People we should learn by now that being a member of any national or Gilas team has always been by INVITATION. The coach has always the final say who he wants in the pool/team and it is usually a player who is familiar and fits the system. Other consideration is player availability.
The selection process has never been democratic. This also goes for other national teams and other sports.
The federation may also have a say in the formation of the team. Case in point in the latest controversy in Women’s USA basketball team for the Paris Olympics where rookie sensation Caitlin Clark was left out. The most sentiments being said that Clark has to earn and prove herself first in the WNBA. Easily Clark is the hottest commodity right now in the WNBA because of her achievements in college. Clark’s professional debut was the most watched WNBA game since 2001.
