Latvia won, but Bertans gut cut by Charlotte..

Brazil might win the their match vs Latvia.. still the 2 favorites advance... Good run also by Cameroon despite no NBA players came to play for them such as Embiid and Siakam... They are the best performing team out of African region... Take note, they came off from Pre OQT qualifiers beating the likes of Nigeria, Tunisia and Senegal....

This is the best ever performance of Asian teams in OQT history... No Asian teams since 2000 (when OQT was implemented) reach 2nd round.. And both teams win atleast a game... Better performance than NZL... I dunno now the NZL guy here at forum have to say now? Both Philippines and Lebanon performed better than them...

Put Gilas or Lebanon in NZL's group both might not advance in the semis too, i am not discounting what Gilas achieved but context is important before we belittle other teams, it was Gilas best performance in a non-asian tournament, better than 2014 and 2023 world cup, and 2015 OQT, idk if i need to compare the 2021 OQT as the team was composed of college players as like i said context matters

Maybe in Lebanon group is possible but not in our group... Slovenia is weaker right now because their 2017 EuroBasket champion core are gone except of course Luka, Current Latvia is better than current Slovenia... Meanwhile Croatia and Georgia are almost same level... Although NZL won a game too (but I will not count him as Asian)...

Question: If the following are present do we qualify for Paris? Why? Why not?

Scottie Thompson
Rhenz Abando - replacing Oftana
Bobby Ray Parks Jr. - replacing KQ
Jordan Heading - replacing Tamayo
Jamie Malonzo -replacing Amos
AJ Edu - replacing Japeth

add these 6 to the OQT core of

Kai Sotto
Justin Brownlee
Junemar Fajardo
CJ Perez
Chris Newsome
Dwight Ramos

all healthy.

I think this would've been it, it just wasn't our time.

what i am saying is put us or Lebanon with Croatia and Slovenia both might not get out of the first round, Croatia's frontline will be too much for us Saric and Zubac will be a hard match up for Kai and Junemar, and they also have Hezonja and another 7 footer and a couple of 6'9 players, against Slovenia i don't how we will handle an arguably top 2 or 3 best player in the world, Luka's supporting cast might not be as strong as before but we will still have a hard time against them,

Kai benching and game time decsion not to let him play is possible one of the worse decision they ever made. And Kai is not yet brave. He has to toughen up. Then he is not NBA ready. Anyway, congratulations still to our team.

MRI,checkups and XRAYs says he's ok,probably some bruising, its probably a case of self preservation, coaching staff probably asked him if he's up to the task, man if he's not limping he should just walk it out and play.

This loss won't take away what we managed to achieve. Remember CTC mentioned Gilas already had tickets home for yesterday. We played with just 9 men in this final game.

Now we no longer can settle for the excuse "mas magaling talaga sila eh." We showed we could hang with the best. Any loss Gilas has from now on is our own fault. Tab was right when he said we were a top 15 team.

If you're the other team, you will now paint a target on Gilas and watch how CTC coach Ginebra, take them seriously and just match them offens per offens til lights out.

I don't get the people blaming Japeth. Dude might be hot or cold for us but at least he's always ready to play unless some dudes. And he's old what are they expecting him to do? We should have been grooming someone to replace him and JF a long time ago. Those guys should have been the one playing in this tournament. Make no mistake this is Kai's team now despite Junemar's incredible showing.

A couple of tweaks could have made a difference:

AJ Edu - replacing Mason
Jamie Malonzo - for Oftana

Note: A healthy Kai Sotto

I will not replace Tamayo. Last night, Tamayo was not afraid of Brazil's physicality and athleticism. He made a couple of baskets and rebounds. He was more effective than Japeth, who was having a great brainfarts against Brazil. We need that bravery, tbh.

We need Kouame, Mike Philips, LeBron Lopez and Brandon Bates against Brazilian bigs to counter the latter's athleticism and physicality. I also agree that we need a guy like Ray Parks as our designated shooter.

Anyway, come to think of it, Gilas was the closest Asian team to take down the Brazilians. China, Iran and Lebanon tried but they were all beaten black and blue. That never happened to Gilas last night. So still hats off. Brazil is a top-tier Latin American team. It's always a pleasure to play against them.

This why Mason transferred to La Salle, so he does not have to experience the same traumatic event

Lebanon hanging tough against Bahamas even without Arakji.

With the resurgence of Korea and maybe China, our path is not going to get any easier.

It has never been expected to be easy. China may have struggled in FIBA & international basketball the last few years, but you bet the Chinese would try very hard to bounce back. There's just too much pride in the hearts of the Chinese being the most dominant country in Asian basketball many years back.

The same can also be expected from South Korea who have also struggled in the last few years. Babawi din ang mga Koreano na yan. We better be ready.

As we can see, China played friendlies with Australia. To think that China isnt going to the Olympics. It is obviously preparing for next year's FIBA Asia Cup & even the 2027 FIBA World Cup. And U bet China is going to continue playing friendlies & perhaps some pocket tournaments up to August.

Definitely not Tamayo,he's a good combo forward and he plays hard and physical, they could start with guards, like Heading over Perez, gotta have consistent bombing power,Bolick if Scottie is still hurt or coaching consensus that at the big dance level skill wise not up to it.Junmar is aging, gotta get that exception for AK soon, with AJ he gotta have a backup from Balti,Malonzo or Navarro, definitely Lopez over Oftana,Amos ineffective but more than likely CTC is gonna give him another chance in November.

Cone has shown that some six players are good for top 20 global battles. This was the first time i have seen that. The nightmares of all those puny midget national teams -- so loved by very foolish pinoy fans -- from the 1960s onwards are now gone. I had seen 5'4 abarrientos and 5'9 power forward florencio trying their wild scoring stunts against international teams.

I wont even mind not watching nt games anymore, because it can only get better from here on. There are no more eyesore teams like the seyer coached ones.

The team can be redesigned to battle either top 20 or top 10, depending on the budget. The top ten target, for instance, will require at least two highly qualified nba players. This is still much better than before, where easily up to ten local players were unsuitable for big fiba wars. The five to seven players on the national team bench must be as highly capable and healthy as the first five "stars".

The top 20 battles will require the addition/ replacement of no more than 6 of the present playing crew. This first five quality had never been seen.

But naturalization exemptions must be aggressively completed by the lazy and incompetent sbp. This organization is hardly better than the chinese bap it replaced. The pba, at the very least, must allow all naturalized players in. It is the height of extreme stupidity and employment discrimination to allow filfors with zero chances of local exemption to play in the pba, but not naturalized players. Douthit and kouame are filipinos, so they must be allowed to play in the pba. How can they be less qualified than taulava, stanhardinger or the earlier ncc imports to play as pinoys?

Needed players with solid credentials like say, qmb, hepa and m philips must also get exemptions as locals. . In fact, naturalization passport discrimination in the asian federation, which say, are not required in other fiba federations or olympics can be successfully challenged.

As expected, so many are panicking again calling for this and that, blaming this and that.

Big picture...rewind to that time when preparation games hasn't even began. Was anyone expecting us to compete and almost win against Poland and Turkey? Win against Latvia? Eliminate Georgia? Before all of this, everyone was just hoping for us not to get blown out in all of those games.

Now that the team over-achieved and made expectations high again, people are micro-analyzing everything again.

Cone and the team proved that we can compete at this level...and that's all we can hope for, compete meaning we give ourselves a chance of winning. And we did in each and every game.

I like the system, the coach, the team identity and the direction. Obviously, we're missing guys who can help. But big picture, trust the process. It's not going to be overnight.

Let also be real. We won 1 game against a great team but to be consistent and able to outright qualify we need to be consistent in winning. We haven't solve our problem with PnR defense and scoring against elite teams. The schedule of FIBA will always make us prepare less time for competition.

source? I think his BLeague contracts are always with an NBA clause (if an NBA team signs him he's out, he's allowed to play in the Summer league even if he's still under Bleague contract ), and now that FIBA OQT's done essentially any Summer League team can get him to take a closer look before they sign him for pre-season camp

I just saw on one sports page last week.. he and his camp says that they will focus more on Gilas...

I'm not sure I understand what you want to say. Are you saying we're on the right track or no?
