Cohesion is kind of a cop out. It sounds more like an excuse because there's no money. But they don't want to actually say it.

They don't need the whole team to remain the same for cohesion. They just need to keep enough so that any new people can be plugged in and have the support of many that already know the system.

I always figured this was the case, clearly I imagine they know the problems but they can’t do anything about it. I honestly respect the coach for being able to be a scapegoat and take the heat for the teams failings when it’s just symptom of the real problem

Sir Mets,
cc: Sir Jams

that is why I highly doubt the likes of Jalen Green, Dylan Haroer, JJ Mandaquit, Kamaka Hepa and that Fil-Can kid( I forgot the name)

who all played for Team USA and Team Canada U teams.

will be selected in the Senior Team moving forward because of so many big fish in that particular category (6'2 to 6'6 level)

unless they had that Jayson Tatum, MJ, Ant-Man, Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson or Tyrese Haliburton level.

even Leila Phelia who recently played for Womens Team last year(?)

if she would be called for another tour of duty.

excluding Jalen Green and Leila Phelia who's in their mid-20's

the rest had a strong chance to be part beyond the 2028 cycle.

unless they've already call it quit as far as playing for any national teams are concern

and concentrate more on their respective D1 schools and club teams respectively.

I believe the situation of Christian Stanhardinger could be similar to that of JJ Mandaquit and Kamaka Hepa. C-Stan played for Germany's youth team, but FIBA cleared him to play for Gilas back in 2017, despite it being clearly stated that he did not obtain his Philippine passport before the age of 16, which made him ineligible to be considered a local.

I wonder if JJ Mandaquit and Kamaka Hepa will be considered locals since they obtained their passports before the age of 16, or if they will also take the slot of a naturalized player because they already played for the USA.

Sir Lemon,

I've already posted this before.

there's a provision about changing of allegiance before turning in age 23

obtaining passport before turning 16 well, "may laban tayo"

it all depends now to kids, it's parents and both NSA's.

FIBA Internal Regulation – Book 3(rev. 26 March 22)
Chapter 1: Eligibility, National Status and Availability of Players
19 a. A player who has transferred as a young player according to articles 3-74 may not choose to play for the national team of any country other than the country from which the player transferred, until the player has reached the age of twenty-three(23).
b. The Secretary General may, in his sole discretion, partially or entirely lift the restriction of 3.19.a in exceptional circumstances, which may include, without limitation, the following:
ii. The player had two (2) or more nationalities (and was in possession of the relevant passports) at the time of the initial transfer.

Players with Previous Registrations
74. If the young player’s proposed international transfer is linked to basketball, FIBA shall take the following critieria into account when making a decision on the letter of clearance(no administrative fee will be charged):
e. The young player, the young player’s parents, the new club and the new National Member Federation shall declare in writing that (i) they have read and understood the conditions of Article 3-19 and that (ii) until the player’s twenty third (23[SUP]rd[/SUP]) birthday, the player shall make himself or herself available for the national team of the country from which the player transferred, unless otherwise decided by the Secretary General as per article 3-19 and if necessary, for the preparation time as well as for the training camps provided that they do not interfere with school activities

If JJ Mangaquit & Kamaka Hepa obtained Philippine passport before their respective 16th birthdays, they will be considered legit local Filipinos players by FIBA. This despite Mandaquit already played for the US national youth team/s. Mandaquit will just need clearance from USA Basketball, which is the national basketball federation of the US, for him to play for the Philippine senior team as a local player.

The thing is, FIBA has even become more lenient in its rules as of late. Dati kasi a player gets to play for only 1 national team in the senior level. But now there are players who were allowed by FIBA to play for another national team in the senior level despite already playing for a national team in the senior level. The prime example is former NBA player Ben Gordon who both represented USA & Great Britain national teams in the senior level. Gordon was considered as a local player for both USA & Great Britain national teams.

Guys, is it really confirmed that Kamaka Hepa is a Philippine passport holder prior to his 16th b-day?
I would really be excited to hear that Hepa is FIBA eligible to play for Gilas as a local.

Yeah, I think FIBA is more lenient towards developing countries such as the Bahamas (Eric Gordon), Chinese Taipei (where their former naturalized player became local), Indonesia (Jawato), South Sudan? (not sure), and Great Britain, as you mentioned.

Also I just saw that Ben Gordon played for US in the Pan-American games, was that a FIBA-handled tournament?

Having JJ Mandaquit and Kamaka Hepa with Gilas would make us a powerhouse country, a lot stronger. I think it would be unfair to other countries, especially in the Asia region. To even rub salt into the wound for other countries, they would play as locals.

Although we were also a powerhouse back in 2017, C-Stan was not a legitimate standout who played in the US. Even if he was, he still got a slot as a naturalized player, which minimized Gilas' firepower since they could have fielded Andray Blatche had C-Stan been eligible as a local.

I do hope SMC could use their power that is abused in PBA though.

jayden jones was the worst fil-foreigner from the 2022 u16 team unfortunately..prolly 2nd worst overall next to santi romero :/

Well, that was 2 years ago so maybe Jayden may have improved significantly since then. Also we have to take note that Jayden Jones was among the youngest player in that team as he was 16 yrs old at that time while most of his teammates were already 17 yrs old.

Jayden was the leading scorer of Fil-Am Nation B in Manila Live 2024 with 22ppg. He was even included in the NBTC all star so he might have been improved.

Still an an upgrade from having Justin Hunter who always seemed lost.

Classes in the US have already started. Hunter may have been unavailable. While Jones, since has been recruited by FEU, is already here in the Philippines.

His outside shot has gotten noticeably better.

Akatsuki U18, Final 14 Lineup.

Good thing their tallest is only 6'6, I did not check it yet but I think most of their players were also in the U16 2023 with an average of 17.2 yrs old, whom the Kiefier-led Gilas youth beat.

The height conversion is wrong. This is not a typical bansot team like those coach seyer uses.195cm is 6'5, 198 is 6'6, 204 is 6'8, and 197 is 6'6 too.

So, where's the final "chemistry ballers" pinoy lineup??? No great explosive players, so the seyer team very likely will chemically implode again.

So based on the recently ended training camp, lineup will be much likely:

1. Gemao
2. Medina
3. Burgos
4. Lorenzo
5. Esteban
6. Cabonilla
7. Ludovice
8. Manding
9. Esperanza
10. Jayden Jones
11. Kurl Figueroa
12. Gabriel Nepacena

I don't really know who are the last 2 players lol. Don't know what their position or height.

I just saw them tagged with coach Rob's post about the training camp.

Gone are Castillejos, Hunter, Santos? not sure.

This is not the official lineup, just the players who attended the training camp.

But it looks like an upgrade from the SEABA lineup though, the non-contributor / benchwarmer guys were replaced.
