I should definitely watch more of him, I haven’t seen much only know he’s athletic 6’2 defender

Well, he's the PBA Finals MVP and an Asian Games gold medalist for a reason. Lowkey feel like him and Calvin Oftana should've gotten Scottie and Pogoy's spots in the World Cup.

I'm a huge fan of Scottie Thompson but CTC would've been scrambling to find a replacement if he knows Chris Newsome can't step up.

Scottie is that all-heart all-hustle guy with high IQ, plays hard like your typical Pinoy; while Chris is more steady, athletic and fundamentally sound player. He plays at his own pace and does not make boneheaded plays. Yes, has a slight glitch on his shot but as long as they're going in who are we to complain. Added bonus is he actually has a bag. Can score off the dribble, penetrate, multiple ways finishing at the rim and willing to share the ball.

In the PBA he's a star who has a green light, but with Gilas he learned how to buy into the system. Really humble and unselfish guy.

Newsome is good. But that hitch in his shot is infuriating. Its not bad enough to affect his midrange but he probably wont be open there at high Fiba level. But his 3 pt shot can be iconsistent because of it. But that would be his only weakness. Yes he is good. He has been good in the PBA finals and the Asian games finals.

Guys have to understand the coaching style of CTC. His expertise is in relationships. He aims to build chemistry, trust, bond between his players and then use that to make the sum better than the parts. Once a team reaches that height of trust and chemistry, it becomes formidable. Scottie is vital for his philosophy. Unless Scottie gets a bad injury, he's not leaving if CTC is the coach.

Realistically none of the current guards are good enough to start and are old. They should have taken a younger guy just to try it out if he can hold up.

If your asian trying to compete internationally you need a pg who can breakdown the defense and take a lot of 3’s. Maybe RJ could be that but more than likely not might as well give him a shot .

Perez , Thompson, New are known at this point

Spot on... Those people here don't understand CTC philosophy.. They just bringing their favorite players even they are not on CTC list... We all know politics inside the camp but for sure CTC also have his hands full that he wants to be in his pool... Heading or Abando are good players but CTC also saw what makes like Oftana, Quiambao, Newsome ahead than those two in his eyes... It's not all about talent... CTC wants to have a best team assemble come 2027... Si Clarkson nga eh di priority ni CTC eh... Take note he's a bonafide NBA star...

Also I hadn’t seen it mentioned but Junmar also played in the sea games and his lack of rim protection was a big factor to why Gilas lost to Indonesia yet he’s still called up

Because we don't have plenty of quality bigs (eligible only) that we have outside JMF, Kai and Edu... Heck, Japeth is always considered anytime because we don't have quality eligible bigs yet... Hope that Geo Chiu improves and Balti again get his nod in the future Gilas stint...

Still CTC wants him.. He is always praising his game.. He already invite him despite more haters don't like him (Just like you)..CTC is vocal with him... Did you hear that with your idols? Whether you like it or not, He will likely join the team, maybe on November.. Deal with it... I don't care what are your feelings against me.. You can't change the fact that CTC is the coach and he will pick whatever he wants...

Always dragging Tim’s name when all we’re asking is how on earth is Pogoy a better defender than Heading. You have a penchant of muddling the discussion and skirting the topic instead of defending your claims with pertinent details/facts. Walang connect yun pagiging coach ni Tim sa defensive abilities ni Pogoy at Heading. Delulu asf.

P.S
Use of Google dictionary is for free. Pa- bandwagon bandwagon ka pa diyan eh hindi mo naman alam ibig sabihin at kung saan thought o sentence dapat gamitin ang noun na yun.
(Trans: Do yourself a favor and try hard to educate yourself. Will work wonders for you in the future. Para hindi ka lagi nasasabihan na bobo, brad. Af-waan, sadik!)

Laki ng problema mo boss!!!! If CTC wants Pogoy then how are you will disagree? Are you better than him? Hanap ka kausap mo, I don't want arguing with non sense forumers like you.... It doesn't matter who are there in the line up... Guys like Abando, Baltazar and Bolick are also not there... Not all coaches are thinking like what you want to be in the line up.... Sige Magaling na Heading mo... Sabi mo yan eh!!!!! Nang aasar kalang even it's non sense... Even Pogoy will do good, You still not like it because you are certified Hater... Pogoy is better especially in life than you are...

Speaking of heading

Sus!!! We saw this movie already... We already saw this before with Baltazar... CTC said he will pick Baltazar next time but it didn't happened... Sorry bro (Heading)... CTC doesn't want prioritize you...

I just hope that with the way Gilas struggled in its 3-pt shooting in that exhibition match against the Taiwan Mustangs, coach Tim Cone realizes the need for natural shooter a player like Jordan Heading. Also, I hope coach Tim realizes how vulnerable our offense is with Newsome & CJ Perez playing together as both players having suspect 3-pt shooting. We really need a very good 3-pt. shooter playing either at the 1 or 2 position.

Jordan Heading explains why he had to say no to Gilas call-up

'I did everything that I can do to make it work'

by SNOW BADUA

JORDAN Heading might be on a return trip to the Gilas Pilipinas pool.

In a chat with SPIN.ph, the Fil-Australian said he is excited to sit down and talk to Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone when the latter returns from the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia.

Heading confirmed he was contacted by Cone on the possibility of taking the place of the injured Scottie Thompson in the Latvia-bound Gilas team. But he explained that personal matters kept him from taking the opportunity.

“Coach Tim called me last Monday or something like that, it’s like the week that they’re gonna go into the Inspire [Sports Academy] camp ... about the possibility of me coming into this camp, but unfortunately, I couldn’t make it work,” said Heading.

“My wife and I have been trying to get pregnant for two years, we’ve had some problems there. We’re working with a fertility specialist here in Adelaide. He (Cone) called me kinda last minute and we had one last cycle (with the doctor) before I was gonna come to Manila for Strong Group,” he said.

The sharp-shooter played for Gilas during the time of coach Tab Baldwin and was part of the pool that Chot Reyes formed for the last World Cup. But their paths grew apart after Heading went to play in Taiwan and later in the Japan B.League.

Years later, Heading said he is looking forward to donning the national colors again.

“I did everything that I can do to make it work, I tried to work around that. But unfortunately we’re already halfway through and into a cycle that we couldn’t make any changes [in the treatment]. That’s about my family. It’s the biggest thing right now. If it was something else, I could have dropped it,” he said.

That opportunity now behins him, Heading bared that he is now excited to meet with Cone and is optimistic that he will finally get the shot at representing the country anew.

“I tried whatever I could do to make it work for this window (for me to play for Gilas). But unfortunately, it was just too late. Coach Tim, he wants to have coffee with me when he gets back from Latvia,” said the 28-year old gunner.

“Hopefully, we can figure out something then and hopefully I would be added to the pool. We’ll see,” he said.

Statements to the contrary with what our resident analyst Robert Megamind was claiming.

I hope I am wrong but the tall line up of Gilas vs Mustang might not be ideal. I remember how TC did the same with 1998 AG were we prioritize height to match up with the height of China but loss to the quickness and outside shooting of Korea big time.

Our we going with the same principal even though Latvia and Georgia are more similar to Korea skillset. Rather prioritize speed and shut creation like Japan.

Starting 5 should be

PG - Newsome
SG - Ramos
SF - Brownlee
PF - Tamayo
C- Kai

Height wise nod bad, they have also some quickness (except Kai), But that is the best option for now... Tamayo is good match up against Latvia and Georgia... Don't ever try doing JMF - Kai pairing... That will be a disaster in a making... Newsome should limit Zagars and Thomasson (Georgia NP) effectiveness on the floor... Tamayo should give more playing time here since he's the only forward that can match up against Latvia and Georgia's versatile forwards

1 AM Manila time (8 pm in Istanbul)... I think Turkey will only parade their team B... No NBAers such as Sengun and Osman there, since Turkey just only doing this for future preparations, They are not qualified for OQT...
