistry whatsoever, too much ISO oriented plays… they think having NBA players on their roster is already good for them… it will took years to develop chemistry with each other… they just lucky that they beat Argentina on their rebuilding era… but I don’t see them survive against top European teams in their group…

Meanwhile Bahrain is also part of OQT (Baka magtaka kayo bakit andyan sila)… maybe they are the weakest of all participants here but this incoming appearance for them is historic for Bahrain basketball program.. They are only team outside Qatar (played in 2006 fiba World Cup) in Gulf region that will play higher level competition outside Asia… I already see this before with Iran, Lebanon and Jordan in their early basketball program days, When Jordan and Lebanon played their 1st World Cup appearance before, they were blown away by much superior teams around the world, when they came back in Asian competitions, they became better teams and became Asian contenders until now… same with Iran, when they qualified for the 1st time in 2008 Olympics, they were became practice target by teams around the world, when they came back in Asia in the following year, they beat China in 2009 fiba asia cup in their gold medal match.. and since then, Iran became one of the best teams in Asian basketball for years… Bahrain will be a better team after this OQT experience, that’s why we should look out to them… 100% they will be a better team after this OQT experience… that’s for sure… their line up are young too… that Muzamil Hamooda should be player to watch in 2025 fiba asia cup next year.. that guy is very good… Bahrain will be the dark horse team coming 2025 fiba asia cup… their basketball program trajectory is very same as Jordan, Iran and Lebanon in their early basketball program in 2000s…

Junmar was 24 yrs old during the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

i still blame long hair and the smc faction for denying gilas their best chance at making the olympics. imagine fajardo, aguilar, & lassiter on that 2015 fiba asia team instead of taulava, thoss, & MGR. i think they beat china in the finals and make the olympics in 2016

Junmar is just late bloomer type of player…

fajardo was the reigning PBA MVP that season, him getting very limited minutes was chot not knowing how to use him until the final game

The only real big advantage of gilas is that the kai-abay team is tall, sturdy defenders, reliable scorers and can pass well. The philippines historically never had an international twin tower like them. And the performance showed that. I seriously doubt that nba centers and power forwards can really punish this dynamic duo.

It is the strong backup twin tower that is lacking.

Edu is too brittle and unreliable for international decisive games. Kouame was always the better option for 20-30minutes of high-intensity battles. Just twin him up with kai or abay, and tell him to go on berserker mode on internal attacks, and china, australia, new zealand, whatever will have to pray that their 3point game is better than the cjperez kind. A kouame-baltazar-edu trio is the much better set of replacement killers for the kai-abay tandem.

As for the perimeter killers, nothing still comes close to abando. The pba simply has no abando (or a samboy lim before) who is a good and explosive generational player who can humiliate even nba opponents at fiba level like a mini mike jordan. As wings, the team needs a strong reliable tandem like brownlee and clarkson. If a perimeter quad with jalen green and abando is possible, a top ten finish becomes a very realistic goal at olympic and fiba world cup level.

Thompson is getting brittle too, and a bad back ensures he may never be internationally tough and rough again. Something like heading, or a taller and stronger version (like a ramos) must be recruited. The even older aguilar may not be usable anymore for fast-attacking seven to ten-minute international class aggression.

This coach cone stunt of claiming a 12-man pool of international players is enough is too ridiculous and laughable for contact sports like basketball and football. Really??? Which pba team has only a 12 man pool?

I believe this was set only as budget and pba politics constraint, which is reasonable if admitted honestly. The philippines is a poor country which really cant afford the high expenses for creating a top ten world team. Retard fans and the sbp unfortunately have champagne tastes, on a barangay beer budget. Check out the garbage u17 team.

Agree with the ranking. We were defeated by 15th ranked Poland. I have to say it, we got it close primarily because of Brownlee's 30 pts. But he is 36 years old. How many years can JB give us of this level? Even now he seems weaker than in his prime. He facilitates more than he takes over. How long can he keep carrying us?

2015 was a lesson SMC had to learn. Results wouldve been similar if I had to guess. That 2015 team was special beyond the talent.

I don't think so. Lassiter was the guy SBP was always asking for and SMC was denying. Even to the point of giving an excuse he had colds or something. That's why he was called Super Ubo. That team won bronze with Hontiveros as its main SG. As expected Hontiveros barely shot the ball in the important games. Imagine if it were Lassiter.

That's silver medal bro that Gilas won in 2015 FIBA Asia Chmpionhips. Most (if not all) of us here easily remember that Gilas team. Well, not only SMC teams which refused to lend its players. ROS didn't lend Jeff Chan & Paul Lee. Imagine if Lassiter, Chan & Paul Lee played on the team. Mabigat sana 3-pt shooting ng team.

I remember Hontiveros (who was already at the twilight of his career at that time) threw bricks in most of the games. Mangilan-ngilan lang talaga mga games noon which he shot well from long distance. Yeah, I agree with you, imagine if it was Lassiter who played in place of Hontiveros. Tapos meron ka pang Jeff Chan & Paul Lee.

me thinks that we will still win silver even if we had all the right pieces (fajardo, marcio, chan, lee) given that China will most likely get favorable calls

but yeah we have a better chance of stealing that game with the above-mentioned names, 3-4 players of that team are just roster fillers (Thoss, Asi, Intal and MGR) hontiveros was still serviceable
