2 slots for SEABA --Phils and Indonesia going to FIBA Asia Cup u18 amman Jordan

yes. better than castillejos.. mythical team member and defensive team member in ncaa juniors..

Coach Josh should have considered both Daep & Borja in the team/pool despite them having to report for practice late. What is a 2-week late in practice when the U-18 team/pool will have about 3 months of training? Remember that the real tournament is the 2024 FIBA Asia U-18 Championship which wud be held early September. This SEABA U-18 tournament, which serves as a qualifier to the 2024 Asia U-18 Championship, is a tournament where we are almost sure of qualifying. The Asia U-18 is the real war.

I've always believed that in youth tournaments, team composition is more important than cohesion/chemistry. Don't get me wrong, this is not to say that team cohesion/chemistry isn't that important in youth tournaments. What I'm implying is that kahit mag training or mag prepare pa ang team for 10 solid months, pag mahina ang mga materyales nyan, matatalo yan ng team na may magandang materyales kahit nag training lang yan ng 2 months.

Take for instance our U-17 team that sucked in the recent FIBA World U-17 tournament. Kahit pinag training mo ng 1 taon ang team na yun, if you play that team against Lithuanian or a Spain or a Serbian U-17 team which only trained for 2 months, I don't think our RP U-17 will ever have any chance of beating any of those European powerhouse teams.

Team composition is more important because we want to see who among these kids have a chance of making the seniors. It should be a pathway to playing for the senior NT.

The Perpetual boys chose to concentrate on their off-season stints. They have a team for the junior mpbl/sinag liga. If I have to guess these were orchestrated orders. The two are hot commodities after the NCAA Jrs so I understand the concern of their mother school/handlers.

By all means, we need Lebron Daep if we want to have a chance to qualify for the U19 WC. He'll most definitely be our starting PF/C if he's in the roster. Imo, I would cut Castillejos, Hunter and Santos for Daep, Alas and Perez/Borja. I would even include Sanderson in the roster for developmental purposes.

The problem is most of these "promising" tallballers are easily discouraged by their own stupid skills and lack the tenacity to get help from ballers and trainers who can help them in building an attitude for personal excellence. A lot of smallballers have vicious, selfish attitudes and do not want tallballers to look superior to them. A pinoy tallballer's journey towards excellence therefore will always be a lonely one, and somebody has to show him how to do it.

Pinoys in general are fairly meek and unassertive, it has nothing to do with height. A perfect example of meek and unassertive is the U17 team in the world cup or literally the aura of any chot reyes teams going against opponents outside of Asia. Tab and Cone has shown that you can negate it in some ways without hiring 5 imports or sending every player overseas, with the handicap of being a Filipino basketball player fully considered.

Many people find it strange that Filipino fans can easily scapegoat the coach in bad performances but it's not really strange in a pinoy pov. As a culture we lack proper leaders(this is way beyond basketball) and when we do get good leaders, we usually try our best to help them with their vision. We aren't Japan where leadership, organization and management is organically high quality so you can nitpick on the individual workers in the system.

We have to get through the Chots and the Al Panlilios before we even think about scrutinizing Dwight Ramos's point guard skills(who's gonna get played as a stretch 4 anyways, guarding Karl Anthony Towns 1 on 1). The whole point is that the player problem is moot, it's a schrodinger's cat, there isn't a real leader in the youth level for us to even have a decent enough sample size to analyse these players we're talking about.

So Perpetual high school team might have prohibited Borja & Daep from joining Batang Gilas U-18 team for the fear of being pirated by other schools? This is a sad reality in our local high school & collegiate basketball leagues.

Guys, is Lebron Jhames Daep better than Castillejos? It's unfortunate that Daep failed to attend the early tryouts of Batang Gilas U-18 pool becoz his high school team was playing in the finals of the NCAA high school tournament at that time. Coach Josh should have given Daep & Daep's high school teammate Arex Borja some consideration to catch up with the training. What if na late sila ng 2 weeks sa training? It's not like Batang Gilas only had a 1 month training. The team/pool had a lengthy training/preparation period.

I think both Daep & Borja are promising.

Daep would been the 3rd to 4th best player next to Andy, Cabonillas, and maybe Ludovice.

The first and last shot of Indonesia doesn't count at all. The refs are blind or something.

Gemao hasn't gotten a single minute of rest. His ankle hasn't affected him much, but still.

The knee brace and knee tapes worry me. He’s just 17 right? Maybe his working his knees too much?

After this U18 season (heck, even after this SEABA and before the Asia Cup), hopefully 6'4" Esteban and 6'5" Burgos work on perimeter skills, lateral movement, and fighting picks. They have the motor and mobility. I saw Esteban intercept a pass.

6'5" Cabonilas is trying to keep up on defense and is mobile and long, but sometimes allows blow-bys and gives shooters space. He does have dribble-drives and made a couple shots. Hope he works on perimeter defense.

Medina’s hot from3 and even a dribble pull up. He grew up in Brunei?

Guy's 6'3", long, has shooting, and can handle and drive. Wow.

This will be one to look out for. Hope he can be a combo guard in the future.

What’s Lorenzos height? 6’5? Seems to have a game that helps you win at SEABA but might not be that effective at Asia level.

Yup. The guy has seniors combo guard or even PG potential.

If he becomes a combo guard (hopefully he does become one), maybe Cone could consider him. Has length and a good motor on defense.

Gemao is just awesome. I think in the Asia U-18 tournament he will be needing a stronger supporting cast. Ibang level na pag sa Asia U-18 tournament. Hope Sanderson will play in that tournament. Hope Daep & Borja will be there too.

Great that Gemao can play as point guard.

Yeah, we will need bigs of the size of Daep and Borja. Only 6'5" Lorenzo can take the beating inside against bigs. I don't think 6'4" Esteban and 6'5" Burgos can take that, too thin and weak.
