Pogoy is one example that sure he's playing good in PBA doesnt mean it warrants a Gilas call up and expect the same performance. We've seen countless times on pogoy. People don't learn on suggesting players.. :( and now people suggesting stockton?

Why not try Justin Gutang or Dalph Panopio? Do they really think that they can find our better players only in the PBA?

What's wrong with suggesting Stockton as Gilas prospect? Yes I know there's no guarantee he will carryover his good PBA game to the FIBA level, but there's also no guarantee that he will suck in the FIBA game either. That is why he needs to be tested in the FIBA level. There's absolutely no way of telling until we see him play for Gilas.

Take the case of Calvin Abueva, prior to his stint with Gilas in 2015, who among us here at IBN had predicted that Abueva is going to do very well with Gilas in 2015? Maybe only a very few, or maybe none at all. But Abueva proved to be a workhorse for Gilas & was among the best players of Gilas in 2015.

Of course I'm aware that there are lots of PBA players who are/were impressive in the PBA but couldnt carryover such performsnces in the FIBA game. But we can never gauge a certain player's potential in the national team unless that player gets tested in actual FIBA game.

The thing is, a player who is among the PBA',s superstar or star will have a better chance at playing well in FIBA than an averaged PBA player.

Nice. When he can shoot, great. But when he can't, he's a two-way liability. Gets blown by on defense, gets lost on rotations. Any other clear alternatives?

I'd say he'd be an end-of-bench guy, but we have three players who can play 2, and two players who can play 1 (both of whom are natural 2's).

One of CTC's wishlist since 2019 SEAG... CTC loves Pogoy... Unfortunately in the past, Pogoy is always not available due to injuries...

Don't expect CTC will pick players outside PBA aside from Kai, AJ, Tamaya and Ramos... He's not familiar players who are not playing in the PBA... Another one is the politics... So don't expect the likes of Baltazar, Heading, RJ, etc....

Thing is, I already said it. He has a history of being unreliable in international competition. 26.4% from 3 in FIBA, and a defensive liability. Poor laterals, sometimes late in rotations.

Maybe a locker room presence, but on the court, we're better off having someone else.

Rather suggest players who you think will fit to fiba style. We saw how berto played well in fiba games.. they're lots of players better than stockton to suggest with..

Surely he knows abando, kiefer, heading..

And if defense is the argument against Kiefer and Heading, CJ, who got cooked by Newsome and Banchero, is not a good man-to-man defender, and is only good in passing lanes, is in the pool. Mason, a defensive liability, is in the pool. Pogoy, a defensive liability in FIBA, is in the pool. June Mar, a defensive liability in FIBA, is in the pool.

Mason and June Mar address bigman issues, though.

SMC/MPIC probably dont want to pay the insurance premiums of our ofw players (though heading is a FA right?)

heading currently plays here in nbl 1 with west adelaide bearcats

Like who?
Have you seen Stockton's games in the 2023-2024 Philippine Cup? That was a significantly improved Alec Stockton.

Do U think Stockton's game doesn't fit the FIBA style of game? I wonder why? The guy has a reliable 3-pt shot, better than that of either CJ Perez or Chris Newsome or Iskati Thompson, has good slashing, is a good finisher off the break& has a deadly pull-up jumper from mid-range. Stockton can also play defense. And the clincher is, he plays point guard in his PBA team.

Aren't most of us here been clamoring for a good size point guard in the national team? Well, Stockton is 6-foot-2 who can play that role.

Of course he has to tested in the higher level. Baka nga kasi sa PBA lang sya magaling.

With Scottie out, can we still realistically add new guys?

I don’t trust CJ playing point.

Newsome is good but can’t expect him to play 40 minutes in two games.

Dwight playing point didn’t work out last time either.

I just don't see TC adding Stockton. He's a bit stubborn. Maybe he'll add a Ginebra guard is more realistic IMO. And unless something really disastrous happens he won't change his ways.

The last minute addition that makes the most sense is Mav but maybe Tim Cone isn't a fan. I don't think Ginebra has won anything with Mav.

Well, most probably not now. But I hope somewhere along the way to the 2027 FIBA World Cup coach Tim Cone would consider other prospects especially since Gilas is thin at the 1 & 2 positions. Of course we also have to remember that some of the current Gilas members aren't getting any younger like Chris Newsome & Junemar Fajardo who I think are now both 34 yrs old. Maybe after the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, both Newsome & Fajardo would retire from national team service.

The thing is, even CJ Perez & Iskati Thompson aren't that young anymore. They're both 30 yrs old now.

It's time that coach Tim & the SBP set their sights on younger guards like Dalph Panopio, Alec Stockton, Aaron Black, Migs Oczon, Clint Escamis, etc. as possible replacements for those ageing guards of the current Gilas pool.
